Hello everyone.

Cards are being dealt, chips are being twiddled and singlasses being donned. Play is underway!

Kev has Ross Boatman on his table so will be cracking a joke or two at Ross's expense no doubt once he gets into the swing of things. Ross loses a pot...."dunno about london's burning but your stack's on bloody fire mate...." something like that, but I'm sure Kev can do better.

For now he is wearing his sunglasses and baseball cap and looking focused. Go Kev...

It was hard to find a table with lots of good players on it, unlike yesterday. Scattered around I saw Simon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) Trumper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) looking relaxed and Dave Smith the winner of the brighton GUKPT wearing his trademark "fisherman's" hat and looking for all the world like he is just about to pull out a rod and hook himself a few trout. Maybe he is.......

Haven't managed to locate Roland (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=384) De Wolfe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=384) yet but no doubt his table will prove interesting.

Unlike yesterday where only 3 people had fallen before the break I predicted more casualties today. There seem to be a few more mateyboys lurking about amongst the scattered pros, and so far it looks like they will be smashing the pre-break record of three with ease as two people have departed already.

One of those is Bambos Charalambos (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=62) Xanthos (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=62).

Details of the hand are soemwhat sketchy but it seems that bambos had T8, his opponent AJ and after a J 9 x flop, all the chips found their way into the middle! AJ managed to hold and his opponent doubles up. I'm guessing those chips will be moving and shaking about a fair bit.....

We've already lost our first player, Queens against Kings after a re-raised pot and a raggy flop all the money went in.

Nick Slade lost a 4k pot already, when his opponent made a large bet on the river of a Qs Jc 3d 7h 9c board, Nick showed the Jd.

Jim Reid has also lost a couple of pots, first paying of the nut-flush of his opponent to his right, then shortly afterwards, losing another pot to Ks Jc on a Td Js 4s Th 6s board.

Sunny Chattha calls a 175 bet on a 9h 5d 9d board before raising the 400 bet on the 6h turn to 1,100. Both players checked the scaryish 8d river and Sunny revealed 7h 6s for a winning straight.

Just had a pleasant chat with blondite HoldOrFold who is here for the day, and will no doubt be witnessing some action.

There's definitely a higher degree of gamble going on today. Tikay jsut had a word with me and was shaking his head at one particular hand.

"It' a 1k event so serious play obviously. There's a K 5 7 flop. Mateyboy bets surinder raises, reraise, re-reraise and the chips all go in. Now I'm thinking 2 sets. Mateyboy turns over KT, Surinder turns over K5 for 2 pair which holds. This man should be locked up, he's an animal" he says pointing at surinder who laughs.

I waited patiently by Roland De Wolfe to catch some action but he seemed more interested in tucking into his large plate of scampi, chips and peas. It did look rather tasty...

....I'm over at Kev's table and he is up to 13k "Won a few nice pots, going well" was the update so far. While I am there a family pot develops in which 5 people called a 200 preflop riase. The JJ2 one heart flop is checked round. The turn 7h elicits a bet of 700 from one of the shorter stacked players, Ross Boatman passes quickly but he receives a call from one of the other players. The Kh river is pushed by the shorter stacked player who says "You got the flush?" "Yes" replies mateyboy happily. "Good luck" he says as he mucks his cards and departs the table...

Just when you thought Pryian couldn't possibly wear anything more ridiculous than before, he goes and pulls that gem out of the bag...

In a pot with Trevor Reardon, they both checked the turn of a Aspades Tc 9s 2s board before Priyan bet 500 on the Ks river, Trevor called, Priyan showed Td Ts, sadly rivered by Trevor's Ad Js.

"I don't think you'd have got too much out of me on the river anyway," offered big Trev.

It's 50-100 now.

Just been past Rolf (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=726) Slotboom (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=726), I had to double check as his face is almost totally obscured behind shiny shades, GUKPT cap and enormous earphones. The large, bushy ponytail poking out of the back of his cap is the only way to identify him. Well that, and the ever present TicTac box on top of his chips.

As I skirted past Tilkay I congratulated him as his stack seemed to have increased slightly. He told me the story of his stack's growth to 12k.

"Well there's 5 limpers in front of me and i feel terrible limping, i mean i should raise shouldn't I? Anyway the flop comes JQ  x and they all check to me...ooh I'll have a little bet i think... It gets through.... Well now I've got a...well I'm pretty excited anyway....and I raise J4 and everyone folds! Next hand I get JJ, raise it and now I get 2 callers and bet the K high flop. They all fold."

