Title: Paul King Post by: Jeff D on October 17, 2005, 09:30:18 AM Paul,
Alan Vinson sold you his hotel room in Walsall on Saturday night. I believe you didn't use it, but you went home with the key. The hotel want to charge Alan £200 for the key! Could you please send it back to the hotel. This rounded off a great weekend for Al, who was disqualified from the tournament without playing a hand! Title: Re: Paul King Post by: TightEnd on October 17, 2005, 09:45:00 AM Jeff
I know I shouldn't laugh, but this must have been Alan's weekend from hell To further complicate the story I believe Paul, when knocked out, then gave the room to Jen Mason who was live updating with tikay. I think I'll let tikay speak to you! Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 04:56:54 PM Talk about a can of worms. No, Paul - a good mate of mine, with THE most beautiful wifey, gave the key to Burnley John. Burnley John later gave it to Jen. He never told Jen where he got it, we assumed it was always his. So, at about 0400 on Saturday, I told Jen I'd give her a lift to "her" hotel, then I'd drive back to Derby. We had no idea where the Hotel was - there is no address on the Key Fob, so we asked Richard, the TD in Walsall. He said "there are two Travelodges local". Bum. So I called Burnley John, by now it's maybe 0430. John said "I have no idea where it is". Hmm, I guess that should have started the alarm bells ringing...... So, Richard produced a little map, showing us where the nearest one was, about a mile from the Casino. Jen, you need to know, was out on her feet, poor kid, she'd had a nightmare journey up from London, & had been Updating 14 hours straight. Off we go, we find the Hotel. I walk her into Reception, just to make sure the room IS in that Hotel, I don't wanna abandon her "room-less". Geezer says "yeah, no problem, but you need to register first". OK I say to Jen, I'll be off then, & off I go, and I get home at aboit 0530. Straight to bed, then I start getting texts from Jen. It seems that AFTER she'd registered at the Hotel, it's discovered that here is someone IN the room we thought was Pauls/Johns/Jens. Alan's as well, but we never knew that. So the Reception guy in the Traveloiodge is dead helpful, & sends Jen to a Traveodge near J7 of the M6. He calls her a cab, & off she goes. When they arrive, the Travelodge door is locked, & the Reception guy is visible inside, fast asleep. She gets the taxi to wait, & they use Jen's mobile to ring the Hotel, so the guy will wake up & open the door. Eventually, he does, & let's Jen in. The Room Number is 38, & there is someone already in THIS Room 38 as well. The geezer is stroppy, unhelpful, & rude, & after a series of frantic phone calls, Jen gets the cab to take her back to the original Travelodge. We never discovered where the Hotel to which we got the key was..... So, Jen gets back tio the first Travlodge, geezer is incredibly understanding & helpful. Jen says "I don't CARE where I sleep, I'll just sleep on the floor in reception if I have to, I just HAVE to sleep". Jen's the sort who can fall asleep standing up if she runs out of gas. So the man say, look, I have a room that's booked to someone else for several nights, but he's not staying here tonight, you can have that. OK, that's the deal. They go up to the room, it's full of some strangers personal belongings, the bed has been slept in, & the room stinks. So they give Jen some clean sheets, & she changes the bedclothes herself. THEN they tell her she has to be out of the room by 10.00am - it's now turned 7am......But she CAN swap rooms at 10.00am. OK, thats the deal. At 10.00am she vacates the room, & goes to Reception to get her new room, as promised. Different guy on now. "We can't let you into any rooms before 2pm, thats our Policy"........WHAT? But the other man said...... Don't care, it's 2pm or nothing. Now, not many of you have seen Jen when she's been crossed. It's a thing of wonder, but a thing to avoid. Reception guy gets the full treatment, with Jen evetually saying "I don't give a monkeys, I am gonna sleep on the floor, right here in reception, right now. Wake me when my room is ready". Ans she does just that. Right there, off to sleep in Reception. She is woken at 1pm (due back at the Casino by 2.45) & given her room, & grabs another hours kip pre the Live Update. I collect her, as arranged at 2.30pm. "Slleep well Jen?", I innocently ask......... Why was her room not pre-booked in advance? That's my job, but it was a late decision for Jen to do Walsall. I usually book both rooms - hers & mine - same time, & as I did not need a Hotel for Walsall, I clean forgot. So, there you go. Any debt Jen has incurred on behalf of blonde is down to me, & I'll honour it. Jen got naff all sleep, blonde incurred about £40 of Taxi Fares, & everyone's a loser. It would have helped if someone had advised me or Jen WHERE the damn Hotel was, for starters! It WAS reasonable to assume it was the one round the corner, in the absence of any other facts. Who's gonna kop for the £200? "Ruling please". Oh, & by the way, where WAS the Hotel? Title: Re: Paul King Post by: dik9 on October 17, 2005, 05:05:23 PM Original night worker at original hotel sounds extremely helpful.
