Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 28, 2007, 11:14:11 AM :hello:
Welcome to Barcelona for the start of Season 4 of the EPT. Play begins here at 5pm (4pm UK time). I believe the structure has been modified slightly, and now includes the 500/1000 level just to make it even more sick. An additional day has also been added so that the final table will get a full day to itself. The tournament is capped at 600 runners and it looks as though we'll probably reach that number. If there's anyone you wish us to follow, please let us know on the interactive thread. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 03:48:15 PM Well, we're set up in the bar/press room which was the scene of our update last year, perched on some kind of sofa using a succession of small, round coffee tables as desks. It looks like an hour in advance just isn't enough to bag a proper table - I didn't think it was possible for the press to become more numerous, but multiply they have, and the pretty much guaranteed-sellout crowd is going to be thronged by comparable numbers of media. That won't, of course, be a problem until three days from now - expect each Day One to have around 300 runners wedged into it. And hidden in there are probably way more players we know than we suspect currently...as soon as any kind of list shows up, you'll get it.
Spotted (but not necessarily playing today): Isabelle Mercier John Shipley Blondeite 'doobs' Sverre Sundbo Rolf Slotboom Mark Vos ActionJeff Er... there were more at the Pokerstars Party, I think, but I can't really recall. I can tell you that the sea is nice and warm at 1am. The weather in Barcelona is textbook sunny, and the 5pm starts daily mean that we may even get a chance to see some of the beautiful city, missed spectacularly last year but lurking gloriously for whenever we crawl out of bed. Play is due to start in under 20 minutes, but we're not holding our breath. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 04:30:29 PM And while the Day 1a Runners List is still being processed by the casino and has yet to make its way into Mad Harper's hands, here's another list, with which she rightly assumed we'd all be pacified: a list of qualifiers, buyers-in via Stars and sponsored players.

From what I could gather, a three way all-in with our hero the exiter holding K-9 against A-K and A-K, with a flop of A-K-9... the guy could just have repeated the winning hand, but you get the idea. So the remaining players of EPT Barcelona can now rest easy knowing they are not going to finish in last place. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 28, 2007, 05:47:04 PM Early Roland news, he just scooped a fairly decent pot, 6k or 7k, on a Th Kh Kd 7s Qd board showing Ac Kc.
Julian was down to 6k, but just had Aces against Kings and is now back up to 12k. Mark Vos was moved to his table and raised his blind to 150, Julian called. Flop: Ahrt 5d Jc Check check. Turn: Ts Julian fires out 200 and it's enough to take it down. Michael Westerlund vs Dan Carter Kh 5s 9h 7s board, Dan check/calls a 1.1k bet. Both check the 5h river and Dan's Kd Th is good enough to take it down. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 06:04:26 PM There have been a few large pots kicking today off, with one being won by this guy pictured. The betting ended on the flop, which was Ahrt Qc 7h. It looked like he bet out, a good couple of thousand, and Matey raised all-in. He called pretty fast with, and Matey already looked disappointed as he flipped Ad Qh, only to see the 7d 7c against him. The turn brought the 3s and the river a definitive 7c, eliminating another player at the beginning of the second level (50/100).

