Title: Abiout Blank - Computer Probs.
Post by: GlasgowBandit on July 16, 2007, 11:13:41 PM
Need some help from any techies out there.

My young cousin was messing about on my laptop last week downloading games and software that i didn't need.  I have deleted all or most of the files i picked up on.  However since this incident I have been having problems when I click on a link on a web page basically I get another window opens up and just says "about blank" there is nothing shown here and when I click the X to close it wont cose down.

This results in me having to use the CTRL, ALT, DEL to get into task manager and then close down  IE.

Any ideas on what could be causing this or indeed any tips on how to sort the problem out?

Seriously, use Firefox instead.

Download firefox, try it out for a while.  If you don't like it, download the most up-to-date version of IE and reinstall it.

Sounds like a virus or spyware, trying to manipulate your home page settings or redirecting you to another site. Is you AV up to date, run spybot search and destroy.

As previous reply stated, avoid IE, opera is best.

Dougie.

ps. Bandit whats your name ?

Download 'Spybot' and run it.

It's free anti spyware, and very good.

I'd suggest the last method "adaware away":

Cheers for the replies guys.

I have downloaded SpyBot and ran a scan says there 650 infected files but before I can quarantine these I need to sign up and its looking for some $$.  But I run a weekly scan with Norton and its picked nothing up ???

I have downloaded Firefox and started using it.  Should I uninstall IE or just keep that still?
