Title: FOOTBALL SONGS Post by: booder on July 04, 2007, 08:32:44 PM The new season will soon be upon us and grounds will reverberate to the massed choirs of fans singing their songs. Almost all groups of fans have their own unique anthems associated with their club. Although these add atmosphere to the game , the lyrics don't always come across clearly.
Please post any anthems that are unique to your club. ( PLEASE No abusive or inflammatory ones ) I will start off with a Liverpool classic that has been sung since the 60's... POOR SCOUSER TOMMY I'll tell you a story of a poor boy Who was sent far away from his home To fight for his king and his country And also the old folks back home So they put him in the Highland division Sent him off to a far foreign land Where the flies swarm around in their thousands And there's nothing to see but the sand Well the battle started next morning Under the Arabian sun I remember the poor Scouser Tommy Who was shot by an old Nazi gun As he lay on the battle field dying (dying dying) With the blood rushing out of his head (of his head) As he lay on the battle field dying (dying dying) These were the last words he said... Oh... I am a Liverpudlian I come from the Spion Kop I like to sing, I like to shout I go there quite a lot (every week) We are the team who plays in red A team that we all know A team that we call Liverpool And to glory we will go We've won the League We've won the Cup We've been to Europe too We played the Toffees for a laugh And we left them feeling blue Title: Re: FOOTBALL SONGS Post by: GlasgowBandit on July 04, 2007, 08:37:01 PM Willie Maley was his name
he brought some great names to the game when he was the boss at Celtic Park he taught them how to play football he made the greatest of them all Gallacher and Quinn have left their mark. (chorus) And they gave us James McGrory and Paul McStay (And you know Who) they gave us Johnstone, Tully, Murdoch, Auld and Hay and most of the football greats have past through Parkheads gates for to play football the Glasgow Celtic way. In 38 there was a show Glasgow was the place to go a model of the tower was footballs prize England sent 4 of the best they didn't meet with much success cause the trophy ended up in paradise. chorus Coronation time was here 53 that was the year another 4 from England met there doom they said we'll have to try again but like before it was in vain because the cup is in the Parkhead trophy room. chorus And then in 1957 we faced a guy called Gorgie Nevin the game is etched on every Celtic fan Wilson, Mochan and Mc Phail and Willie Fernie scored as well as Celtic beat the Rangers 7-1. chorus So 10 years they had gone and so to Portugal we had to go, to play the team that Italy adore Celtic went out to attack they won the big cup and they brought it back it's the first time it had been on British shores. chorus And now a new Millennium we have a brand new stadium We're amongst the honours once again The Celtic fans did proudly sing Larsson is the King of Kings and he joins the list of famous Celtic men! OLD VERSES (oldest 1st) Now 21 years to the day we find it's our centenary and we're among the honours once again 6 million pounds the huns did spend but Souness found it was in vain because the Celtic are the Champions again. And now in 1995 it feels good just to be alive and we're about to celebrate again the fans all cry out for Pierre he rises up into the air and brings the Scottish cup to paradise. And now in 1998 the Celtic fans we're feeling great and we're about to celebrate again Larsson, Brattbakk and Tommy Boyd and Simon Donnelly and all the Bhoys are singing Celtic are the Champions again. And now a new Millennium we have a brand new stadium and we're about to celebrate again Larsson, Lennon and Tommy Boyd and Martin O'Neill and all the Bhoys are singing Celtic are the champions again. Fare thee well my lovely Dinah, a thousand times adieu For we're going away from the Holy Ground and the girls we all loved true And we'll sail the salt sea over, but we'll return for sure To greet again the girls we loved, on the Holy Ground once more (fine girl you are) Chorus: You're the girl I do adore and still I live in hopes to see The Holy Ground once more (fine girl you are) And now the storm is raging and we are far from shore And the good old ship is tossing about and the rigging is all tore And the secret of my mind, I think you're the girl I do adore For soon we live in hopes to see the Holy Ground once more (fine girl you are) Chorus And now the storm is over and we are safe and well We'll go into a public house and we'll sit and drink like hell We'll drink strong ale and porter and we'll make the rafters roar And when our money is all spent, we'll go to sea once more (fine girl you are) Title: Re: FOOTBALL SONGS Post by: CelticGeezeer on July 05, 2007, 12:41:37 AM you mean this one

As you go through life, it's a long, long road, There be joy's and sorrows too. As we journey on, we will sing this song For the boys in royal blue. We're often partisan, la, la, la, We will journey on, la, la, la. Chorus Keep right on to the end of the road, Keep right on to the end. Though the way be long, Let your hearts be strong, Keep right on to the end. Though you're tired and weary, Still journey on, Till you come to your happy abode, With all the love, we'll be dreaming of. Will be there, WHERE? At the end of the Road. Birmingham! Birmingham! What the hell do we care now. For it's a grand old team to play for. For it's a grand old team to see. And if you know your history. Its enough to make heart grow - oh - oh - oh We dont care what the animals say. What the hell do we care. For we only know that there's gonna be a show And the Glasgow Celtic will be there. Title: Re: FOOTBALL SONGS Post by: Longy on September 22, 2007, 03:55:38 PM The oldest song still sung at football is "On the ball city", it apparantly even predates the founding of Norwich City but was adopted by the club roughly a 100 years ago.
On the days to call, which we have left behind, Our boyhood’s glorious game, And our youthful vigour has declined With its mirth and its lonesome end; You will think of the time, the happy time, Its memories fond recall When in the bloom of your youthful prime We’ve kept upon the ball Kick off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die; On the ball, City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now’s your chance, Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal. Let all tonight then drink with me To the football game we love, And wish it may successful be And in one grand united toast Join player, game and song And fondly pledge your pride and toast Success to the City club. Kick off, throw it in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die; On the ball, City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now’s your chance, Hurrah! We’ve scored a goal. Only the chorus in bold is still sung, bit different to your standard football song im sure you will agree. Title: Re: FOOTBALL SONGS Post by: sovietsong on November 12, 2010, 09:26:05 PM We're winning away
