sorry, Fender Stratocaster, Black with a chrome scratch plate and white binding (very unusual for Fenders) the fret board is a dark wood which is also very uncommon for Fenders. The Amp is a Marshall TSL100 with two cab which is basically a top of the range stack easily up to the job of a world tour.

Wasn't necessarily thinking about that much detail, just thought it's be nice for peole to share what their favourite things were

Ok it's 1 of 2 things for me.

Either a replica of Charlamagne's sword that i have, thats bloody cool!!

Or my commercial pilots licence, which i suppose isnt really a possesion as i cant hold it! (other than the little blue book it comes in)

So if it has to be a possiesion then i go with the sword, if it can be representitive then the licence.

I'm not much of a one for material things so you have narrowed the field quite a bit, but my most prized possession is this little peice of land where I can continue to live the way my ancestors have done for generations

where I can park my caravans without fear of someone throwing a building brick through my window while my children are in bed, and where people accept me for what I am

Where when the mood takes me, I can hang my great grandmothers cast iron frying pan on the kettleprop to cook home cured bacon over an open fire while I tell my grandchildren tales of my youth as they warm their hands and squint against the smoke in the twighlight

Where I can get up at daybreak to watch my favorite mares newborn foal struggle to stand for the very first time and then, as if guided by some unseen hand, find its way to it's mothers teat, where in the stillness of the morning, I can hear that little un horse like noise she makes deep in her throat as she relaxes and lets her milk down

Where I can take pleasure in a million little every day things like this that are a part of a way of life that I can pretend, at least for one more generation, isn't really dying

Apart fromt he fact that my post now makes me look horrid <g>.

Red, you are lucky, I have to listen to my mum's tales about stuff like that, as I am the first of my family to live all their life in a house.

We have a flat roof, which my mum takes comfort from as it sounds like being in a caravan in the rain, apparently.

Live your life and love it, my generation is the generation that lost it. Even my surviving siblings all lived the caravan life before me (i'm the youngest by 5 years in my family).

Started collecting records in the 50's, I have got many classic 78's, 45's and Album's.

I am shortly going to destroy the lot in my personal protest to E-BAY. (gonna be one very expensive bonfire)

Well Red has killed this thread a treat - what a post that is!

My huimble offering would be.....

A gold ring that my Dad left me. He'd had it since he was 21, & it had never been off his finger. I've had it almost 25 years, & it's never been off my finger in all that time. There'a a helluva weird story attached to that ring, but it's not really Poker Forum material.

My collection of books. It began with Timeform Racehorses of 1975,  & I evetually collected the entire set.Since then, it has grown to cover a huge range of subjects, & is pretty eclectic. It's all non-fiction, bar a handful.

My two cats, Charlie & Angell. That's a bit sad, but my sell-by date as to the opposite sex appears to have long gone. We all sleep together, but it's not quite the same.......

Well, there's this watch my Dad's mate gave to me, he told me the story of the watch. I'd never want to lose it after that story. Anyway, here it is, exactly as he told me:

Quote

Hello, little man. Boy, I sure heard a bunch about you. See, I was a good friend of your Daddy's. We were in that Hanoi pit of hell over five years together. Hopefully, you'll never have to experience this yourself, but when two men are in a situation like me and your Daddy were, for as long as we were, you take on certain responsibilities of the other. If it had been me who had not made it, Major Coolidge would be talkin' right now to my son Jim. But the way it worked out is I'm talkin' to you, Butch. I got somethin' for you. [The Captain pulls a gold wrist watch from his pocket] This watch I got here was first purchased by your great-granddaddy.

It was bought during the First World War in a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee. It was bought by private Doughboy Erine Coolidge the day he set sail for Paris. It was your great-granddaddy's war watch, made by the first company to ever make wrist watches. You see, up until then, people just carried pocket watches. Your great-granddaddy wore that watch every day he was in the war. Then when he had done his duty, he went home to your great-grandmother, took the watch off his wrist and put it an ol' coffee can. And in that can it stayed 'til your grandfather Dane Coolidge was called upon by his country to go overseas and fight the Germans once again.

This time they called it World War Two. Your great-granddaddy gave it to your granddad for good luck. Unfortunately, Dane's luck wasn't as good as his old man's. Your granddad was a Marine and he was killed with all the other Marines at the battle of Wake Island. Your granddad was facing death and he knew it. None of the other boys had any illusions about ever leavin' that island alive. So three days before the Japanese took the island, your 22-year old grandfather asked a gunner on an Air Force transport named Winocki, a man he had never met before in his life, to deliver to his infant son, who he had never seen in the flesh, his gold watch.

Three days later, your grandfather was dead. But Winocki kept his word. After the war was over, he paid a visit to your grandmother, delivering to your infant father, his Dad's gold watch. This watch. This watch was on your Daddy's wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp. Now he knew if the gooks ever saw the watch it'd be confiscated. The way your Daddy looked at it, that watch was your birthright. And he'd be damned if any slopeheads were gonna put their greasy yella hands on his boy's birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hid something. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you.

I did have it cleaned though ;)

I Love it when Red gets serious!!

Mine is a book of Oscar Wilde's play Salome.  It is a second edition from 1912 (i know its not a first edition but i am easily pleased) that i picked up from a tiny little book shop in South Africa.  Sold to me buy a sweet nutty old lady for the equivalent of about £2.  It's not just the sweet smell that only really old books have but everytime i pick it up it sends me back to that little old shop and that exact moment in time.   And i wish i had his mind.

An odd thing that Chili says there - "the smell of old books". I have some "first editions" from a hundred years or so ago, & I just LOVE the smell they emit when you open them. Weird, but true. Guess there are worse things to go round sniffing.
