Title: A Downward Spiral
Post by: snoopy1239 on August 27, 2007, 01:06:39 AM
The Grosvenor Brighton Main Event only took 10 runners. Are these festivals on the way out?

APAT + two brighton festivals + EPT starting tuesday + millions of festivals next month was probably the cause.

If the players are the same as when I used to play there they probably split it 9 ways.

we've discussed this in a big thread a while ago...the schedule is simply too crowded (so much that there's isn't a free date in 2007 for bb5), so the thin end of the wedge is the non-added value/ non GUKPT/GBPT/EPT festivals..especially away from the big poker catchment area venues such as Walsall/Blackpool etc

This  - 10 runners at the Grosvenor Brighton Main Event - was very easy to predict, & was always gonna happen.

For those not aware, there are two Poker Venues in Brighton - the Grosvenor, & the Rendezvous. And they BOTH ran a Festival this week, with Main Events clashing. Hard to believe, but true.

The Rendezvous Main Event was clearly better supported, as 16 made it through to Day Two, including one Chopper Flush. 16 way chop, anyone?

That aside, how bizarre to have two Festivals in the same Town in the same week. The two Venues are about a mile apart.

Another point is that there were no online sats for Brighton Grosvenor. Blue Square dont want to detract from the GUKPT....but their casinos that run these "other" festivals are going to suffer. If they want to compete against Rendevous (and vice versa !).....online sats (with some added value) would help.

Hardly worth getting out of bed for.
Just do a deal on hand one. Based on height or something. Then go down the pub.

The Gutshot Main Event was sold out... as per usual. Is this simply due to location? Would the Grosvenor Brighton event have attracted more if it was the same structure? ie. A £500 No Limit Hold'Em Freezeout with 20k chips and 90 minute levels.

Don't forget,

Torquay held the Golden Sands last week.

Players need to re-charge their batteries and/or lick their wounds. Special promos are the order of the day.

Gone are the days, even though the venue is excellent, the players will not just turn up without a carrott or two.

The lack of common sense in those organising tournaments is mind boggling.  I commented a couple of weeks ago that Gala have scheduled the final of the GBPT for the same week as Amsterdam, one of the most popular events of the year.

Is there a particular reason why everyone went to the Rendezvous instead of the Grosvenor?

Mind you, Amsterdam is not in the same town.

So any idea why they'd want to try and compete by hosting their festival on the same week, lol?

Grosvenor Casinos, the land that Management Consultancy discovered, and common sense forgot.

Occasionally.

You can park for free at The Rendezvous, right on the front of the Casino, & they even Valet park for you. It's a hike from any Car Park to the Grosvenor, then another route march to the small cardroom on the 2nd floor.

Rendezvous Brighton is a Premier League Cardroom, right up there with G-Luton, Grosvenor Walsall, Broadway & Aspers.

Grosvenor Brighton, with due respect, is not. Scheduling Fessies against each other, no matter who's idea it was, is just plain daft, & sets off the "poker is dying" scaremongers.

Supply & Demand will sort it out.

Tony, thee's a carpark right under the grosvenor casino, with a lift up to the playing area.

Even so the randezvous beats it hands down as a venue.

seems obvious to me (although i am pissed) that the rendevouz deliberately scheduled its fessie
to coincide to pull punters away from its immediate competition . no?
seems like a good plan.

If they schedule their event for another day, they don't have to pull any punters away.

Yes, but The Grosvenor Car Park is generally full. There is ALWAYS free space at the Rendezvous.
