Probably a mix of the three, but the biggest ones to blame are the "bad" kids who also give a bad impression of the good ones that are out there.

i think it maybe blinkered to only criticise or seek escapism from what is i beleve to be an over reaction in a lot of instances of YOUNG PEOPLE trying to establish an identity in todays society, i believe a positive and understanding attitude to most so called yobbish behaviour would have far more benifical effects for themselves and society as a whole as a comprehension of the difficulties they have inflicted upon others are made apparent to them. rather than the ostracization that we opt for now. They are horrible little t**ts, and do not make this country much fun to be in.. Enjoy Cyprus.. i dont blame you, and hopefully one day ill have enough for me to do the same.. I told the story last week of the Sky Poker meeting. The Boss apart, everyone there was a youngster. (I exempt myself.....) They run a Live TV Show, pover 3 hours long, 7 nights a week. They do it without help from elders. That's some responsibility. The staff (per night) are around 20 in number, & in 8 months, there have been less than a handful of "sickies" or absenteeism. The "kids" are bright, cheerful, enthusiastic, intelligent, happy, conscientious & respectful to their elders. They dress well, are clean, don't stink of BO, don't "nip" money, & have decent manners. Unlike many adults. I don't agree that we should categorize all kids as bad, or that the problem in Britain is worse than anywhere else. A wider view is needed. And if the kids are bad (or good), perhaps we should take a look at the parents. Title: Re: cant wait to go.,.,.,., Post by: AlanWright on August 07, 2007, 10:45:18 AM Thats the difficulty for kids like you say, they have nothing to do. When they see most adults just getting absolutely sh*tfaced every five minutes it makes them follow suit. Bored drunk kids = trouble in any country. Not just here.
It really is fair to throw as much abuse you can at some kids because they are little gits, but its unfair to generalise with any group of people. At the end of the day I'd say the good kids out number the bad ones by a hell of a lot, they just don't get the coverage. Reasons for this are because as a nation we are obsessed with bad news. That's a GREAT Post Alan. I don't care what arguments are advanced, "problem kids" are usually that way because of their parents. Fix the cause, not the effect. Bad parents begat bad kids. Title: Re: cant wait to go.,.,.,., Post by: kinboshi on August 07, 2007, 11:45:06 AM The environment people are in can have a far greater influence on behaviour than people realise. It can often be the dominant factor over the way people are (nature) and the way they are brought up (nuture).
Look at the way they tackled crime in the New York subway system. There were murders and robberies occurring at a frightening rate, but what did they focus on to reduce the crime? They worked on removing the graffiti and stopping people ticket dodging, and effectively did nothing directly associated to the serious crimes. But it worked. They created an environment that was more pleasant, that didn't foster criminal activity, and serious crime levels fell dramatically as a result. The 'broken window' syndrome is the problem for many areas in the UK (and in other countries of course). If you're living in an area that has a high number of derelict houses, vandalism, and nothing positive to do, then it's going to perpetuate the anti-social behaviour that Sofa's been talking about. Blaming the parents is too simplistic. As with Kizzy, Tom, it should not be necessary to slap a kid to bring him in line, if bought up well it can be done "on command". But most kids deserve a slap now & then, & if I had kids, I'd slap them if need be. I would not allow the law to prevent me. But of course, I've never been a Parent, so my views are discounted to a degree. But I was a kid once - many of us were - & I got plenty of whacks, from Parents, & School authority. They did me the world of good, & no harm whatsoever. My friend smacked the boy, once, lightly on the bottom, and was arrested at gunpoint and marched away in handcuffs while his family, including his now hysterical son, looked on. And THATS why we have some bad kids. I accept, of course, that in this case, blaming the parent is a bit rich. The law preventing kids fom being physically punished is well-intended, & a good thing, but it's been dreadfully badly framed, & it's a case of the baby & the bathwater. Title: Re: cant wait to go.,.,.,., Post by: Claw75 on August 07, 2007, 12:23:53 PM It would be interesting to know if any research has been done into whether kids who get smacked turn out to be better behaved than their counterparts who aren't smacked. I'd be very surprised if that were the case, to be honest.

The same is true for the majority our laws. That's why, in the eyes of the law, if I don't travel with my home and my family in persuit of my living, I am no longer a Gypsy. The very definition that was designed to assist us now hinders us. Title: Re: cant wait to go.,.,.,., Post by: AlanWright on August 08, 2007, 10:10:26 PM sorry to bump this thread but I have some more opinions and I only just had a look at the forum since yesterdays post.
I firmly believe in hitting children when they misbehave, I was hit as a child and I turned out ok, well at least I think i did *swigs special brew* I do believe there is a very fine line to how a child reacts to it though depending on what they have been hit for, many abusive parents overuse it and in turn create a monster out fo their child which reverts back to what tikay was stating about bad parents = bad kids. Which is without a doubt one of the most pressing issues in our country today. Letting violent parents bring up violent kids needs to be kerbed but there is just know moral/ethical way to say "Hey you can't reproduce anymore".