Tikay is anxious to impress on me how he's been pretty laggy.

"Ask Beppe, I've been pretty busy haven't I?"

Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) Greco (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) "Yeh, you played one hand in level one and four hands in level two"

Me: "Well he's upping the aggression then?"

Greco: "Yeh he's scandinavian-esque!"

I pull away from the enjoyable banter to find some other hands.

I see Ross Boatman raising to 400 on the button and the sb reraising to 2150. Ross passes resignedly.

As I leave his table, typically I miss the action on the table, and Ross finds himself getting it in with Aces only to find his opponent with a set. Exit Ross, leaving the tournament devoid of hendon mobsters.....

Surindar Sunar has been rocking and rollin' according to Tikay, very first hand he called a raise with A-Q, called a weak bet on a Q-8-6 board, both checked the 6 turn, and then his opponent bet 500 on the blank river, Surindar made it 1,400. His opponent made it 2,500. Surindar passed, he was shown a well-played quad sixes.

Multiway limped pot, including Kevin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235) O'Leary (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235), Simon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) Trumper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) and Hoss Parkhizar.

Flop:

Kc 2s 4s

Kevin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235) O'Leary (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235) bets 150, Simon (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) Trumper (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=400) calls and Hoss calls. All the others fold.

Turn:

Ahrt

Kevin checks, Simon bets 500, Hoss calls and Kevin calls.

River:

Qd

Kevin checks, Simon checks, and Hoss now bets a big 2,000. About the size of the pot. Kevin passes after a dwell, Simon calls quickly. Hoss shows 5d 3s for the turned straight. Simon flashes the 2d, so I assume he had 2-2 or perhaps A-2.

It looks like 10 casualties at the dinner break exactly matching my prediction for today. Thank thank you autographs later etc.

Anyway self congratulation aside, we don't have the chip counts available just yet although they will be up shortly.

Had dinner with Blondite Redbull, who ihas gently increased his stack to 13k or so. "I like these levels as they play like the deepstacked cash games I'm used to..." He was looking relaxed and composed as he sipped on his glass of red wine and I have a feeling he could do well. I'll keep you updated.

Had a conversation with Tikay and Kev over a cigarette. Kev is on 13,800. "How many have you got Tikay?" asked Kev.

"26k" replied Tikay confidently.

"Like **** you do, you've never seen that many chips in your life!" countered Kev. "I saw your stack you've got about 14k"

"I've got some yellows!" replied Tikay.

"you've got 14k haven't you?"

Long pause..........

"No" said Tikay finally to a chorus of laughter.

"Gotta bluff faster Tikay...." I tell him.

Meanwhile, I ask womble how he was faring..

"My stacks up 43%!" he exclaims proudly. "That's like final tabling for me...."

Nick Persaud was heard explaining how a nice run of cards ( AK on a JQT flop), on a 9 high flop and the odd steal has given him a decent stack.

Rolf Slotboom has swapped his baseball cap for a wooly ski hat now, and was heard urging his neighbour to "show the bluff show the bluff" after his 3k bet wasn't called by the other players in the pot.

On Table 17 there was some allin action. An unraised pot on 75 150 was seen by 4 people.

On a flop of 9h Th Jd, mateyboy 1 who might well be Chris Gavriel, bet 600 into the pot. Mateyboy 2 who might well be Royce Law (He sounds like a streetfighting character) min raised to 1200 at which point Chris immediately reraised to 8000, enough to set Royce in for his last 5.5k or so.

He lifts his glasses and examines the flop again before calling with the mighty 8d Td and being shown KQ for the nut straight.

The turn of 5d gives him hope of a backdoor flush but the river bricks and Royce Law departs to tell his friends Zangief, Ken and M Bison about his "unfortunate" departure.

Matt Tyler has added to his stack, re-raising a 600 initial bet to put a short stack all-in, who duly called with his Qc Qd against Matt's Aspades Ks, spiking a King on the J-6-K-9-3 board. Matt has roughly 6k more than the chip counts I'm about to put up! :D

Kev has lost chips, first he had 8-8 on a 8-6-5 board after 9-7 didn't raise on the flop on the J turn and also decided to just call on the 3 river that put 3 clubs out there. Kev would've done his whole stack, if a raise had come on the flop or turn. Kev then had 3h 4h on an A-A-2-5 board against the same guy only to have another 5 hit the river and Kev's opponent moved all-in. Kev still has 10k though.

