Title: WPT at The Bellagio
Post by: tikay on April 20, 2005, 12:01:15 AM
Dave jest sent me a text, he is trundling along comfortably now.

Says he was sat next to Toby Maguire (who he?) most of the day, & rated his game.

Dave had an awful scare very first hand of the game, when he flopped top two pair & was lucky to lose "only" a third of his stack But he is back up to 55k now.

Imagine starting a comp with 50k? Makes me giddy just thinking about it.

Post by: tikay on April 20, 2005, 02:44:17 AM
A break? Nah, I tried retirement, but packed it in. I wanna die in harness.

And what's wrong with "it's the journey, not the destination?". Or being "Tea-Total"?

But congrats on a terrific performance on Sunday night Stu, I was made up for ya.

Thanks for for the congrats Tikay, I like the the journey piece you wrote there was tear :'( running down my face face after reading such a master piece. But I tell you what I will buy you a beer in Belfast and maybe you will see what youve been missing all these years ;)

Post by: tikay on April 20, 2005, 03:04:43 AM
Missing? I packed up drinking, I fear to admit, before you were even born.

I struggled to hold my drink as a teenager, went on an almighty bender on my 21st, and thought "never again". And I ain't missed it one bit.

But on a good night, I'll partake of a Tizer even a Red Bull now & then.......but given a choice, give me a cuppa tea any day.

Now, got an update from Dave Colclough, give me 30 secs.....

Title: Re: WPT at The Bellagio

El Blondie is on the same starting table as Scotty who was the overnight chip leader.
Scotty has the button and Dave is on the BB.  - no preasure then!

Mad Marty is also on the table

Mad Marty goes all in 2nd hand with pocket 4's and is called with JJ. But he gets very lucky and and flops quad's! He is now up to 70K.

344 players in the field.

Title: Re: WPT at The Bellagio
Post by: Mrs C on April 20, 2005, 08:45:12 PM
To Dave's Left there an invisible man, he was there yesterday too, he has 30K left.

Title: Re: WPT at The Bellagio
Post by: tikay on April 20, 2005, 09:58:01 PM

They are on the day's first break now.

Dave Colclough has 56k

simon Trumper is struggling with 6k - come on Simon!

Mad Marty has 72k, afer looking dead & buried earlier with 44 against JJ, but catching quads.

And Spioderman has 90k.

More as it comes through....

Barny 65k

Jioe Beevers 107k

Noah Boeken 90k

John Gale 20k

Noel Furlong 50k

Paul Maxfield 100k

Mad Marty has a setback. First hand back after the break he has AQ against JJ, but fails to hit - he's back down the fierld now with about 45k.

Title: Re: WPT at The Bellagio
Post by: tikay on April 20, 2005, 10:09:29 PM
Invisible Man - 25k. This is the guy - or lady - who failed to show up either yesterday or today, & has gradually blinded away. Course, Dave is not taking adavntage of this.....

Maybe it was Paul Phillips - he became a father yesterday for the first time, to a girle thing, Ivy Phillips.

No, not yet. Dave is texting me from the table. I don't think it's fair on him to ask too many questions right now, & I know you'd agree with that. But the second I get texts from him, you will have them on here.

But I bet you ain't far wrong. Scotty maybe tried to take liberties with our man, but he's TOO GOOD........

I have a good feeling about this comp..........

Prize Pool?

It's about $2,800,000 to the winner. Only US Dollars though. 2nd $1,700,000, 3rd nearly $900,000, through to $113,000 for tenth. Money goes down to an incrediible 100th place! 51st to 100th all get $30,000.

Handy enough.....

Thanks Simon, much appreciated.

I will put a post up now telling the blondeites that they can have a look at how the tourney went from your perspective by taking a look at your diary on www.sportinglife.com right away.

Oddly enough, I have just been the subject for an interview with Paul for the same site, & that may well be up on in the next few days. Why me? No idea!

I am dropping you a private e-mail about another matter.

Tough luck in the biggie fella, but you gave of your best. That'll do for me.

Sorry, the only news I got is Dave's closing chip count - a massive 380k!

If I get any news on Paul Maxfield, I'll post it.

