Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Claw75 on August 14, 2007, 11:45:57 PM I remember watching football matches on teletext. Happy days... Did anyone else ever play that live quiz thingy they used to do on the teen pages on Channel 4 teletext? Can't remember the exact details, but you had to call in with your answer. I won £50 once, which was a lot of money in those days! Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: bolt pp on August 14, 2007, 11:49:37 PM I remember watching football matches on teletext. I dont think it is but do you remember that? blinding quiz! like kinboshi said, Saturday afternoon football bet watching ceefax back in the day, great stuff Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Sark79 on August 15, 2007, 10:24:09 AM Bizarre - both from Scotland - both have Ceefax.......I sense a theme here.... carefull btw what is ceefax? It is the text service on your TV ( BBC ). I love it, in 1988 I got a video that had a teletext service and I used it every day as a Kid. In about 1991 I was fortunate enough to get a TV that had teletext with a pause button and coloured buttons :D. Sadly that old TV is dead now, but my current digital TV provides an even better service. Long live ceefax. It is the same sport page as is shown online, however it is easier to navigate around on the TV and it is far quicker. Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Acidmouse on August 15, 2007, 10:27:51 AM Sadly I aint used Ceefax for 3-4 years since I got digitial TV and Sky.
Ohh those were the days 312, 301, 501, 116 :) Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: kinboshi on August 15, 2007, 10:54:55 AM OK - confess, who was into teletext porn:

Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Sark79 on August 15, 2007, 11:45:49 AM Page 302 is the football news now on BBC. I am a sad dweeb who knows all the sport page numbers, I check them about twenty times each day
Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: TheChipPrince on August 15, 2007, 12:06:57 PM Page 302 is the football news now on BBC. I am a sad dweeb who knows all the sport page numbers, I check them about twenty times each day I used too, sky text just aint the same, remember ceefax well, cricket averages 354 if i'm not mistaken! ;) Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: AndrewT on August 15, 2007, 12:38:20 PM The digital text they have now is fantastically rubbish. It says exactly the same stuff as Ceefax used to, except it takes about twenty times as long to come up on screen. Plus all the fun stuff has gone. And it's all on the BBC website anyway.
Best things about Ceefax/teletext Live betting updates on horse/dog races Bamboozle on C4 The computing pages on BBC2 text in the 700s. This was way back in the early 80s when people would download programs from Ceefax onto their BBC Micros. Putting the 888 subtitles up on screen during the 'guess the intro' round on Never Mind The Buzzcocks Total number 1 best thing Digitiser computing pages on C4. Mr Biffo, Ring Sir, the reveals - bliss. Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Claw75 on August 15, 2007, 01:49:20 PM I remember watching football matches on teletext. Happy days... That was cool too though! Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: KingPoker on August 15, 2007, 02:24:09 PM I remember watching football matches on teletext. Happy days... Bamboozle was/is awesome but im sure they had a 10 question sports quiz aswell but i think they stopped doing that, also now and next tv guide was handy aswell, easier than sky's menu, maybe! Title: Re: Ceefax Withdrawal Symptoms Post by: Sark79 on August 15, 2007, 05:40:22 PM I sometimes use the subtitles as well when watching TV shows. I have good hearing and just got into the habit while watching DVD's .