That's 10k more that Rolf Slotboom has. Dingdell had said, "It was the most erotic thing she'd even seen," (I only half suspect she was joking) when Rolf kissed his chips before putting them into a pot, which he went on to win. At the break, Rolf had said, "Chrish, I've playedsh two potsh in two hoursh. Whatsh is that like? Shixty hands? I've played two handsh, and I played them both terrible."

After the break, Rolf was all-in on a Ahrt 7c 3h board with Aspades Kd against Ad 7h. "Come now dealer, concentrate. Loadsh of kingsh in the deck, loadsh of kingsh."

Turn:

Td

"Loadsh of kingsh and tensh..."

River:

Qs

And we're down one dutchman.

If you're calling a re-raise with 8h 7h, then 9d 6h 5h isn't a bad flop to hit, especially against Ahrt Ad. This is what Greek Jack did, and not content with that, once all the chips were in the middle, Jack then hit the 4h on the turn to overkill the hand.

Zippy is OUT, Q-T on a Q-high board vs Aces he said with a sigh.

Andy Miles is really short, so short he had to fold Sevens to an UTG limp by Nick Slade which followed by a early position raise. The flop came 8s 3h 7s and Nick check/folded to the raiser who showed Aces. Not Mr Miles' day I'm afraid.

Simon Trumper passes to a 3k bet on the turn of a Kh 4h 9d Js board, his opponent showed King Jack.

Blinds will be 150/300 when we restart in about 5 minutes.

Photos to follow once I get Chris to show me how to get pictures off the camera. Later on he will be giving me advanced lessons in how to tie my shoelaces and do joined up writing too.

Despite my technological incompetence, I did manage to speak to Andy Miles.

"How's it going Andy"
"Hahaha terribly"
"Shall I say you are cautiously optimistic?"
More laughter "If you like!"

Andy is cautiously optmistic....

As I go to see James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) Akenhead (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183), he is deep in conversation with Nick Persaud, so I don't disturb him, other than flashing a bulb in his face briefly. He seems to be holding a stack of about 17k or so and looking very confident. One of the older players is telling James he gave him " a lot of respect there" after James has just picked up a pot. Chips and respect, the man is flying...

Dickie Jones is looking slightly bored, but is involved in an interesting hand in the BB as I arrive.

Both blinds check to mateyboy on the button who bets 225, which is raised by the sb and reraised by Dickie . Button and SB pass. A nice addition to his stack  but the face resting on fist pose remains. I snap a quick and terrible picture of him before a fire alarm causes chaos and I run to the press room to post these pictures before my charred corpse is dragged out of the casino....such is my dedication to the job.

Turns out it was a false alarm anyway but here they are. Please go easy on me, I'm not the world's greatest photographer I must concede!

can u tell deirdre persaud that whoever he has playing his account just knocked me out on stars and they run even better than him (AQ v my AK).

updates on ActionJack, Tim T8MML Blake and Milesy please, and congratuate them on all being below starting stack at the dinner break

Gramps says, "Isn't it past your bedtime?"

Tim -- 9,500
Actionjack -- 15,600
Andy -- 2,000

Tim just told me of a huge pot Chris Gavriel won off Jon Wong, 50k at least. Jon raised up with aces, two hearts came on the flop, but Gavriel waited til the turn to re-raise all-in and then river the heart, which must make him the chip leader now.

Jerome Bradpiece is OUT, card dead for two hours, then Queens into Kings. He has gone to the cash game now.

Billy Ngo is OUT. He held Kd Td on a Kc 9s 7s board vs Nik Persaud's Aspades 6s, the turn was the Ad and the river was 5d to send the Walsall runner-up home.

Andrew Feldman just had one of those, "why why why do I get so much action when I have such a good hand dammit" looks on his face. With the board reading Aspades 5h 8c, D Tanna checked, Mateyboy bet 1,500. Andrew raised to 3,000. D Tanna pushed  for 7,275 total and so did Mateyboy for much less causing Andrew incredible exasperation. He had to call with his Ac 5c and was up against 8d 8s and Ad Qh. The set holding, eliminating matey and knocking Andrew down to around 4,500.

Ian Herbet -- 27.7k

111 left, 14.9k average stack.

As I walk past Micky Wernick, I ask how he's going, secretly knowing the answer won't be great as I glance at his micro stack.

"Not so bad, got at least an ante" he says comically.

