Title: help with a maths problem
Post by: AdamM on July 05, 2007, 12:55:02 PM
how do I work out the odds of guessing consecutive hi/lo gambles?

assume you won't get dealt a like for like card and you always gamble the +ev way (ie higher than 2-7 and lower than 8-K either way for A)

I don't really know the rules, I assumed from OP that ace goes either way. You can probably adjust the table below yourself anyway, it should give you a good approximation.

Card   Good cards   Bad cards   Win%
Ace   12   0   100%
2   12   0   100%
3   11   1   92%
4   10   2   83%
5   9   3   75%
6   8   4   67%
7   7   5   58%
8   7   5   58%
9   8   4   67%
T   9   3   75%
J   10   2   83%
Q   11   1   92%
K   12   0   100%

      Average win %   81%
      Average lose %   19%

      Consecutive Wins
      1   81%
      2   65%
      3   53%
      4   43%
      5   34%
      6   28%

If it's play your cards right style. Then A is high only, and a pair loses, so a much lower chance that you currently have.

It certainly makes a big difference if the chance of pairing the cards is included.
