Once you have confessed anonymously, you may continue with your sinful life of Scrabbling. ;pokergods; Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Ironside on August 22, 2007, 07:54:16 AM WTF are you on about?

It really gets on my nerves when people come up with these bizarre words that i know they don't know. I'm here by starting the scrabulous code of honour sytem. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: KingPoker on August 22, 2007, 09:25:48 AM Seeing as it impossible for me to start a game with anyone because i think it will be an easy game, the only one im truly guilty of is at times using the refrsh button when knowing that unless they have taken less than 2 seconds to put a word in, i am wasting my time.
Sigh, too many cheats in this world! Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Colchester Kev on August 22, 2007, 09:34:58 AM Ha, I know why I am behind with my scrabble. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: AndrewT on August 22, 2007, 09:35:19 AM I stopped playing Scrabulous when I discovered the location of the all-conquering scrabble cheat site - some of the plays I'd seen had appeared a little too good to be true.
Here's Charlie Brooker talking about Scrabulous - http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,,2142451,00.html (http://www.guardian.co.uk/Columnists/Column/0,,2142451,00.html) Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: kinboshi on August 22, 2007, 09:50:10 AM It's rigged a tell ya!
lol cheataments Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Laxie on August 22, 2007, 11:15:10 AM I stopped playing Scrabulous when I discovered the location of the all-conquering scrabble cheat site - some of the plays I'd seen had appeared a little too good to be true. Didn't even know there was a board like that out there...just thought I was rubbish at the game. rotflmfao I did resort to finding a word generator to help out, but it doesn't tell you where to put anything...just a help when you're really stuck for a word with a rack of rubbish letters. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Ginger on August 22, 2007, 01:04:02 PM Well this thread has kinda killed off playing the game for me, with people using anagram programs and scrabble solvers what is the point?!
I may as well just play the pc! Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Colchester Kev on August 22, 2007, 01:06:29 PM LOL keep playing me, im so crap i will keep your stats +ev .... and I never cheat.
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Laxie on August 22, 2007, 01:09:30 PM I just checked out that board thingy, and to be honest...it would do me head in to be typing all those letters in for each person I'm playing! rotflmfao
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: HOLDorFOLD on August 22, 2007, 01:30:56 PM I use the dictionary bit on the site and often look at the two letter words bit that is on there as well - had a bit of a shock with my first game on scrabulous and saw xi placed - I was like what the hell is that! lol.
I'm always refreshing in the wee hours of the morning but the only person likely to be online and playing is Snoopy - can you have more than one game with the same person running??? I'm in need of more nocturnal people to start games with ;D Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Claw75 on August 22, 2007, 01:31:54 PM I think the stark voting options make it look worse than it is. How many of us can honestly say we haven't used the two letter word list to see where to slot things in, or checked to see if we can add an 'e' on to the end of a word, even if the result is something we've never heard of? To outright cheat would just be a waste of time and no fun at all.

To outright cheat would just be a waste of time and no fun at all. Never cheated on it. I put letters on the board itself to see if the word is accepted, but that's it (and that's not cheating). Usually, it isn't a word though! Xi is though, and Qi (i think). Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Ginger on August 22, 2007, 01:55:54 PM Looking at the 2 letter word list can hardly be cheating, the actual scrabble board comes with one...
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: snoopy1239 on August 22, 2007, 03:36:08 PM I don't mind use of the dictionary, it's when people crush the game with 7 letter words that I've never heard of that I sigh and ask what the point is.

Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: matt674 on August 22, 2007, 04:38:57 PM Never cheated on it. I put letters on the board itself to see if the word is accepted, but that's it (and that's not cheating). no - but if you did it in a real game and you were challenged by your opponent and it transpires that the word does not exist then you lose the points and your turn. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: kinboshi on August 22, 2007, 04:54:35 PM Never cheated on it. Yep - but that's in the rules of scrabulous. In a real game of scrabble people can't sod off to anagram sites and cheat! Well they could...it would just be more difficult. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: matt674 on August 22, 2007, 04:58:15 PM one of the reasons why i've never bothered to try playing scrabble online :D
you'll be telling us online poker is rigged next ;) Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: kinboshi on August 22, 2007, 04:58:40 PM one of the reasons why i've never bothered to try playing scrabble online :D you'll be telling us online poker is rigged next ;) It is. Isn't it? Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Claw75 on August 22, 2007, 05:29:36 PM there's always the option of a challenge game which takes away the dictionary.
I think the only way to resolve it once and for all is to have a heads up scrabble challenge at the next blonde bash :)up Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: snoopy1239 on August 22, 2007, 05:32:03 PM To be honest, I think I've detected who are cheating as their game has suddenly improved.
Tighty's been crap throughout, so I know he's not cheating. I play everyone on my friend list that used scrabulous. I have handed out some absolute tonkings and recieved some too. often off the same people. I'm still loving it. keep the challenges flying Blonde has some very stronger scrabblers Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Junior Senior on August 22, 2007, 07:49:34 PM all of the above!
i reckon that AdamM is a cheat - keeps beating me up! Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Robert HM on August 22, 2007, 08:15:47 PM That solver thing is awful, it makes a mockery of the game. I have had "help" sometimes, but still lose. OK, here's a vow, no more! Meet Mr "3 letter"
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Laxie on August 22, 2007, 08:22:33 PM Of we go then...3/4 letter word marathon!!! lol
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Robert HM on August 22, 2007, 08:28:10 PM Of we go then...3/4 letter word marathon!!! lol and I'm starting with you, however I suprised myself: 4 letters Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Robert HM on August 22, 2007, 08:28:50 PM all of the above! i reckon that AdamM is a cheat - keeps beating me up! I'll improve your stats for you. Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Laxie on August 22, 2007, 08:43:35 PM 4 letters...and the word 'porn' rotflmfao Followed quickly by my reply... 'prom' We're on a roll Mr. Man! lol
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: TightEnd on August 22, 2007, 09:04:54 PM To be honest, I think I've detected who are cheating as their game has suddenly improved. Tighty's been crap throughout, so I know he's not cheating. definitely not Even when I used the anagram solver I lost, so I went back to being crap and honest Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Robert HM on August 22, 2007, 09:20:20 PM 4 letters...and the word 'porn' rotflmfao Followed quickly by my reply... 'prom' We're on a roll Mr. Man! lol I was on a 3 letter plan but with OPRN, it had to get longer Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Laxie on August 22, 2007, 09:34:27 PM Using no more than 4 letters is fair enough...and I still managed a 50 point word with only 2 letters. This new style of scrabble is fun. rotflmfao
Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: Claw75 on August 23, 2007, 12:03:30 AM OK - here's what I do. I'd be interested in views on whether people think it's cheating or not. Say I've got some obvious word endings in my rack - ing, ier, iest I will play about with the other letters and come up with things that seem like they might be words, but aren't ones I've heard off. If I type them into the dictionary and it comes up green, I play it. Good example of this just now in a game against Adam M - I had ISTGORS, with a free E on the board. Once I'd taken away and IST to make a word ending with the E, I looked at what I had left and wondered if 'gorsiest' was a valid word. Bingo. So I played it. It's not a word I know or would use.
Cheating or not? Title: Re: Scrabulous Confession Box Post by: snoopy1239 on August 23, 2007, 06:06:59 AM OK - here's what I do. Cheating or not? I wouldn't use the word cheating, but I would think that method was a bit pointless. An anagram generator does exactly what you described above, but quicker, so there isn't much difference really. I will confess to checking up three or four letter words that I hope are real and checking ones that I think are words, but when it comes to a seven letter word that will basically crush the game, I'm not overly keen on placing something that is obviously attained via total trial and error. A no 7-letter word rule might be worthwhile as they are awarded so many points. That'd sort out the men from the boys! ;D I remember playing something like this a few years back although it was more like a cross between scrabble and othello. It was played in real time and you were allowed something like 30/45 secs per move. Think it was called Wordox but the site I played it on is no more :( |