He obviously has more than this though as his cut off push is passed round to the big blind who also passes after a long think.

Micky shows AT and increases his stack to just under 2000.....

Simon Trumper is spotted doing a crossword with his neighbour and solving one of the clues to his neighbours delight.....I wonder if that will stop him stealing his blinds later...

James Akenhead looks to have taken a big hit to his stack. Facing a large bet on the river, he eventually folds and appears to be under 10k now....

Kevin O'Leary aka Lovejoy raises a limper to about 850 which is called by the big blind.

The flop comes .

Check. Lovejoy bets 1100 or so which is called.

The turn is the . Check Check.

River a low blank. Check. Lovejoy moves in for his remaining stack of about 6k or so. BB folds.... and kevin adds the 4k pot to his collection of chips.......

Meanwhile the much followed and "cautiously optimistic" Andy Miles pushes his stack in preflop, the other player ums and arrs before saying "I've got to call" and wishes he hadn't as Andy shows AA, his opponent A6 and no shocks happen Andy doubles up to 6k or so.....

Blinds up to 150/300 ante 25

Micky Wernick has reportedly just doubled up to 7k. The whiskered magician never knows when to quit.....

Nick Hicks is MIA.

Ian Herbert raises the button, Andy Miles flat-calls, and then Sonny Ridgewell moves all-in. Herbert calls, and now Andy Miles moves all-in and Herbert hates it, but has to call as it's so little more.

Herbert: 8-8

Miles: T-T

Ridgewell: A-J

Board: A-K-x-8-x

And that, was the case Eight for Ian Herbert, knocking the other two out. The general consensus from the rest of the table is that Andy Miles should've have made the initial push and the Sonny Ridgewell would still be in since Herbert wouldn't have called.

Tikay has won a couple of pots, calling a raise with Qc Jc and hitting a Qd Tc 8c flop quite hard, he then called a small raise with 9h 8h, hit a T-7-6 flop and then manage to extract a few chips from a guy with x-6 when the 6 paired on the turn.

Title: Re: Luton GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance
Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 10, 2007, 11:55:26 PM
Maz Nawab -- 24,000

He just knocked out a short stack with Js Jh against 9s 8s on a Qc 9c 4h board, turn 5s, river Aspades.

Jon Hewston -- 27,000 (now sitting next to Paul Testud)

Damon D'Cruz is up to around 50k having knocked out Matt Tyler, holding 8d 5d, he took a stab at a Ad 7c 7h flop, Matt called. The turn was the gloriously helpful 6d. Now Matt bet and Damon called the river was the 4h, Matt pushed and Damon called. Matt is now  in one of the cash games.

Tikay is OUT, he lost a chunky pot to a guy who made a big call on a dangerous board, (I'm sure Tikay will elaborate more in his blog/thread), he then had Jacks vs Aces and couldn't improve.

78 players left, average just over 20,000.

Chris Gavriel, who was sitting on a big stack after earlier on getting a flush draw in on the turn against his opponent's aces and rivering his heart has just lost his 50k stack by getting it in on the turn of a paired board with an open ended straight draw vs kings.

James Akenhead is OUT. No details as to how just yet....

Kevin Shepherd known to some as Salad Man, has just let me know he has 13,250. He didn't look particularly happy about this but cheered up immensely when he was delivered two toffee lollipops. I hope all this chip counting doesn't mean you've stopped calorie counting now kev......

As I spoke to Kev on his table, the evil bond villain was involved in a pot (Barry Styles is the name he used to register for this comp though)

Stuart Nash made it 900 to go and was called by Blofeld, and both blinds. On a two hearts flop, Nash bet 2200 and was called by Scaramanga but both blinds folded.

The turn was a 9. Check by Nash, check by Jaws.

River 7 and Stuart Nash bet out 3.5k. Goldfinger paused a moment before folding and showing Nash an Ace. Not wanting to be outdone, Nash flashed his opponent an ace too....

1-0 to the good guys :)

Two more levels to go and Micky Wernick got short again.

On a Ac 8d 9h board, Micky checked, Andrew Feldman bet 1.8k, Martin Green called and Micky moved in.

Feldman passed, Martin made the call.

Micky:

9c 8s

Martin:

Ahrt Tc

Turn:

6s for a few extra outs.

River:

Td

And the legend is OUT.

Greek Jack has also gone too.

Womble on 6k or so was seen moving in from UTG. All fold and he picks up the blinds and antes.

