Title: Just Booked for Vegas!
Post by: Woodsey on August 13, 2007, 06:11:07 PM
Just took a snap decision about an hour ago and have it all booked to go next Thursday until the following weekend. I'd planned to go to the Barcelona EPT but I didn't manage to qualify and thought I'd just go and play cash games anyway and get a couple of mates to join me for a few days. I was chatting to my mates last night and we had a change of plan and are going to do something better later in the year. I was about to book for Barcelona to go by myself for a few days, but I thought I take a cheeky look at prices to Vegas, turns out its won't cost me much more to there. I can get the flight with airmiles and the hotels are much cheaper than Barcelona.

So I'm all booked up for £700! Flying direct with BMI from Manchester both ways and staying at Bills Gambling Hall (formerly Barbary Coast) can't wait! If anyones going to be over there PM me and we can catch up for a beer or two, I might do a few updates on progress if anyone's interested.

Are airmiles worth bothering with? How many it cost you? £700 include hotel?

Got £25 of tesco clubcard deals, was thinking about saving up airmiles with them...

It cost 5700 airmiles plus £170 odd taxes, plus £550 ish for hotel (not booked with airmiles). If you spend £1-2k per month on your tesco card and shop there regualry you can make quite a bit. I also use my card for work expenses so I can get about 15000 miles per year normally. The way I see it is I'm spending the money anyway so i may aswell use a card that gives me something I want to use for free as a nice present at the end of it. Flights to the closer European destinations are generally no more that 1500 points so even if you can't collect as many points as me you will still be able to get a couple of decent flight somewhere.

Good luck with your trip... I'm sooo envious!

Virgin must go the long way round, it costs 50,000 Virgin Air Miles for a return trip to Vegas... and while I don't have enough for a free flight yet, I'm told the chances of them having a free seat available when you actually want to go are soemwhere between slim and none!

Virgin airmiles have a totally different value than the 'Airmiles' brand that is stand alone from any particular airline. I got a good deal here I'd say 8000 was more typical and when I looked again a few minutes ago the price had gone up to about 7000 for a non-direct flight.

Roughly speaking, 2 return flights with Virgin to Vegas earns you enough for a FREE 3rd return flight :)

Ok these are the places I'm likely to play at based on previous experience, can anyone recommend anywhere else that they found good in the last 6 months or so. I know where all the usual resources are to find out times and places, buy-ins etc, so I'm looking more for good quality places based on peoples experiences. These are in my own order of preference.

Cash- 1/2 and 2/5 mostly, maybe a couple of shots at a bigger game if i'm running well. Bellagio, MGM, Venetian, Caesar's Palace. I'd be particularly interested if anyone had come across any deep stack games at these levels as most are limited to 100 BB's buy in.

Tourneys- $100-$300 buy in range mostly, but will have a pop at 1 or 2 $500's- Venetian, Orleans, Caesar's Palace, Bellagio. I don't mind rebuys but would prefer half decent structures if possible.

TY for any help

I think a lot of strip poker rooms have upped the max buy-ins now... 300 - 500 for 1/2 NL. I'm pretty sure 1 or 2 of them are uncapped... but don't remember which!!

Really the best palce to ask the allvegaspoker.com forum... the locals there will know.

Edit: A quick look on allvegaspoker.com shows Ceasar's as 1/3NL Max $500, 2/5 & 5/10 No Cap and Wynn all NL games are un-capped.
