Title: Assumption: the mother of all...
Post by: snoopy1239 on October 17, 2005, 09:57:57 PM
.... well, you get the idea if you've seen Lock Stock.

Have you ever wrongly assumed that the players on your table think like you?

Down to 6 in the Ladbrokes daily festival final.

$55 entry, 55 players, 5 seats worth $580 available. 6th receives $125.

I'm on the button with 2.8k and in 5th.

The guy before me is the lowest with 2.7k.

Every1 else is miles ahead. The sb has 19k. The bb has 28k.

The lowest chips goes all-in.

I have J2 off suit.

I thought that if I just flatcalled, leaving myself with 100, that the sb and bb (2 chip leaders) would be almost forced to call. The logic here would be that if they both called, not only would they have increased the chances of knocking the lowest chips out, but even if he did win, I'd be sitting there with 100 and practically out of the competition.

At the time this made perfect sense to me and I, foolishly, pressed down on the call button, confident that my plan had no pit-falls.

Yes, I know, kind of amusing.

Anyhow, you may have guessed, the sb and bb didn't recognise my pro (cough) move and briskly mucked fearing that two monsters were out. The bb really didn't want his 28k to be rocked.  ::)

The original raiser turns over KQ off. Obviously I didn't hit and I was left feeling rather silly, with the rest of the table berating my play. I tried to explain why I did it, but there were more woooooshes than snoopy and a joke thread.  ::) You won't believe how hard I tried to convince them that my brainwave (aka. dumb idea) was an intelligent move.

Well, I thought it made sense at the time. However, I also forgot that I was playing on an online table with players that weren't (surprise) exactly the same as me and so probably not thinking along the same lines.

Now is that the most stupid assumption I've ever made or what. Probably, but I don't want to jump to conclusions just yet...

that's why I am so stupid.

I was so busy hatching my plan that I didn't notice that pit-fall.

oopsy daisy.

Snoopy, what were you thinking?

everyone is rocked up...either you beat him and he's out or he beats you and you are down to 100. They qualify either way just by passing!!!!

If I was one of the other four I'd pass AA!!!!!

Im glad you have made that statement Tightend, as this what I was trying to convey the other day, in saying these type of tournys (sattelites, seats up for grabs) are played with very different tactics than a normal tourny. So collusion is not easy to prove. I would too pass AA preflop in that situation, but is it right to pass a hand that you know for a fact is not losing?

Reminds me of a satellite I played in Vegas for the $1000 Orleans jobbie.

6 left, 5 seats available, I raised with 77 when I didn't need to. (On the very next hand a young lady was all in on the BB.) So anyway one guy passess AA to my raise and shows the tourney director who confirmed this to me after. Great fold by him I thought. Bad raise by me. Just no need to get involved. The lady went out next hand.

The 2 guys in Snoopy's scenario were probably thinking exactly the same. With ANY hand.

If i'm one of the big stacks i put you all in(not the other big stack) as i'd be very unlucky if the 2 short stacks split the pot. Even with a loss i'd be comfortable.

With your stack and cards i'd fold and hope a big stacks takes a shot.