As Kev sheltered his now shortish stack from the battery of antes chipping away at it, Alan Vinson was seen grumpily complaining at Nick Persaud leaving the table to speak to someone.

"You're slowing down the game all the time!" exclaimed Alan pointing and gesticulating at Nick and for a moment it looked as though there could be fisticuffs.

"And you were making comments about me raising out of position. None of your business!!!!"

Nick's attempts to defend himself were shouted down so he quietened down.

Rookie, watching the drama unfold with me, had to stop himself laughing as he whispered to me "do you think i should point out he just raised out of position again?"

Jonny Hewston lost a big amount of chips with K-8 vs K-T on a K-J-2 board, the turn and river giving the other player a broadway straight.

Today has been wildly different from yesterday in that, there are lots and lots of huge stacks, in fact we think almost twenty more people started today but we're almost down to the same number as yesterday already, (43).

Nick Slade has joined those on the cash tables which look to be incredibly healthy at the moment.

Title: Re: Luton GUKPT: Day 1B - At A Glance

Many pots now consist of pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass pass OR if you are lucky pass pass pass pass pass pass RAISE pass pass.

A few exceptions include Kev raising from LP after seeing an Ace. When they all folded he squeezed the other which he obviously liked as a pained expression hit his face..."would have been a bloody 2 if I'd checked it before raising.."

Michael Greco bit the dust a short while ago, his AQ losing out coin-flip style to Brett Davies pocket 5s...

Womble is sadly out after grinding his stack slowly upwards by SPLITTING 3 pots in close succession with 77 v 77, TT v TT and AT v AJ, he finally pushed in with KQ, but unfortunately ran his hand into Matt Myford's pocket rockets which held.

The players are now on a break with 48 players left. Kev was elated as he rushed outside for a cigarette. "I just got a walk in the BB! It nearly doubled my bloody stack!"

Average stack is 34,400.

Last level for today will be 400 800 with a 75 ante....

If the final level mirrors yesterday's activity, there should be some pretty hefty action occurring as shorter stacks gamble to return tomorrow with a worthwhile numebr of chips.

Uh, oh, Kev has just appeared in the press room shortly after play has restarted and sadly, KEV IS OUT. I think he'll fill us in on the details but he has explained he "got it in behind, the best way really so I couldn't get outdrawn."

RIP Kev's chips.

I'm afraid Kev is OUT. Kh Th against the pocket tens of Nik (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314) Persaud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=314).

Also gone is a veritable cavalcade of action, Jonny Hewston, who lost most of his chips with Ahrt Jh vs Aspades Kc on a 3c 6c Ks Th Ad board, all-in preflop I'm guessing. He was eliminated shortly afterwards in a multiway pot.

GUKPT Newcastle Winner Maz Nawab is out too. All the chips in by the river of a Qs Ks Ad 7h 8h board with Kc Kd, except Alan Vinson was holding Jd Td to take the pot.

Wow, they're dropping like Ramones here.

George McKeever is gone, Aspades Qd vs Rob Garfield's 8d 8h on an Ahrt 2h 8c 5c 6h board.

David Shelley has gone too, K-J vs Alan Vinson's Fours, somehow missing on the A-T-9-8-2 board.

Hoss Parkhizar is another one, he pushed Jh 9s on a Kh 9c Qd board but ran into D Tanna's Qc Qd, no help on the 8s turn and the 9d gave him trips but gave Yusuf the house.

Kevin O'Leary's stack continues to grow larger....

....that is till he doubles up Paul Jackson to 35,000 or so. Paul's Q8 spiking an 8 on the turn versus Kevin's AQ on a Q high flop.

Surinder is very short but wins two pots with raises preflop uncontested to add 4k to his stack of 7k.

Sunny Chattha lost a few chips when he flopped two pair against a button raiser who turned the nut flush and Sunny was forced to pay-off a bet on the river.

Final hand of the night and after a few limpers, Surindar Sunar makes a big push from the button, the small blind passes threes, Ian Herbert calls in the big blind and Stuart Nash is forced to pass his A-J

Ian Herbert:

Aspades 9h

Surindar Sunar:

Td 4c

Board:

Ts 3s 7h 9s Tc (!)

40 players left today, meaning 83 will return tomorrow at 4pm. A full chip count list will appear before then on this and the Day 2 thread. Until then, I just like to thank Junglecat for coming to update, and I'm sure you'll agree he did a great job.
