Title: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on June 29, 2007, 06:11:17 PM I was just having a discussion with a colleague of mine (Arsenal fan) about our club's transfer records and we were both surprised at how small Liverpool and Arsenal's were for top 4 clubs.
Liverpool's largest transfer to date is Djibril Cisse for 14 million followed by Emile Heskey for 11 million (neither was great - both were Houllier buys) Spurs have just signed Bent for 16.5 million - I was wondering how many other clubs outside the "big 4" have spent more in one go than these two clubs... Who are your clubs record transfers? Man Utd: Ferdinand 30 Million Chelsea: Shevchenko 30.8 Liverpool: Cisse 14 Arsenal: Wiltord 13 Spurs: Bent 16.5 Everton: Johnson 8.5 Bolton: Anelka 8 Reading: Greg Halford 2.25 Portsmouth: Sulley Muntari 7 Blackburn: Ferguson 7.5 Villa: Young 9.65 Middlesbrough: Maccarone 8.1 Newcastle: Owen 18 City: Anelka 12 West Ham: Ashton 7.5 Fulham: Marlet 11 Wigan: Heskey 5.5 Sunderland: Flo 6.5 Birmingham: Heskey 6.5 Derby: Robert Earnshaw 3.5 Celtic: Sutton/Hartson/Lennon 6 Rangers: Flo 12 Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: kinboshi on June 29, 2007, 06:20:55 PM Hopefully, £23M (give or take) next week for Fernando Torres.
;D The thing with record transfer fees is inflation. A player who cost £1M ten years ago would have obviously had a greater transfer fee in 2007 - both in terms of inflation and in light of the boom from Sky money for the top clubs. Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: Robert HM on June 29, 2007, 06:23:58 PM Notts County, Tony Agana, £685k
Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: Bazzaboy on June 29, 2007, 06:31:12 PM Tore Andre Flo £12m :o

True but some clubs have still gone close to the records of the big 4. Man City got Anelka for quite a bit didn't they? Shearer and Owen at Newcastle. Leeds for Fowler and Ferdinand? Amazing that Arsenal and Liverpool's record signings are relatively small. WOW Flo cost 12m? Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: kinboshi on June 29, 2007, 07:29:37 PM 20m reyes? According to Wikipedia (which isn't always right obviously): Quote Reyes signed with English club Arsenal FC during the January transfer window of the 2003-04 season. The £9m fee was negotiated with top ups, depending on the success of Arsenal, which could rise to £17m. Wenger did get Henry for £10.5M. Now that was a bargain. Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on June 29, 2007, 07:31:15 PM 20m reyes? Don't think Arsenal paid more than 13 for Reyes in the end coz they won fuck all with him in the side. Wiltord - 14 million is their record I think. Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on June 29, 2007, 07:32:14 PM What did city pay for Anelka?
Who was Leeds' biggest signing? Did Owen go for 18 million to Newcastle? Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: dan on June 29, 2007, 08:01:23 PM 20m reyes? Don't think Arsenal paid more than 13 for Reyes in the end coz they won fuck all with him in the side. Wiltord - 14 million is their record I think. Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: sharpy on June 29, 2007, 09:37:51 PM Portsmouth-Sulley Muntari from Udinese for £7million Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: Rooky9 on June 30, 2007, 03:27:17 PM I dont think Owen was £18m. The most common figure I've seen is £17m. Certainly if there were any appearence related monies in there they wont have been paid!!
Our transfers over £5m are scary: (bold ones possibily laughable) Owen £17m Shearer £15m Martins £10m Luque £9.5m Robert £9.5m Boumsong £8m Viana £8.5m Woodgate £8m Ferguson £8m Asprillia £7.5m (nutter but gifted) Carl Cort £7m Parker £6.5m Sir Leslie £6m Dyer £6m Bellamy £6m Marcelino £5.8 Jenas £5m Millner £5m Duff £5m Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on July 01, 2007, 01:28:17 PM Liverpool's are pretty embarrasing:
Cisse 14 Heskey 11 Alonso 10.5 Diouf 10 Kuyt 9 Collymore 8.5 Hamann 8 Crouch 7 Pennant 6.7 Luis Garcia 6 Cheyrou 6 Bellamy 6 Sissoko 5.6 Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: kinboshi on July 02, 2007, 09:16:15 AM I think Reina was £6.3M as well. But he was a good buy.
Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: Sheriff Fatman on July 02, 2007, 01:15:11 PM £1.5m, twice, for Georgi Hristov and Mike Sheron.
Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on July 02, 2007, 02:41:06 PM I think Reina was £6.3M as well. But he was a good buy. Good shout - was Dudek or Kirkland more than 5? Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: kinboshi on July 02, 2007, 02:44:25 PM I think Reina was £6.3M as well. But he was a good buy. Good shout - was Dudek or Kirkland more than 5? Dudek was just under £5M, and Kirkland was reportedly a little over £6M. Shame he kept on breaking. Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: dan on July 02, 2007, 06:39:51 PM Liverpool's are pretty embarrasing: Cisse 14 Heskey 11 Alonso 10.5 Diouf 10 Kuyt 9 Collymore 8.5 Hamann 8 Crouch 7 Pennant 6.7 Luis Garcia 6 Cheyrou 6 Bellamy 6 Sissoko 5.6 Added another couple in bold as you seem to forgotton them Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: Longines on July 02, 2007, 07:02:55 PM Reading: Greg Halford 2.25 Any other team managed to sell their record signing within five months after he's played two games? :o For a 33% profit ;) Title: Re: Transfer record signing Post by: The Baron on July 02, 2007, 07:11:39 PM Liverpool's are pretty embarrasing: Cisse 14 Heskey 11 Alonso 10.5 Diouf 10 Kuyt 9 Collymore 8.5 Hamann 8 Crouch 7 Pennant 6.7 Luis Garcia 6 Cheyrou 6 Bellamy 6 Sissoko 5.6 Added another couple in bold as you seem to forgotton them He scored 1 in every 3 games and will be sold on for a profit. I dont really see how it's a bad signing. If we sold him for 2 million it'd be a bad signing. |
