Why is this question Irksome ? Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: KingPoker on July 21, 2007, 03:05:45 AM Lukewarm
Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: Snatiramas on July 21, 2007, 08:50:10 AM Tepid - slghtly warm, lukewarm
Lukewarm - moderately warm.tepid According to THe Tmes English Dictionary Moderately would definitely have to be regarded as a stronger word than slightly. I fear we could move towards "is a Jaffa cake a cake or a biscuit" and we do not want to end up there now do we. Doh! too late Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: happybhoy on July 21, 2007, 08:50:19 AM According to google tepid is a temperature of 21-27C, lukewarm is 38C. That'll be my new thing learned for today then, glad I got mine out the way early.

Doh! too late Mcvities won a court case defining Jaffa Cakes as cakes a while ago ( there's some sort of tax breaks on cakes as opposed to biscuits i think). The case hinged on the fact that jaffa cakes as with normal cakes go harder as the go off, as opposed to biscuits which go softer. So legally speaking at least, jaffa cakes ARE cakes. Interesting stuff huh! (errrrr......) Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: TightEnd on July 21, 2007, 11:23:53 AM Shall I begin on KitKats?

Yes, my nephew is called Luke, and as he is human, I'd agree with lukewarm being around 38°C, but more specifically 37°C. I don't know anyone called Tepid. Well Bainn, let's put it this way. If you are ever in front of a mexican firing squad and they give you a last request, you should ask for a Texan bar. It takes so long to chew that by time you have finished it, all the firing squad have fallen asleep and you can simply ride off into the sunset on your trusty mule. Apologies to anyone under the age of 45 who wont have a clue what I'm talking about - when I was a kid I knew every word from that advert and used to drive my mum mad by reciting it all the time around the house. First line... "A last request, Gringo????" Reply "Guess I'll have one of them Texas bars......" There's more where that came from!! OK.... now you know!! ;hattip; Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: KingPoker on July 22, 2007, 02:42:49 PM Tepid - slghtly warm, lukewarm Lukewarm - moderately warm.tepid According to THe Tmes English Dictionary Moderately would definitely have to be regarded as a stronger word than slightly. Interesting stuff huh! (errrrr......) There is also another reason to differentiate between cakes and biscuits, Cakes are cooked at a lower heat for a longer time. Biscuits are cooked at a higher heat for a shorter time. McVitties did the case as you said there were tax breaks, this is due to the fact they have a chocalate top layer and anything with a chocalate top, such as chocolate digestives/hob nobs are taxed so they did it to avoid paying for it. The whole thing surrounded the fact that cakes and biscuits are zero rated for tax, but chocolate coated biscuits count as luxury items, and so are standard tax rated. I do like Jaffa Cakes myself, not too keen on the ones with the red (raspberry?) filling though - much prefer the standard orange ones. Title: Re: Irksome question Post by: happybhoy on July 22, 2007, 04:51:29 PM Mundane fact for the day: Biscuit comes from the Latin for twice cooked, making Ginger Nuts one of the few 'real' biscuits around today.