Michael Westerlund had, he said been raising around 50% of the hands. He raised to 300 and received 4 callers, Dan was in the blind with erm... 6-2o. He re-raised to 1,900 and Westerlund called. The flop came K-J-4 and Dan led out for 2,500. Michael called leaving himself 4,000 back, the turn was a 6. Dan checked now and Michael checked too. A miracle 2 appeared on the river and Dan set Michael in to eliminate him. Ram Vaswani is OUT we believe. No details. Mickey Wernick is short after bluffing the turn and river of a 5h Jh Kc 9c Jd river with 1,200 and 3,500 bets. His opponent called with Ac Jc and Wernick mucked sharpish. Stuart Fox won a 5k pot with Jd Tc against Qs 7d on a Jh 7c 5h 4c Ks board despite his opponent trying a minimum check/raise on the turn. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 06:45:00 PM John Kabbaj is OUT - previously looking relaxed by early massage, he was dented chipwise by Len Collin, who told us he'd "done a lot of fishing, caught a straight and took most of his [Kabbaj's] chips. Should have put him all in, he would have called (with two pair) but there was a flush on board."
Kabbaj's actual last hand was T-6, which he ran into a flopped set of Nines. Outs for the flush apparently came in, but so did his eliminator's house... Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 07:19:16 PM Dusk Til Dawn Count:
So far it looks like Richard Ashby (6,075) and Michael Greco (9,600) are the only DTD-ers here today...both pictured below. entangled...down to 4,300:
He'd raised in mid position to 525, been called on the button and then raised to 1,525 out of the big blind. He made the call, and so did Button Matey. Flop: 3h 7c 5s Check round, fairly fast. Turn: 5d Big Blind bets out 1,525 now, called by Thorsson only. River: Aspades Big Blind now bets out 1,600. William Thorsson raises to 4,200, only to find an abrupt re-raise all in, for more than his stack. This part took a bit longer, as he considered calling, looked at his just-over-4k and eventually decided against it. It looks like neighbour Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier is the current chip leader, nearing 30k, while erstwhile extra tablemate Pippa Flanders (pictured looking diminutive) is nowhere to be seen any more. (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=426&g2_serialNumber=1) This could be due to a move and dinner break (they're doing the small dining room shift system - at the moment half are on break), but I think there are too many chips on table ElkY, somehow, for that to be the case... Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 28, 2007, 08:11:04 PM Roland De Wolfe just felt the full force of a cooler. I believe the expression on his face can be summed up by this picture...
(http://ouch.distilleryrecords.com/ouch2.jpg) A-Q-9 flop, Roland has 9-9, his opponent had Q-Q. Roland very short now. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 28, 2007, 08:18:45 PM Second half chip counts:

That looked pretty good, as did a short stack's moving all in with Kh Js, until the board came running Sevens to counterfeit his two pair and knock him back under the starting stack.
The very next hand, however, he looked down to some small blind Aces. It got round to him standard raised to 300 - he made it 950 to go, and the big blind re-raised to 2,200. The original raiser thought about it for ages before passing (Queens, it has been said), as did another caller, but Sverre pushed all in (as one does) called pretty fast by the big blind's Jc Jh. The Aspades Ac held, and he's chirpy once again. Title: Re: EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 28, 2007, 09:45:19 PM MIA:

He is already mournfully recalling that period when, "I was probably chip leader. I had 26 within two hours..." Nothing much has been going on in the world of Lucky Scrote recently. "If you want to watch paint dry," he adds, "Stand there."

They seem to be clashing rather a lot, with a smaller pot just now drifting to Roland... he raised to 600 preflop, called by button Sahamies. They both checked the 3h 2d 3s flop; Roland check-called the 6d turn, and then found an Ad on the river pairing his hand (Ac 4d) and beating Ilari (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=579) Sahamies (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=579)' 6s which he flashed as he mucked it. Plus he wasn't wearing anything DayGlo this time round. "I had no hands all day. When I did, someone else had a better one." His final hand had seen him with around 3k, shoving on a Ten-high flop with Kh Jd. He was called... by Aspades Ks and it had gone from bad to worse to out in a few easy levels.

