Title: The Helpful people at Sky poker?
Post by: Newmanseye on August 18, 2007, 01:10:04 AM
I was sitting at home this evening, not playing warcraft for a change, All was still, Kids were in bed, Wife was in a huff and there was sod all on the telly, I decided to have a punt at a small stakes tourney on sky poker, I registeres for the next one available, £3 stake or something of that ilk, and I go and make the Money, or so i thought.

It seems i registered for a satalite and i won a seat in to the Primo tourney later on this evening (18/08/07),  So now realising that I am busy i unregister and see that no money goes back to my account, So i check on my accont status for transactions and see that i was inregistered but the registration prize value was not sent to my account.

After a few moments of refreshing screen i decide to telephone the people at sky and find out whats happened to my "winnings", i was duly informed that if you unregister after wining a satalite that  you dont get the funds, or any sort of recompence, Sky simply Keep the money!

I was a bit annoyed but the guy i had on the line was pretty nice about things and tried to help me out by entering me in to another comp, but when am i gonna know when the fancy takes me again?

After a lot of toing and frowing the fella on the end of the phone tells me that he is not allowed to give me a refund but he will help me out in this situation and send me the stake money to my account.

Now it seems to me that whilst i got someone helpful on the phone, other people dont and surely sky should impliment a system similar to stars, whereby you can use tourney $  or £'s as it is in this case.  It would make life easier on us punters as well as their staff who have to put up withus calling them at 12:45.

I must admit what bothered memost was the fact that sky did not tell me i was not getting a refund untill i phoned them, and it seems like backdoor profiteering to me, how many people have done something similar and lost their money?

Has anyone else come accross this with other sites?

This seems a bot odd Billy. I'll send it to the Sky Cardroom peeps for comment, & let's see what they say.

It may be Monday before we get a reply, as I'll send it to the Big Suits & I don't imagine they work weekends.

"......wife was in a huff...."

Can we assume Lady Huff does not read blonde? ;)

Actually my wife reads blonde quite often, usually on my account, she's a lurker not a poster, and i was in the bad books for spending too much time online playing Warcraft ( the modern equivilent of trains to you Tikay) so alas she took said huff and left me to apease myself.

Cheers for forwarding it on Tony, Like i said i got what I was due, my concern is other players who may not be as dilligent.

Most sites don't do a T$ W$ thing. So, although most people agree it's definetly something everyone should be doing, it's unlikely that they'll implement that. There should have been a message stating though that "You cannot unregister from this tournament as you qualified for it through a sattelite".

At the end of the day though, I'm sure there will be something in the Sky poker  T&C about this and it is your obligation to read them. could you reregister for the tourney itsself?

I could have re registered for the tourney but what would have been the point?  I cant make th tourney this evening due to warcraft commitments, and thats my point really, people have things come up a lot and there should be an impementation system to allow people that have rightfully earned their place to take their winnings if they can.

I got my winnings but i doubt i would get them if the same thing happened again.

I agree that a W$ T$ system is ideal and it's one of the reasons I prefer stars over justabout every site. Even a ticket for a future tourney would be nice but most sites don't have that and it's your responsibility to know this when you signed up. I would be delighted if I got my winnings from Sky after making such a mistake as they really don't have to do it.
