Title: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Bongo on August 30, 2007, 09:52:55 PM
It's about time to start planning this I think, only have a few weeks before we want to get started.

I thought the last one worked really well, giving everyone plenty of games (and most of them weren't pointless!)

Does anyone have any suggestions to improve it?

Who wants to play this season?

Entry List:
1 Bongo
2 Sheriff
3 Booder
4 Matt
5 Newportlad
6 Silo
7 Wardonkey
8 Tractor
9 TheBigO
10 amcgrath
11 Yogi
12 Ironside
13 Nakor
14 Pokerram
15 Bazza
16 kingjon
17 diva
18 Bustler
19 cossieboy
20 brother
21 IlCapitano
22 Vogue (My Sokker Coach!)
23 KeithyB
24 and to make up numbers - my brother
24

You've drawn Jon every week, does that help?

Maybe we could impose a limit on total BTR of team, or handicap you?

Just trying to think of things that would lead to an interesting competition, rather than you thrashing everyone!

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Ironside on September 11, 2007, 04:53:48 PM
how about a rule for everyone no player allowed to play with a BTR greater than 20k

some sports have a salary cap - maybe if you force him to sell most of his best players? :D

how about a rule for everyone no player allowed to play with a BTR greater than 20k

We could do something like that, but it would have to be a carefully chosen figure.

I have a couple of players approaching 20k, and it would severely weaken me if I wasn't allowed to play them, but other similar players would be allowed to play - I'm sure a few other teams would be in a similar situation (Booder, Tractor, cossieboy...)

Jon also has several players above 10k BTR (so quite good) but below 20k BTR so would be eligible.

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Ironside on September 11, 2007, 05:28:35 PM
well we should set a figure for a player and a team total aswell

sort of handicap everyone to allow newer players to compete

but without making it impossible for those more established

if FC are introuduced this season it will mean alot of people wont be able to field there first choice team anyway

Hi. I'm interested (been on holiday)

you wont of noticed that your friend the trundler lost the golden league by 1 point on the final event of the final meet then

and then also tried to spout off that his OAP italian was better than all my long distance runners but soon got slapped down with facts

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Bongo on September 11, 2007, 09:34:33 PM
I think something like this:
Max BTR for team
Max BTR for each player, with wild cards allowed (1 or 2?) so teams can still play a star or 2?

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3

As we have over 16 here is my plan:

Invite a few more friends to play (they all joined around the same time, so should be decent matches), everyone else feel free to do the same.

Have 8 go through in the main comp, the rest go through to the consolation (with byes if needed, if we get > 24 runners only 16 go through here and rest through to main).

Anyone got anything else to say on a handicapping system?

I have a mate who has just started playing. I'm sure he would play if you have spaces. I'll get him to join blonde as well, he's a competent player in micro stake STTs....

Sounds good!
I have one 20k+ player, he keeps my team together and is my wicky keeper, i couldnt do without him at the moment.
But appart from that sounds great.

Thank you.

Hi mate, welcome to blonde!

I'll add you to the list now.

I've had a think about the whole battrick rating limit and I'm not sure how well it will work.

e.g. I added up the BTR of Jon's worst 11 players, it came to: 124,696, so realistically we'd have to make the limit around 130k for Jon to be able to play (allowing for changes in form).

My first team currently has a BTR total of < 110k

I made a mistake with the software - numbers 1 and 24 were excluded from the draw, and so ended up in group D by default.

I've corrected the error and shall now redraw.

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Bongo on October 25, 2007, 01:01:56 AM
Through the wonders of a google search I have a program that has provided the following schedule:

(Team 1 being first team listed in group, etc)

Round 1

Team 1 - Team 6
Team 2 - Team 3
Team 5 - Team 4

Round 2

Team 3 - Team 5
Team 4 - Team 1
Team 6 - Team 2

Round 3

Team 1 - Team 5
Team 2 - Team 4
Team 6 - Team 3

Round 4

Team 1 - Team 3
Team 4 - Team 6
Team 5 - Team 2

Round 5

Team 2 - Team 1
Team 3 - Team 4
Team 6 - Team 5

I think to stop the cup dragging out we should only meet each team once, otherwise we'd need 13 weeks!

Unbelievably it seems my brother accepted the first challenge he got assuming it would be the right one.

I hope he just forgot and was trying to think up a better excuse, otherwise I really do worry for him...

Anyway points go to you, and feel free to arrange another friendly. (Probably best to check you were actually meant to be playing him first, lest I've mixed you up again!)