On a 8c 6c 2d board, Jules had check/raised another guy virtually all-in. The other player had made the call and flipped Qd Qc, Julian tapped the table and showed Ahrt Jh. The dealer then mucked the cards and pushed the pot towards the other player. Luckily the cards were brought back, Julian missed his Ace though and has about 7k now. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=470&g2_serialNumber=1) Gunnar Ostebrod (surely he could be a emo-band's lead singer if he ever quit poker), Ramzi Jelassi and Rob Hollink. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=472&g2_serialNumber=1) Roland De Wolfe has almost doubled up when his Td Tc held against Ahrt Js on a 4s 4h 7h Kd Th board. That's some impressive stack-building skills by the boy carter. Hope he doesn't get too bored and do anything crazy!! Wish him good luck from me if you get a chance. Thanks :) Sadly the Boy Carter's fortunes have progressed in a downward fashion since the start of Level Two...currently on 8,000 after a couple of big losses and a couple of smaller ones. The most entertaining to relate as a story involves Dan calling an early position raiser (one who was, apparently, steaming) with 8s 8d. On a Qd 9c 3c flop Dan also called the 5k push this right hand side neighbour bet out with, and found him holding Ahrt 3h... Ace on the river to take about a quarter of Dan's then stack. Still in a fairly good mood as his stack isn't at its lowest ebb of the day (that was 4,900 about 15 minutes ago...) Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 29, 2007, 12:53:10 AM Mark Vos has doubled up with Jd Jh against the Aspades Kc of his nearest neighbour.
Board: 8d Tc 4c Qd 3d Meanwhile, Julian and Dan have swapped 5% of their shortish stacks... Julian went down to 1,600 but has since cracked A-Q with J-T, he then pushed A-8 against Johnny Lodden's Queens and flopped two Eights, or to quote a droll Mr Lodden, "He f**ked me in the ass." Finally, another player on this table raised from early position and was met with a re-raise which he called. OR bet out 3k on the A-T-x flop, the RR moved in for 8k more. OR raiser calls with K-J. RR has A-A for top set. The Q was the very next card out. Meanwhile next door Ramzi Jelassi moves in against a short stack with Ad Kd - facing Ahrt Qd the board came Ten-high...+5k and the knockout to young Swedish sponsoree. Finally, hovering on short stacks are Alan Smurfit (5,200) and Johan Storakers (6,200) while Phil Starrs has progressed to 18,450 and so, roughly, has Paul Testud. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 29, 2007, 01:07:29 AM A hand from last level I just found scrawled on the back of my notepad: Sverre Sundbo is rather healthily stacked (I think he was also recently responsible for eliminating short stacked Sorel Mizzi) - a good chunk of this came in this odd hand -
Sverre raised on the button to 800, the small blind re-raised to 3k; call. Flop: 3d 2c 5s Don't think there was any action here (was distracted by someone shouting and waving hands around on the next door table, if I am honest) Turn: Th Small Blind Matey bet out 4k - instacall. River: Qd Small Blind Matey bet out a good proportion of his stack - around 12k, and Sverre Sundbo called pretty fast, showing Kd Td at pretty much the same time as S.B.M. just tossed his hand away... Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 29, 2007, 01:34:40 AM At the moment, Matt he's on the way up. Looked to be on 14k a few minutes ago as the last level started.
The final level stats in full: 117 players remaining, blinds 300/600/75. Average stack 22,564. Mickey Wernick is just waiting for a spot now, he's being dealt pure filth and facing a table which seems to have at least two raises everytime action reaches him. Mark Vos just called 7k on the river of a Ks Kd 9h 5h 7s board. His opponent was forced to show Qs Jh, no good against 9c 8c. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 29, 2007, 01:52:51 AM Consistently faring well today have been:
1) Annette Obrestad (Annette_15, online scourge) 2) Rayan Nathan (despite looking half asleep) and 3) This guy, whom I was calling Hollister Orange for obvious reasons but whose name is actually Cort Kibler-Melby, which was the next combination of letters I was about to guess. He was chip leader for a good while with over 60k, and although he's slightly down from that now, he's still up there in the top five in chips, without a doubt (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=476&g2_serialNumber=1) (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=478&g2_serialNumber=1) (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=480&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 29, 2007, 01:59:46 AM Somehow these three have been moved throughout the day until they're in a line: Dan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=86) Carter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=86), Julian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) Thew (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=225) and Johnny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=606) Lodden (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=606) (the latter on 17,500, for you who were asking). They only get to spend 45 minutes as immediate neighbours however - Day Two will see a redraw, and apparently eight-handed tables throughout.

Richard Ashby -- 43k Michael Greco -- 20k Elsewhere, Mark Vos is on over 60k now, after he 3-bet all-in a constant re-raiser of his raises with Ace Jack. When he was called, he assumed he was in trouble, when his opponent decided to call off his entire 25k stack with J-9, it was obvious he wasn't. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 29, 2007, 02:01:21 AM Johnny Lodden is OUT. A-K against A-Q. Queen on the turn. Eek.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 29, 2007, 02:06:32 AM Willliam Thorsson is OUT - he raised most of his bowl of rice preflop (1,700) and was put in by Ahrt Jd - no folding for the half handful of greens remaining, and his Aspades 7d was in bad shape as the board came down 3d 9h 4d 8d 5h.

Instead of the final 10 minutes, we had a final 5 hands which included David Williams losing a monster pot with Q-J vs A-A on a T-9-4-2-4 board.
But that is everything. We are off to sleep now. See you all tomorrow, same bat-time, same bat-channel. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 29, 2007, 01:58:06 PM Chip Counts thanks to Mad and Pokerstars:
