Title: London help please
Post by: Ironside on August 22, 2007, 06:12:35 PM
can anyone that knows the area around the vic casino please let me know of any hotels in the area that have wheelchair access

i know of the hilton and the marriot but i am not paying the £200-£350 a night they were wanting

so if anyone knows anything in the area that is a little more affordable can you please let me know

It depends on how close you're looking for (and whether they have any rooms at their cheaper rates when you need it) - but I've had a quick look at this site - http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/find.php (http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/find.php)

Initially I've come up with these -
http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/quality-crown-hotel-paddington.hotel (http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/quality-crown-hotel-paddington.hotel)
http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/park-plaza-sherlock-holmes.hotel (http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/park-plaza-sherlock-holmes.hotel)
http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/the-mandeville.hotel (http://london-hotels.hotels-london.co.uk/the-mandeville.hotel)

But you could try playing around with the advanced search and the locations to see if you can find anything else.

Just done a search.  What a load of crap in the results.  Sites that claim to provide listings of accessible hotels in London.  Shocking sites, and nothing substantial.  I can imagine it's a right pain in the arse.

they are about the same price as the hilton and marriot

Have you tried the Moneysupermarket / travel?

Try Travelodge, they are very good value & usually wheelchair-accessible, as are Days Inn.

Don't worry about the TV, both Travelodge & Days Inn have them. Bring a big suitcase.

I stopped outside an Easy (Jet) Hotel the other day in Earls Court....it seemed to have a wheelchair lift outside. Rooms start at £25 it said !!!

A cab to the Vic would be about £15/20 oneway.

there is a days in at Hyde Park Corner I believe.....

Is the Vic the casino just at the bottom of edgeware road ?

if so, then they are minutes apart.

ok now if i am arriving in heathrow what would be the best way to get to the hotel (avoiding the £50 taxi)

depends what kind of usurious taxi driver you get, I used to get a taxi from Liverpool street station to prescott street all the time,  which is about a 1/2 mile walk at most, and sometimes they managed to scam me for a £6/£10 fare, giving it the patter that only london cab drivers can give you. Granted I was a pretty easy mark, so let that enter your considerations.

heathrow express is fully wheelchair accessible. and it takes you right into paddington, which is handy for the casino.
