Title: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 04:00:03 PM It's been exercising my mind greatly, & this is not easy.
We want to keep our Forum up with the times, encouraging free speech, but a line has to be drawn somewhere, because we have a great many youing, & female, members, &, well, I'm a bit old-fashioned. More & more the "F-word" is appearing on blonde. It does not give ME offence, sadly I use it "off-Forum" rather more than I care to. But rarely in mixed conmpany, & then only if the "mixed company" consists of people I KNOW for sure won't be offended. And we get derivations of it. "f*ck", f**k", F**king" all mean the same thing to me. I have decided that I'd like us to refrain from using the word on blonde. It's not a hanging offence if it slips through now & then, we will just edit it oit, but I'd just prefer us not to see it on here. No big deal. I could try & list all the words I consider to be inappropriate, but that's just silly - you guys know whats OK & what's not, in the main. I must tell you that the issue of whether we should issue "rules" or "guidelines" is also taxing me greatly. I'm kinda against it, but my views are not set in stone. The thing is, we can issue a 10 point guideline, or a 1,000 point guideline, but if someone wants to find a way round them, they will. I am still in the, perhaps rather naive, "common sense & moderation" camp. I think the vast majority of blondeites know right from wrong, & come here for a reason, they must, one assumes, like the place as it is. (Heaven knows, it's growing faster than we ever imagined, so we must be doing something right). We will keep you informed on the issue of whether we intend to issue Rules & Guidelines, but please feel free to contribute to the debate on this thread, no decision has been made. However, it's unikely I will move my position as to the f-word. Like I said, no big deal. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 04:04:26 PM Only half Trace?
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: Dewi_cool on October 14, 2005, 04:10:15 PM Tikay, I am also old and old fashioned, I agree wholeheartedly, no reason at all for it, if you want to show that your angry >:( use a angry smiley
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: byronkincaid on October 14, 2005, 04:11:19 PM I think it would be a shame to have to issue rules and regulations. It's a bit like treating us like children, nobody will read them anyway and if someone wants to be an ass then they'll do it anyway. Not sure what the point is apart from being able to ban people quicker if they break the rules X amount of times or something. But it's your site and if you want to ban people after a nanosecond who cares it's up to you dude. Has anyone who's ever posted on 2+2 ever read their rules, I haven't.
However I do understand that as the site grows bigger and bigger controlling us unruley children must be getting harder and harder. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: TheJagster on October 14, 2005, 04:12:06 PM Does this mean that if we ban the word 'Chuff' as well Trace cant talk?????
;D ;D ;D ;D Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 04:17:00 PM Byron,
I agree 100% - that's why I am opposed to rule & guidelines. But not everyone thinks the same as me. Dewi - excuse me. I said I was "old-fashioned", NOT old. There's a difference. I am old-fashioned, Karabiner is old. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: The Camel on October 14, 2005, 04:22:57 PM I honestly don't think anyone is offended in the 21st century by swear words.
Except when it's directed at someone offensively I don't think there is anything wrong with it. Please don't go to far down the route of editing posts. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 05:19:17 PM Hi Keith.
Well, let's see what the "mood" of the Forum is, what feedback we get. I've had more thasn 20 PM's asking me to curtail the F-word on blonde. We sure do NOT want to be editing posts more than can be helped. Until the UK Poker saga we'd only edited a handful, & we'd only banned one Mermber, which was for racism. & I'd kinda like to keep it that way - self-policing. I really don't know is the honest answer, this running a Forum malarky is all new to me. Thankfully, many experienced Forum-users - you amongst therm - have helped us with advice. I DO know that I'm keen not to rock the boat. The growth we are seeing in blonde is breathtaking (to me anyway) & I don't wanna spoil it. But I'd rather have no Forum, than a bad Forum. Do it well, or not at all, is my view. Except on playing poker, where I aspire to mediocrity.... You playing our Freeroll tonight Keith? Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: patman on October 14, 2005, 05:26:14 PM i tjhink its overused and although i`m only 35 i tend to get frustrated when its used - i also enjoy a post more that doesnt need to use the f word,
i think sometimes people need to get it off their chest but actually stopping and avoiding using it may make the post more thought out and give time to cool down...a la wait a minute i cant use the f word ,mmmmmh right rephrase that sentence ..you are then actually thinking about what you are typing as opposed to angry bfingers splurging. dont think its a delete offence but perhaps gentle persuasion to avoid if at all possible there thats me tuppence worth ;D Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Swear words are part of the English language which is growing and evolvong by the day. The only words which offend me are racist and homophobic ones used to taunt or upset individuals. Use of the F word to emphasise a point or express frustration is pefectly acceptable in my view. But, as in all things, the majority view is the one we should abide by. I can't play the freeroll tonight. We are on a grand tour of Katharine's relatives showing Jake off. He better be on his best behaviour! Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 05:29:21 PM You talking to me Mr Blondie? Yeah, too much. My plate runneth over.
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: Acidmouse on October 14, 2005, 06:20:38 PM I am normally against editing posts on forums, but you have to go with the general consensus of the users. What harm does it do?
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 14, 2005, 06:32:31 PM Thanks Camel & Acidmouse.
I've decided, in the words of Red-Dog, that I'm undecided. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: RED-DOG on October 14, 2005, 06:35:17 PM Oi, just include me out!!

