Title: Swapping Percentages
Post by: CrestOfaWave on July 04, 2007, 12:18:31 AM
I would be interested to hear what is the best way to swap a percentage of your tournament stake with another player and what is way to do it without getting into a later dispute.

Option 1 - pre start of Tournament.
Swap 10% of potential winnings with a fellow entrant.

Option 2 - mid stacked after day 2 but still away from money.
Swapping 10% with another player on similar stack as potential hedge.

Any access to contracts or way these are written up would be appreciated.

Thanks Greg

If you feel as though you need to draw up a contract with someone then I wouldn't do the swap.

Hi Andrew - valid point. Guess this is where judgement comes in to play. Do most poker players honour these verbal commitments then as you often here about 10% savers etc but I am sure disputes arise from time to time so a simple written contract seems a sensible thing to do - particularly in a big tournament.

i never swap a % of myself

but if you were to do so make sure its with someone you know well and trust

some players have been known to swap/sell more than 100% of themselves

and some player have a dozen or more people waiting on the rail  to pay off debts too before you get to see your share

contract or no contract

I used to swap 10% with an ex of mine and he did better out of it than I did - you have to be prepared to always be shelling out and not receiving. Ask M3boy!

I always make a point of asking Tighty if we had 10% once I've been knocked out and that automatically bokks him and he goes home early!

I dont see many problems with %'s unless you're Jamie Gold. What happened about that anyway?

Ditto.

It's a simple transaction. 10% of any payout is not complicated enough to warrant a contract. If I felt I might need a contract then there's no way I'm doing the deal.

I think he had to give half to the other guy.

At the moment he is spewing his half all over the cash games at the Venetian.

I've been playing nearly 20 years now (Christ I'm getting old). I've only once had a problem with % swapping.

Basically you should only swap with someone you like and trust.

I think if I offered to swap a % with someone and then produced a contract for them to sign they would either roll around laughing or be highly offended.

If there's any doubt, just don't do it.

thanks Camel - will take on board the advise. (Wow 20 years playing - only have 18.5 years to catch up)

If I get to Day 4 next week will think about doing this as a hedge.

GL next week.

if your talking about the M.E, if i t was me i would try find a 10% before, not only is the money lucrative but if you get knocked out then you have someone to root for, better still in this comp i would get a team of three together and have three 5%'s  that way you have a better shot of getting some good dough if you get busted.

That's a very good idea. I have won my seat and will pay in my entry this Saturday Night for a Sunday or Monday starting day.
If we can get 4 blondes playing (including me) in the Main Event to do a 5% saver it will make the live updates even more intersting if suckedout
on before the money.

pm me if interested.