Good luck Dave!

As far as I can tell from assorted sites DC is third chip leader behind Alan Boston and Paul Testud, closely followed by the likes of Scotty Nguyen, Michael Mizrachi and Juha Helppi.

Towards the end of the day a short stack moved all in with KK, Blondie calls with AdKd, flop comes QQ10 with two diamonds, DC makes his flush on the turn, the river is a blank and DC's up to the $350-360K area.

Do they play again today?

If so, & provided Dave don't mind doing what he did yesterday & texting me updates from the table, we will do updates again tonight exactly as we did last night.

Hopefully, a few very late nights in prospect......

But so we don't get too carried away, & put too much pressure on Dave, he has 380,000 chips right now, & is chip leader. Average for a 10 seat Final would be about 2,2 MILLION - that's AVERAGE!

Well put Tony
I have 1.5% of the chips - even on the most optimistic side, I am at least a 40-1 shot to win the whole thing.
And I am not chip leader, there has been a mistake somewhere

A more detailed summary of the last two days...
On day 1 (the second day 1) I drew an excellent starting table with few 'names'.
Unfortunately on the third hand of the day I raised with KhQh and got three callers including Paul Testud from the big blind.
The flop came KdQd and a black 4 , followed by a black 2 and a black 5
Paul Testud had started with a 36 diamond flush draw, and gutshotted an invisible straight on me - I lost 15,000 chips.
I managed to work my way back to 75,000 with an hour to play.
Unfortunately, I was a little lose in the last hour (trying to take advantage of an excellent table) and got whittled back to 56,000 by end of play

Chip leader, chip 50th, it matters not. You have to be at the table to eat. And you have put yourself in a position where you COULD go a long way. That's all the day 1 & 2 objective is, surely.

We are all immensely proud of you, & all the other Brits. But yes, let's not get too excited yet awhle.

Sounds like you were lucky, or did well, to "only" lose 15k on that opening hand. So Testud stayed in hoping to catch his flush, & found the straight instead - damn lucky, those French!

I arrived on Day 2 to find I had another excellent table with only Scotty Nyghun to fear.
Unfortunately I just couldnt get going or find any playable situations for the first half of the day and was still at 50,000
Half way thru the days third level I finally hit a bit of a rush
I limped under the gun with KK hoping to re-raise. Two other limpers didn't give me opportunity but I was rewarded with KJ6 board, and I found someone with AK - nice ! 80,000
10 minutes later I raised with AJ suited on Scotty BB and was called by him. He led out on a JJ10 flop. I called.
The turn was a scarey 9. He led out I called. The river a 4 he checked I made a small bet and he called - 115,000 !

Two hands later and it is my BB - everyone passes around to Scotty's button and he duly raises.
I have a deep stack now and am on a rush, so I call with 89
The flop is 10,J rag, and I check
He bets two thirds of the pot and I call
The turn is a Queen, bingo.
I check raise him for 30,000 and I nearly fell off my chair when he called.
The river paired the 10 and I gave him the weak dwell up.
I checked and he duly bet 60,000
As they say, no guts , no glory, so I called, and he said 'you're hand good, good call' and mucked his hand
Wow - 230,000

A while later Scotty limps under the gun, and the player inbetween us limps. I find 6,8 of hearts and join the limping party (no one is going to raise scotty withough a hand)
The flop was 669 , 2 , K and scotty did another 70,000 to me with what I can only assume was Aces
320,000 !

I hovered in this area for most of the next levels and was down to about 290k with ten mins left.

The final hand I got involved in I guess I played bad (I have a tendency in the last hour of the day)
I had had several run ins with Thomas 'thunder' Keller - check raising him - and scotty had beaten him up to
He was down to 75,000 and I limped under the gun with AK diamonds
He raised to 7000 (he is the most regular raiser on the table, and is steaming a little)
I re-raise to 27,000 and oops he moves all in
It is 48,000 to call and I know the best I can hope for is Queens.
Anyway I am looking at better than 2-1 so I reluctantly call, and he shows me KK
I miss the Ace but fortunatley I hit 3 diamonds !

381000 !!!
