Title: Just another thursday.
Post by: hector62 on July 06, 2007, 01:08:25 PM
As i sat down at the computer i felt like Dorian Gray as he approached the attic to look at his portrait. He knew that what he would see would terrify him but he had to do it. Last Thursday i got away lucky by banking a small profit this time would be different,

There were some interesting comments on last weeks article which i do not believe could explain why they are so bad for me. Most of the people i play against are the same ones each day and i do not have anyone else in the flat to distract me. It is just me and the cards i am dealt.

I decided to use a cunning piece of software to look at the cards i was getting to see if that could explain anything.Actually my PC is old and therefore slower than a British female tennis players second serve so putting poker tracker on it at the same time as running a poker site is a no go.

I kept it very simple. I would note each time i was dealt an ace and compare that to a statistical norm.

In the morning i played 9 sit and go's. not getting in the money in any of them,  which amounted to 292 hands. I was dealt an ace on 32 occasions. I switched to cash game in the afternoon and played 225 hands, getting an ace  28 times. Statistically you should get an ace
16% of the time. This means that in the morning the % was   31%  lower than it should be and in the afternoon 24% lower.

The size of the card with the ace is important so i noted them. In the morning 18 were lower than an 8, 13 above it.In the afternoon 16 were below, and 12 were above.

I am aware there is such a thing as variance and i am not writing this to get a debate on what can happen on any given day. But i wrote last weeks article after seeing what my sharkscope graph showed me was happening on Thursday. I feel now like my nemesis Dorian Gray  about to look at his picture. However unlike him I am too scared to look at it.
