An Italian commission has claimed that Internazionale would not have been allowed to compete in the 2005/2006 Serie A campaign had crucial financial information been available. Inter were awarded the 05/06 title after Juventus were stripped of their triumph due to a match-fixing conviction, and Covisoc, the body which monitors football's finances in Italy, has now stated that the Nerazzurri's participation in the league should have been in doubt. Inter president Massimo Moratti and Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani are currently being investigated after allegations that they inflated transfer fees between the years of 2003 and 2005 in an attempt to secure fictitious capital gains. Covisoc has now claimed that Inter would have been too financially unstable to compete in Serie A if all the necessary information had been made available at the time. "Financial balance would have been lost if the club had shown the losses connected to the fictitious capital gains and Inter would not have fitted the parameters asked for by Covisoc for registration in the 2005-06 championship," the commission said in a statement. However, the current Serie A champions have moved quickly to respond to the accusations. "FC Internazionale wish to make clear that they have never included fictitious capital gains in their own budgets and that they have already presented the necessary and complete technical documentation," the club said in a statement. If proven to be true, this would be a real blow for Inter's image after repeatedly claiming that this was the 'Scudetto of honesty'. Inter are accused of inflating the players' values, also known as 'plusvalenze', and according to a specialist lawyer, Mattia Grassani, this is a very serious accusation which could even lead to the demotion of Inter to Serie B football. "Financial fraud is a very serious crime, only second in the sports justice to the sporting fraud. "In this case the sanctions for the directors can either be a simple fine up to 5 years suspensions with a proposal of radiation, whereas for the clubs can receive a fine up till demotion. In the code there's also the revocation of the Scudetto, but it's up to the Federal President to decide if there are the extremes." Apart from Inter, also Milan, Reggina and Sampdoria are involved in the investigations with new developments expected in the coming days.
