Title: The Biggest Bet I've ever made
Post by: The Camel on August 19, 2007, 02:32:49 AM
Manchester United are stunning value to beat City tomorrow.

Even money (Betfair) is an absolute gift.

Rooney and Ronaldo out? No worries, they just bring in £40 mill of talent in Tevez and Nani.

The price is total overreaction to United's seemingly poor start to the season (although come the end of the season I don't think draws v Reading and Pompey will look too shabby) and City's two wins... (against very very moderate opposition). Last season they would have been 1/2.

I think United are genuine 4/7 shots. And I've acted accordingly... I've had my biggest ever bet. I will be watching from here.... ;scarymoment;

Already taken 2.02. Was speaking about this game earlier to a few people and said i expected them to be around the same mark, 4-7 8-13ish, price is astonishing really and you are right a huge overreaction to a couple of results.

Agreed 100%, even money on Man U is amazing.  Ok, they've not had a great start, but this is Man U we are talking about.  They will finish in the top 3 and winning today will be part of the plan

Well what a game, man ciy are not lookin strong up front but their defence was rock solid.

Looks like we could have another great schmeichel on our hands (not that he had to do much)

He was lucky Richards and Dunne were playing, otherwise he'd have been picking the ball out of the back of the net a few times.

Richards was outstanding.

might get a game mid week?

Richards won't get in before the usual suspects, even if he is the in-form player.

Rob Styles played out of his skin in the second game of the afternoon...

I've got to agree,Richards was outstanding(as was Dunne).

Now he his playing centre half i think he could develop into a really top class player.

Agreed (although it could be argued he already is!).

So that should put him firmly in third on McClaren's list.  Or maybe 4th after King as well...

Can anyone lend me the price of acup of tea please?

I am only hoping that your previous biggest bet was £2.50, but thinking this has hurt more than a single outer on the river.

Only just seen this.
I dont usually have any footie bets until half a dozen games in, teams always need time to adjust at the start of the season.
However had a small bet on city as manure had struggled to score in their opening games. Can't believe so many people thought utd were a good bet.
On the other hand there will be better odds available on their next couple of games.

Indeed, leave the thread to die now. The only thing worse than losing money is someone rubbing it in your face.

PS, not a dig at you chip prince, just stating a fact and hope it can die down now!

Its a subjective thing anyway, Im sure the Camel has a bankroll big enough to have his biggest bet and still be able to bet.

Nothing is meant by my reply above, its only light hearted humour... Surely if Camel has posted on an internet forum to the world about having his biggest bet ever, when it goes wrong, surely he can expect some good natured banter?

No? Ok, my bad, let the thread die...

I had 10 grand on Utd at 2.02. My average bet on a football match is a monkey... and if I really think it's a huge value bet I will have 1-2 grand on.

The reason I posted it was I thought others might be interested in what I thought was the best value bet I've ever had on a football match. I would certainly look seriously at the betting of a game if someone else posted they had placed their biggest ever bet.

As it happens I laid half of my bet back at 1.87 about 5 minutes before City scored. From years of experience I have found that the market overreacts to a team dominating in the first part of the game.. the price should drift whatever is happening on the pitch (except for a goal or a sending off obv).

Having said that, I still believe it was an outstanding bet. I reckon if these two teams played under the same conditions 100 times, United would win about 2/3 of the games.

I wouldn't have made if the post if I didn't expect the piss taken out of me if United lost.. Try and outdo Tony G if you dare  ;snoopy'sguns;

That's not a good thing for your bet though?!  Your betting at little more than evens.

Keith

I saw your post, fired up Betfair, placed a moderate wager on United. The 2.0 was a good price and I didn't know it was on offer until you piped up. It was value, thanks for the tip. So what that it didn't come through, that's not your fault. Thanks for the pointer, keep 'em coming.