Post by: The Baron on October 14, 2005, 06:40:48 PM As someone with an Irish mother the F-word has been an integral part of my vocabulary for years. (on here I'm sure I've used fook, feck and other variations, apologies to all offended) After hanging out with my favourite bracelet winner a bit this summer, I realised to some people it's just a form of expression in a sentence - like it is with my dearest mother.
I'm with Mr Camel on this. I dont love the word on the whole but as a form of expression or used in a quote I think it is acceptable. I hear it so much on tv and in films (even a 12 certificate can have one F-word in it now!) that I just cannot be offended by it. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: M POWER on October 14, 2005, 07:41:39 PM I Post some utter dribble on here I know normaly around 11.30 after a bottle of chateau Neuf
I agree with no swearing regards M Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: bobby1 on October 14, 2005, 08:04:34 PM Tony,

Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: Cybertim on October 14, 2005, 08:50:23 PM just get an admin to switch on the forum swear filter and that way when someone types the f word it will be automatically replaced with (whatever you like) the point still gets across and admins dont need to spend time editing posts. sorted? maybe not <grin>
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: lvlarc_uk on October 14, 2005, 08:52:53 PM I dont have any problems with the F word, I mean we are in the 21st Century and it's more or less part of our language, but I can understand why peole would want it banned ~:

Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: RED-DOG on October 14, 2005, 09:06:10 PM " Frankly my dear, I dont give a f *a *g *l " ;) Made me laugh ;D Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: ifm on October 14, 2005, 09:09:03 PM i think moderation can go too far, if you see "edited by xxx" at the bottom of every post you start getting paranoid.
common sense is fine and has been all along, over use of swearing i agree but for such a tiny amount no. My tuppence, if it ain't broke.............................. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: AlrightJack on October 14, 2005, 10:40:43 PM I agree with Keith and others. A modicum of F wording should be acceptable. Otherwise people will start using annoying alternatives, like feck.
Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: henrik777 on October 14, 2005, 11:39:24 PM Maybe i'm just lazy but why type the extra letters to use such words ?
I swear a lot when talking but the only time i swear in wring tends to be a copy and paste job. Really can't see the need. I do not find it particularly offensive though. Sandy Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: divaflava on October 17, 2005, 04:45:40 PM BTW, in my posts WTF? stands for What the Freddie? and FFS means For Freddie's Sake. I'll leave the philosopher out of it.
DYPYMTSYCODSDIFFuMF? on the hand, is very rude. (pls don't ask as if you don't know already as the answer usually offends) Kin L this seems like very small potatoes but if 20 of your best friends point out there's no such thing as a 9pm watershed on a forum, then perhaps you should listen to them. On the other hand, does banning industrial language make you look rather too prim and proper? Can't say I'm arsed either way tho' ... ::) Damn, and I promised myself I wouldn't do chit-chat style posts on here again. I've added nothing to this thread, What a...erm, nuisance. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde...... Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:21:58 PM OK, I'm a bit old-fashioned, & I hear you all.
We will leave things as they are. I don't really like to see it too often on here, but let's leave it at that. We won't edit or delete, unless it's over-used, or directly aimed at an individual in an insulting or offensive way. New Guard 1. Old Guard 0. Title: Re: The F Word on blonde......
