It's a disgrace that they let the TV people dictate the pace of play to the detriment of the tournament in general and the players in particular. Title: Re: wsop day 6 Post by: MPOWER on July 15, 2007, 09:04:25 PM Just something to dream about

Even when I first went to the WSOP before tv cameras were around, play slowed to a funerial pace at the last couple of tables. Although I guess it's understandable, for a fairly quick player it must be infuriating in the extreme. I understand people take a bit longer to make decisions when they're under pressure. Apparently one of the reasons play is so slow is that all the chips are very similar colours. I'd be spitting feathers. Title: Re: wsop day 6 Post by: The Rivercard on July 15, 2007, 09:31:33 PM Scotty Nguyen Color Blind?
Scotty Nguyen had a problem with putting the wrong color chip out for his big blind. There are three denominations of chips and they're all a variation of orange. The 5,000 chips are orange or tangerine as one staff member called it. The 25,000 chips are peach-colored. The 50,000 are salmon-colored. Depending on the lighting in the Amazon Ballroom and underneath the lights of the ESPN feature table, both players and dealers are having a difficult time figuring out what chips are in play. As one player said, he had to physically look at the numbers on the chips to determine what he's betting. Since all the chips are very similar to each other, action has slowed down while players make extra precautions before betting. Dealers are also having a tougher time counting down stacks and bets. Unreal 3 chips at this stage close to the same colour Title: Re: wsop day 6 Post by: kinboshi on July 15, 2007, 09:34:45 PM Scotty Nguyen Color Blind? On the Featured Table, Jon Kalmar says "Raise" from middle position, but throws in more than half a raise but less than a full raise -- regardless of his originally intent, he is required to make the minimum raise to 120,000. Daniel Alaei reraises from the button to 540,000, and Kenny Tran thinks things over for a minute in the big blind before he folds. The action is back to Kalmar, he moves all in for 1.69 million, and Alaei calls with . Kalmar shows , and as the shorter stack, he'll need them to hold up to stay alive. (Tran says that he folded pocket jacks.) The flop comes , and Kalmar flops a set of kings for a dominating lead. Alaei needs something runner-runner to win the hand. 7 minutes ago Bill Edler: "The Stunning One" Throughout this whole tournament, one player has truly stood out as a first-class act. His name is Bill Edler. You might remember Edler winning $904,000 for first place in Event #45 ($5,000 6-handed NLHE) where he took home his first WSOP bracelet. Bill is not only a great poker player, but is modest, gracious, and has a very polite demeanor. He graduated from UC-Berkeley with a law degree, but has never practiced, instead electing to play poker. He started out as a cash-game player and has transitioned into the tournament world over the last two years. His best friends are Gavin Smith and Erick Lindgren. Smith even gave him his poker nickname-- "The Stunning One." Edler has placed sixth, seventh and 13th in various World Poker Tour events, making the final table at Bay 101 in March 2007. He recently won the $10,000 NLHE Heads-Up Championships at Crystal Park Casino in Southern California where he defeated Daniel Negreanu in his first match and Barry Greenstein in the finals. Make no mistake about Bill Edler-- he's a poker tournament machine. With 27 players left, he has 4.8 million chips and is in position to perhaps go all the way. Edler feels that in tournaments, if he finds himself in a coinflip situation, he has failed. According to him, there is an art to building a stack without too many coinflips where you're risking your tournament life. Given the manner in which Bill handles himself with people, what a great ambassador for poker he could be as a WSOP Main Event Champion. Best of luck, Bill! My sort of player, my pick for second place, one behind Skalie of course! Title: Re: wsop day 6 Post by: taximan007 on July 15, 2007, 11:44:43 PM 26 left

If you Google "Rain Khan" you'll read his amazing story of playing up to 43 single-table sit-and-goes at once and getting banned by Poker Stars as a "bot." He decided to make a film documenting him playing 28 games at one and sent it to Poker Stars. The film convinced Poker Stars he was for real and his ban was subsequently lifted. Hand #25 - Philip Hilm Hand #25 - Jon Kalmar has the button in seat 9, Philip Hilm raises from the cutoff to 600,000, Hevad 'Rain' Khan reraises from the small blind to 2.2 million, and Hilm thinks for more than a minute before he moves all in for 15.9 million. Khan goes into the tank for about two minutes before he folds. Philip Hilm takes the pot. (Side note: A drunken railbird was escorted out of the Milwaukee's Best No-Limit Lounge shortly before Hilm moved all in.) http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com/tourney/updates_pn.asp?tourneyID=3482&groupID=309&dispType=2 |
