Title: the 4th re-raise before the flop....
Post by: jpean on August 08, 2007, 02:13:54 PM
I've read in a book that seems good where it was writen that the 4th re-raise before the flop means American Airlines...

as a disciplined pupil, I've followed that rule :

5 players on the table, live cash game, I was on the button. blinds : 0,10€/0,20€, max buy-in : 20€.

I had :   9c 9d

  • the player UTG and the cut-off limped.
  • I raised to 1€.
  • the small blind re-raised to 4€.
  • the Big B, UTG, and the cut-off falled.
  • I re-re-raised to 15€

I know that this raise was a big mistake because if my opponent just had called, he would have been commited, so It would have been better to raise All-in.

  • My opponent made All-in (to 19€50)
  • I falled

I would like you to say me if the falled was a good choice :
I know that I had not a lot of money to put on the pot, but for me, he COULD NOT have less than JJ, and I was sure that my hand will be domminate. so I decided not to give him more money.

What do you think of his falled ? I know that I have done a very bad mistakes not raising to All-in but it was made, but was the decision to falled bad too ?

but when I saw what he had... :
 Ad 9h

How much money did you have on the table?

How much did the opponent have? Is that 19.50 or 50?

If the all in is to 19.50 total and I have already put 15 in then I am never folding.

I think it was TJ Cloutier who said the 3rd raise is always Aces, but I could be wrong.

I agree..we need to know what the 4th raise was....if it's €50 then I'm folding, if it's €19.50, I'm calling and taking my chances

I have to say I don't like your first re-raise anyway...you've raised once with a nice pocket pair and then got resistance. I'd prefer to control the pot size and I want to see a flop here with 99. I'm certainly not making another re-raise to all-in!

Depending on the flop (and often regardless for a stop & go), I'll lead out for say 60% of the pot size and see what happens.

But then again, cash isn't really my forte...

I think it was TJ (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=767) Cloutier (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=767) who said the 3rd raise is always Aces, but I could be wrong.

You're right. But, I'm sure that he said the 4th raise. The book I talked about is Phil Gordon's where he said that T.J. Cloutier said him that.

And to answer the other question, the 4th re-raise (to all-in) was to 19€50... So you would have paid ? 4€50 with blind 0,10/0,20 to see if my opponent was bluffing..... only because the pot is important or ther is another reason ?

I'd call even if I only had one card.

In fact, I'd call even if that one card was the card from the pack with the instructions on it.
