Title: Sleep or poker? Post by: madasahatstand on July 01, 2007, 05:52:00 PM I work full time and play a lot of poker during the week and at weekends. Over the last while I've been staying up to when i would normally get out of bed on the weekends. Im wondering if any other people have this rountine and wonder how you cope with it? I think the advice im looking for has more to do with sleep management as I like to stay up late like this. Its great fun:) Trouble is, I need to get everything done during the week I would have normally done at the weekend. Any suggestions?

Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on July 01, 2007, 05:55:45 PM When i used to work and play poker i would often go through the night - then get up and into work about an hour early and sleep in a toilet cubicle. Used to do this on the lunch break too! Remember to set your phone alarm mind you! And try not to snore!

Post by: AlexMartin on July 01, 2007, 06:04:06 PM It doesnt work very well and results in poor performance on the tables and at work. Get yourself a schedule and stick to it. If you really cant, you are probably a degenerate like most of us on here and you should work out how to make enough £ to go full-time.

I could have sworn I logged out of the blonde cardroom last night before I went to bed, but when I got up this morning it was still running and I had more money in there than I remembered having at bed time. I may have found the answer - playing (and winning) during my sleep!
Title: Re: Sleep or poker? Post by: Sark79 on July 01, 2007, 06:40:56 PM I would take a night or two off each week mad to get some sleep. Go to bed early and read a book. I recommend 'Born on a blue day' by Daniel Tammet. I got this out of the library yesterday afternoon and read it last night. It is a horrible feeling going to work tired each day, your brain is tired as well for the whole day.
I remember a post by snoopy once where he commented on playing at night and then working during the day tired. When I am tired I get a headache. Did you know that people who suffer from headaches are less likely to get Alzheimer's disease. get some sleep Title: Re: Sleep or poker? Post by: Rookie (Rodney) on July 01, 2007, 06:44:01 PM The time you spend reading a book you could be playing poker!!!

Post by: madasahatstand on July 01, 2007, 06:52:46 PM The time you spend reading a book you could be playing poker!!! my thoughts exactly!!!!!! Maybe a curfew of say 10.30pm during the week is called for. And I should stick to it!!!! thats a goal for next week. Ill go for 11pm and see how it goes from there. Title: Re: Sleep or poker? Post by: OatFedGoat on July 01, 2007, 06:54:36 PM Personally I know I play alot worse when tired and call when I know I should really be folding.
Until a few months ago I was burning the candle at both ends and it was reducing my poker winnings but strangely despite feeling shattered, I have had a bonus and pay rise are work! I know play less poker and if a tourney finishes around midnight I might play a sit n go but will not now start another tourney which may mean just getting 2-3 hours kip if I go deep. I guess if lack of sleep doesnt affect your play or work then good luck to you, I know I cant do it! Title: Re: Sleep or poker? Used to do this on the lunch break too! Remember to set your phone alarm mind you! And try not to snore! I have a mate that used to do similar sort of things, he obviously kipped in the loo from time to time, but he often went to the stationary cupboad for a kip but hold various items in his hand incase he was interupted! I play late at night but am fortunate enough to have a job where I can turn up when I like if getting up early is too much for me that day. Weekends aren't so good for me as I get up early with our daughter, but I still play a bit. I play more during the week though so to spend some time at least with the family at the weekend.
