Title: 1600 x 1200 monitor - cheap?
Post by: Moskvich on August 15, 2007, 08:19:38 PM
Just bought a new 1600x1200 resolution monitor (Samsung 204B) monitor on ebay for £225 (plus £12.50 p+p). I think (hope) it's a good price for a decent poker-playing monitor. At least, a good price for the UK... Is it?

The guy who's selling says he has a few more - if anyone's interested pm me and I'll give you his details.

Oh and no, I don't know him and I'm not spamming lol. Just thought it might be of interest to someone.

Are you sure he hasn't already sold the item offsite and taken a sizeable deposit?

Seems like a very good price.

I see the old CRT monitors.....even up to 21 inch.... for next to nothing now.

Yeah, thought about a CRT but don't have room for it. Glad it seems like a good price - it's an unused 'return'. Seems like a regular and reputable seller.

Pretty good price if you're set on a 'square' monitor. Ebuyer do a Formac(?) for £228 delivered with a 3 year warranty. The Samsung is £297.

However, there's a glut of manufacturing capability for widescreen LCDs which has brought prices crashing down - you can get a 24" 1920x1200 for £250 or a 20" 1680x1050 for £120.

I got a Hitachi 1600x1200 off ebay 2 years ago for £260. It has been great for poker but it has had some glitches (what do you expect for that price). Anyway I have just replaced it 2 weeks ago with a dell 30", 2560x1600. Hmmmmm. And as the Hitachi came with a 3 year warranty I'm going to see if they will do anything for me.

1600x1200 was the best resolution for poker, but now with widescreen monitors so cheap, its as good to get 2 widescreen 17" in portrait next to each other, and you get more screen for doing other things too. Widescreen in landscape doesn't lend itself too well to poker tables though.

You'll love 4 tables on that monitor, no more overlapping ;)

Agreed.  1600x1200 was designed for poker!

;D

OK, cheers for the advice... Am definitely looking forward to being able to see what's going on. Maybe I'll have to get a widescreen as well, didn't realise how cheap some of them are now - 16-tabling here we come...!

I need a new pc for work soon and I was going to get one with a sexy widescreen monitor and swap it for my one at home :D