But putting someone in a bed where other peoples belongings are is a bit........................................of a sackable offence surely. I would have gone balistic if I found out. Fairplay to helping a lady in distress tho! Title: Re: Paul King Post by: ifm on October 17, 2005, 05:07:18 PM great story!!
your fault Tikay and no arguments. are we on about the same key? did AB give it to PP who gave it to BJ who gave it to TK? or is there another key? the plot thickens..................... Title: Re: Paul King Post by: Robert HM on October 17, 2005, 05:10:38 PM Watch this space for the Blonde Camper Van, ensures sleeping accomadation on tap
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:13:39 PM Jen is arranging a small gift for the geezer at Hotel # 1. And a letter to Head Office about the geezer in Hotel 2.
We have no idea if we are talking about the same key. Yup, my fault. In fact, I think it's Tony G's fault. And if someone will come on here & tell us where the Hotel to which we were given the key actually WAS.......... Title: Re: Paul King Post by: ifm on October 17, 2005, 05:17:03 PM travelinn?
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: TightEnd on October 17, 2005, 05:18:58 PM The Village?
Quality Inn? What a palaver.....and a classic one thing led to another tale! Title: Re: Paul King Post by: kerryguy on October 17, 2005, 05:23:41 PM tikay the travelodge was in west brom i know as alan gave me the money to book him the room the phone no 08701 977 264
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:25:55 PM Not the Village - it was a Travelodge or Tavel-Inn.
The "local" one, where we started - & finished - turn right out of casino car park, left at lights, next left immediately, half a mile, right hand side. So it's not that one. Or the one at J7. (West Bromwich?). Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:30:12 PM Thanks Kerryguy. The Receptionist at West Bromwixch - the one who was aaleep - refused to allow Jen to have the room - he said it belonged to someone else & all but threw her out of Reception. She was definitely refused THAT room.
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: kerryguy on October 17, 2005, 05:39:26 PM tikay the travel inn is on A41 between west brom and wolverhampton
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: dik9 on October 17, 2005, 05:41:56 PM Can't you ask which hotel is charging alan vinson the £200?
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:44:33 PM Thanks KerryGuy. I don't know EXACTLY where she ended up going, nor I suspect does Jen. She just said it was somewhere near J7 of the N6. But if she or I were not given the address of the Hotel........ Not YOUR fault, for sure. But not ours, either. We asked the guy who gave it to her - Burnley John - & he did not know, so we had to assume the local one. Followed by the next nearest one. Title: Re: Paul King Post by: tikay on October 17, 2005, 05:46:47 PM Good thinking dik9, but it don't really help at this stage.....
I think someone should tell Travelodge (or whoever) to stick their bill. Title: Re: Paul King Post by: ifm on October 17, 2005, 05:52:05 PM west brom is junction 1 M5
Title: Re: Paul King Post by: I KNOW IT on October 17, 2005, 08:30:07 PM I spoke to burnley John, and the way he described the location of his hotel, it sounded like the Friendly Hotel (used to be called The Friendly Lodge) just 2 mins round the corner.
Sounds like Jen went to the notso Friendly Hotel ;D |
