Title: A question about boredom Post by: londonpokergirl on July 05, 2007, 04:44:34 PM Ok so picture the scene, final table at sheffield 20 pot limit event, normally quite chatty, no ipods needed
Blinds 800/1600 and I have 15000 which is about 6th in chips, chip leader only on about 35k after 1 hour sat at final table and only 2 people have gone out, quite tight i'm bored as hell Ipod not working as its just run out of charge....... What do u do to relieve the boredom?? Never had this happen until 2 days ago Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: tikay on July 05, 2007, 04:54:45 PM No idea, never been bored at a poker table. If that ever happened to me, I'd quit the game instantly. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: kinboshi on July 05, 2007, 04:56:43 PM No idea, never been bored at a poker table. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: fearisthekey on July 05, 2007, 05:11:02 PM Start raising at random. (That is actually what I do). See how far I can push 72o, that kind of thing. I bring an Ipod to stop myself doing this lol.
Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: lucky_scrote on July 05, 2007, 05:24:32 PM I go walk round the casino to freshen my mind or go outside for a minute. I used to do this a lot when i first started playing live festivals since i couldnt adapt with the difference in pace compared to online play.
I havnt been bored in a while though, if i do i just get myself some food yipee Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: Rooky9 on July 05, 2007, 05:50:57 PM I'd sing, get chatty, get drunk... or all three.
Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: action man on July 05, 2007, 05:58:42 PM with less than 10 bb pushing all in blind every hand would be a start ;-)
Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: BigTomatoes on July 05, 2007, 06:00:43 PM i think poker , especially NL Holdem tourneys can be extremely boring at times. i just try and chat a bit , maybe make a few moves and play a few creative hands. apart from that i think thats why some people call it grinding a result , you just have to accept that most of the time you wont have a good enough hand that you want loads of action with and grin and bear the tediousness of the game in order to get a result in the end. was it Kenna James who said poker is a game where you can spend hours boredom for a few seconds of sheer agony. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: tikay on July 05, 2007, 06:07:41 PM i think poker , especially NL Holdem tourneys can be extremely boring at times. i just try and chat a bit , maybe make a few moves and play a few creative hands. apart from that i think thats why some people call it grinding a result , you just have to accept that most of the time you wont have a good enough hand that you want loads of action with and grin and bear the tediousness of the game in order to get a result in the end. was it Kenna James who said poker is a game where you can spend hours boredom for a few seconds of sheer agony. Exactly. But there's more to the game than just picking up playable hands. I interviewed a well-known "face" after he busted in a Vic Fessie Main Event last year. He said "this game disgusts me, I've sat here for 5 hours without more than 2 pocket pairs, I've never enjoyed a game less than that". Then toodled off to chat with his Sponsor, who'd paid him in. It's yet to occur to Laddo that ducking & diving & finding spots when you are card-dead is half the fun, & immensely satisfying. Boring, it's not. It;'s like train-spotting really, you just never know what is coming up next...... Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: tantrum on July 05, 2007, 06:40:38 PM I'm never bored ------

Mel If you are really bored, sort out your shopping list, a bit of knitting, etc. There must be lots of things girlies could do to while away the time. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: Ironside on July 05, 2007, 07:34:24 PM good thinking robert i am sure you at a FT there is enough room for you to bring an iron and your washing along
Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: ariston on July 05, 2007, 07:35:10 PM bored? at a poker table? surely not. I can honestly say I've never sat at a boring poker table. Have a bit of fun and find somebody to take the mick out of or run some outrageous bluffs (for tikay its called a missread) and show the table, try to get someone tilting, flirt with waitress/dealer/any attractive female at table, try builing a nice chipstack tower, try bouncing chips off the table and on to top of your stack, drink, sing, chat- sheesh theres so many things you can do at a table but bored- never.
I understand its more difficult for a woman(as it is a scientific fact they have smaller brains and attention spans) but surely you can try and plan next weeks cooking schedule or maybe take some knitting along or something ;) Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: madasahatstand on July 05, 2007, 07:38:29 PM I understand its more difficult for a woman(as it is a scientific fact they have smaller brains and attention spans) but surely you can try and plan next weeks cooking schedule or maybe take some knitting along or something ;) does this not constitute behaviour outwith the bounds of the new guidelines? specifically, the bit about not flaming and discriminating on the grounds of 'sex' ;) Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: londonpokergirl on July 05, 2007, 07:39:39 PM pmsl did the chip bouncing and tricks
chatted up waiter raised loads almost every hand actually did my internet banking list of who i'm paying but..... hey just wanted to see what every body else did ;) and Tikay no intention of quitting , thanks but I love poker very much indeed !!! Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: Robert HM on July 05, 2007, 07:39:50 PM good thinking robert i am sure you at a FT there is enough room for you to bring an iron and your washing along Of course, sensible suggestion there. Actually in an effort to assist I will be heading down to the Western for the, soon to happen, Ladies Only Comp with a supply of creased items for ironing. However I accept that a few maybe too busy swapping cake recipes. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: RED-DOG on July 05, 2007, 07:42:01 PM For me, The final table is what it's all about. Thats where the real poker-players poker takes place, I love every second of it.
If I ever look bored on a final table it just means that the act is working, the reality is, I'm as taut as a spring. I am always happy to do a deal if it means I can lock up a good payday, but I'm always a little disappointed that the game is over. I cant change the laws of natural order can I? If you are having problems with boredom at the table ladies you at least have the advantage over men where you could use one of them remote controlled jobbies- think of the fun you could have. Its hardly like the men could flick one off when they got bored is it lool Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: The_nun on July 05, 2007, 07:47:54 PM So if i do go I will get my long awaited cuddle..

And if Ariston is on the table, I just chill, lean back and watch him rip someone apart!! Ariston on a Final Table? Good god no... he was winding someone complaining about him going in blind in a 3 quid rebuy of all things.. This bloke was getting redder and redder till Ariston knocked him out I just laughed.. Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: ariston on July 05, 2007, 09:09:11 PM He won a pot off me tony then got all chirpy about me playing every hand blind (£3 rebuy that I took a lady friend along to for live experience). I warned him to not chirp too much or I would start looking at my cards and then he would have no chance whatsoever. He chirped again so I started looking at my cards (still raised every hand obviously) and knocked him out about 15 minutes later when he let me get into his head. Those little rebuy things are a good laugh actually tony although the level of grumpy bstrds is a lot higher and in a £3 rebuy I get a lot more people telling me where I'm going wrong and trying to help me with my game loool. Amazing how many experts there are at the small tourneys.
To the ladies who are having a chip on this thread I shall remind you its now past 9pm and you should be either getting the kids packed lunches ready or preparing yourselves for bedroom duties about now (go make an effort and have a bath or something while your man watched TV for a bit) ;) Title: Re: A question about boredom Post by: Dingdell on July 06, 2007, 12:06:39 AM To the ladies who are having a chip on this thread I shall remind you its now past 9pm and you should be either getting the kids packed lunches ready or preparing yourselves for bedroom duties about now (go make an effort and have a bath or something while your man watched TV for a bit) ;) bedroom duties? rotflmfao If a woman thinks its a duty then the man aint doing it right.......
