Title: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: M3boy on October 16, 2005, 05:12:14 PM I have to post this as I am VERY annoyed.
I was wondering how many of you "get it quietly" when outdrawing someone on a table. To me this is the proper way to act, yes inside you may be doing cartwheels, but outside I feel you should remain calm and polite. This is what happened to me at the Main event in Brighton. Down to 3 tables, only 40 minutes before we finish for the night. I have 29.5K and the blinds have just gone up to 1500 3000. I am in first position and find AA. I move all in. Guy in late position with approx 35k also moves all in. SB passes BB passes. There is now 63.5K in the pot (and the av for the final table would be 80k) The guy is up out of his seat, waving his cards. You can tell he cant wait to show them to me. He lays down KK I turn over my AA "Give me a King!! " he shouts, "Come on the King!!!" When the King hit the flop he went mental!! He was shouting "YES YES!!!" at the top of his voice, not once but over and over and over again. I just sat there calmly, obviously hoping the A would fall on turn or river - to shut him up more than anything!! But then the 4th King came on the turn and he went mental again!!!! Now being knocked out of a tourney this way is bad enough, but to be subjected to such poor manners is a disgrace!!!!!!!! Anger vented, sorry BTW, Dave C was still in when I left - GOOD LUCK Mr C Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: snoopy1239 on October 16, 2005, 05:17:04 PM I agree.
hope you feel better now. :)up Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: TightEnd on October 16, 2005, 05:19:47 PM I agree. I hate it, but not as much as I hate it when someone not in the pot does it
Name and shame?* * unless he's from Australia! Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: M3boy on October 16, 2005, 05:30:14 PM Tighty, if i could remember his name I would.
He is (or was when i played there) a regular at The Vic Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: mex on October 16, 2005, 05:40:33 PM I blame television! The shouting and jumping up and down makes good TV and a lot of players are copying this. Thing is the old gentleman image of the card room has gone. If this was the final table and the last 2 then yes he could of done perhaps been forgiven for getting excited, But at that stage he got lucky and very lucky by the sound of it. Did you act the bigger man and shake his hand M3 as this some times makes them feel very silly?, what would of been funny would a 15 min sit out issued by the TD.
Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: 12barblues on October 16, 2005, 05:42:43 PM So tournament directors will DQ people for swapping 'shifts' and give 10 minute bans for using the 'f' word even if it was not abusive to another player (who amongst us hasn't muttered 'ffs' under their breath after a savage outdraw?), but this incitement to violence is tolerated? The temptation to deck the ******* must have been enormous.
I fear I will remain a live poker virgin for some time. Surely card rooms can see that tolerating this kind of behaviour is simply bad for business, quite apart from any ethical considerations ??? The temptation to deck the ******* must have been enormous. I fear I will remain a live poker virgin for some time. Surely card rooms can see that tolerating this kind of behaviour is simply bad for business, quite apart from any ethical considerations ??? I can easily see how this is going to lead to some violence. Just as an example, the table we were on must have been a "bad beat" table. All of the examples below happened within about 20 hands. Chip leader with 44 calls a 3xBB raise, flop comes J 7 2 and he bets out 30k (enough to set the other guy in) The guy called with AA. And a 4 came on the river. Did the c/l get exited? Probably, Did he shout?? NO He said "very unlucky". Then about 4 hands later the same C/L calls Mark Banin's all in (who had just called a short stacks all in with AQ to find the shortstack with J 4, he hit a 4 on the river). Mark had 10 10, the c/l had 66, he hit a 6 on the river. Again, no emotion just the words "unlucky" AA was cracked 4 hands after mine by 88 and again just the words "unlucky" What a difference eh? And who said online poker is rigged?!?!?!? Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: M3boy on October 16, 2005, 06:09:18 PM And just for the record, I sat calmly, got up and said "same as the Gutshot" "nice hand" and walked out calmly (well on the outside anyway)
Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Nem on October 16, 2005, 06:11:40 PM M3boy,
Good job they didn't introduce my idea. "Bad beat section. 50p a go" You would owe £2.50 already ;D :D ;D :D But I do agree with you, there is no need for shouting and gettng over excited because you have given someone a bad beat. Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: redsimon on October 16, 2005, 06:16:02 PM And just for the record, I sat calmly, got up and said "same as the Gutshot" "nice hand" and walked out calmly (well on the outside anyway) Should have found out where his car was and let the tyres down :o (only joking)...lets face it some players have no class. Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Royal Flush on October 16, 2005, 07:50:28 PM Sounds like a muppet to me.
on a seperate note....all in for 30k utg with AA, lol, you fish! Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: M3boy on October 17, 2005, 09:25:51 AM Anyone know the result from the main event? I just wondered how Mr C finished??
Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 06:04:03 PM Mr C finished, in line with is current form, 10th.
He is in Cardiff today, playing the William Hill Grand Prix. Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 06:04:44 PM Oh, & xx to Charmaine.
Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: wsopin07 on October 17, 2005, 06:14:44 PM I think it is the way the person who is knocked out takes the "celebration" from the other player. When I played John Gale headsup I was very very animated!!! But John did not mind, in fact John considers me a friend and he actually thanked me for the way I acted when I finally won the event. If you are rubbing it in that is one thing. If you are purely enjoying what you are doing that is another. When Tony G yapped at Surrindar during the Paris WPT many people thiught it was bad and out of line. Surrindar has told me that it did not matter to him, he was not mad at all....... he said Tony did nothing wrong and I agree w/ him.
I am more troubled w/ players that comment about the way someone plays, always putting people down. I think this is a much bigger problem than the celebration problems. Just my opinion >:D Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: I KNOW IT on October 17, 2005, 08:11:49 PM Another thing that really p *g *g *g es me off, is when you are in a situation for eg:
you are holding the KK v's AA all in, then when you turn them on their backs, some idiot who's not anything to do with the pot says " oh Ive folded a King " I must say that I saw that behaviour frequently whilst playing in America, and told a guy at the table that it showed a lack of respect for the player. He looked at me puzzled and couldnt believe I was serious. Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! He looked at me puzzled and couldnt believe I was serious. I've gotta own up to having been guilty of this in the distant past, but no longer after someone protested. Now I keep it zipped. However, even though I understand its bad form, I'm still not sure why (it wouldn't bother me personally). So outta curisosity, why do you think it shows lack of respect craig? For me there is nothing worse than someone banging the table when they win a hand. Nothing. It's bad enough going out a tournament, without some half-arsed chuffwit hammering the felt and jumping around like a constipated chimpanzee. Man, that winds me. If you win the chips, just take em, and have a bit of class. grrrrr. Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: I KNOW IT on October 18, 2005, 12:50:41 AM I think its bad because, if it isnt bad enough being an underdog, then someone tells you they have passed one of your outs. Why? They are nothing to do with the pot and how can they honestly think you want to hear it.
What can be gained be telling someone else, you have folded one of their outs ??? ??? I think it shows lack of respect or they are trying to be a ............... Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: Robert HM on October 18, 2005, 01:03:50 AM Last week on, I think, the Poker Channel, showed a cash game from the Bike. Guy had managed to put all hi chips in the middle with Jacks, other player turns over Queens. Third player said " I folded my Jacks. I would have had to be held down.
Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: wsopin07 on October 18, 2005, 01:05:45 AM but is it bad manners? You are not commenting on the play, I like the extra info if im at the table, I usually dont give up that info but is it a big deal? I just dont care myself >:D
I do care when someone tries to talk down to you at the table, tells you that you play badly. Im at the Monte Carlo in Vegas about a week ago, playing $100 comp w/ only 13 players, 2 of my good buddies in Vegas wanted me to play. I knock out the 1st 6 players, I got lucky and hit 3 open ended draws in a row. Then I move all in over 2 players w/ 7 4 of hearts. I flop the flush and knock out 2 more players. player #1 tells me how bad I am and tells me i am a discrace to poker. He later finds out I won a bracelet and asks for my autograph??? I won the comp, gave the dealers $200 of the $750 I won and everyone had a great night. My point is I dont care about the small things, I care about someone being an ass to other players!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: wsopin07 on October 18, 2005, 01:21:32 AM i totally understand, it just is low on my the BS at the table list that I have >:D
1) cheating 2) smart ass comments / everyone is a poker pro 3) drunkiness 5) Phil Helmuth ( #1 for DC) 5) Old guys making me lay down TT to their J 4 Rookies rules to follow >:D Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Title: Re: TABLE MANNERS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Post by: The Baron on October 18, 2005, 02:17:14 AM The telling me that they've passed one of my outs is free information I guess, but if I've made a value call vs 4 players with say 89 of hearts in a rebuy I want to enjoy my flop. I've paid my £20/£30/£50 buy in (rebuy) and I want to enjoy it. Telling me you've passed 89 isn't really going to get me to write you an xmas card.