I've sent tractor a challenge for sundays game but still not accepted it. I'm in London this weekend so need to have it sorted by tonight otherwise if it gets accepted after this then i wont get chance to set my match orders or pick my reserves.

I dont want my first team playing because i want to conserve their energy!!

I ended up getting beat fairly easily

ruswarp only losing the 2 wickets with 3 and a half overs to go

Unfortunately for me, I didnt get the pitch changed to dusty in time, and it showed with my weaker spinner going for 82 from his 10.

Lost today but realistically things were as good as they could be.

A respectable total of 233 was knocked off easily by BVCC but the squad had a run out with no real damage to fitness and I learnt a little more about some of them.

Congrats to BigO    ;applause;

Yeah, well done :) That's the last time you get anything other than the first XI to play, although to be fair the bowlers I picked were all competent or better and I had my best batting line up in. Gutted!

Booder's team were absolutely racing along

End of Over 29: 166-3, runrate=5.72
Hyams   5-0-38-0
Butcher*   27 (40 balls)
Hendrie   108 (93 balls)
Last Wicket: Keith lbw b. Antonius 13 (FOW: 65/3)

Then

29.2    W   Downes to Hendrie
Controversy here as Hendrie refuses to walk! Snicko is inconclusive, but Hendrie clearly felt there was no edge. Eventually he trudges disconsolately back to the pavilion, but the Match Referee may have something to say about that little episode!

Since that, my bowlers are doing much better

End of Over 34: 176-4, runrate=5.18
Antonius   7-0-25-1
Butcher*   33 (46 balls)
Anton   0 (24 balls)
Last Wicket: Hendrie c. Birchall b. Downes 108 (FOW: 167/4)

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: amcgrath1uk on November 18, 2007, 01:17:56 PM
That completes an excellent fightback

End of Over 44: 218-10, runrate=4.95
Hyams   6-0-41-2
Schofield*   11 (16 balls)

Hopefully I can knock these off. Not going to be easy tho

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: KeithyB on November 18, 2007, 01:39:39 PM
Fell away from a respectable 165-5 to 182 all out on Ironshire's cracked pitch, mainly as none of my bowlers know which end of the bat to hold!  ;carlocitrone;

Unlikely to be enough but hopefully they'll be made to work a little before knocking the runs off!

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3

Starting to look ominous.....

End of Over 11: 47-1, runrate=4.27, reqrunrate=3.49 (182-10)
Mansfield 6-0-14-0
Harrison* 19 (26 balls)
Williams 10 (24 balls)

Last Wicket: Devins c. Qaba b. Kilkenny 12 (FOW: 19/1)

Doesn't help that I've just noticed that my proficient keeper is not actually behind the stumps!  rotflmfao   Sack the manager!!

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3

End of Over 22: 127-1, runrate=5.77, reqrunrate=3.29 (218-10)
Brooker   6-0-22-0
Ashieq*   52 (65 balls)
Mpho   15 (9 balls)
Last Wicket: Barlow c & b. Stockdale 52 (FOW: 98/1)

Have a long batting line up, with my strongest bat at 6, and my resp YP at 8..

And that's the end of the match. Ironshire won by 6 wickets.
Athletico Foxy 182-10
Ironshire 184-4   (43 overs)

Convincing enough but not too far away from being competitive so plenty of positives and all that!   ;)

Well done Iron!

Lol..the final stats are in and my wicketkeeper cockup resulted in 11 byes in the innings....not to mention a missed stumping I saw in commentary!

The result of a latenight reshuffle of the batting order which also had the knockon effect of the team being lead by a guy with worthless leadership skills!

The commentary is random (at the moment) so the missed stumping you saw is just a standard dot ball.

That's not to say there aren't missed stumpings that you didn't see though...

Relevant commentary is stated as an improvement for the future.

 18/11/2007 (friendly)     at TractorX1
SheriffsStars   313-3
TractorX1   118-10

I'm really puzzled by Tractor's results in this league as, on paper, he has a really strong team including a 24k rated opening batsmen.  By rights I shouldn't be winning by this sort of margin.

Our previous matches have always been tight games, so this was a surprise.  However, I'll settle for it!!!

Title: Re: Battrick Cup 3
Post by: Bongo on November 18, 2007, 05:51:10 PM
The player's PFLs are very bad, the 24k opener has a PFL of low and won't perform very well at all - I'd guess about 20% of his true potential.

All results from the 4 weeks have been sent to bongo, he just needs to sort out the NRR and a couple of issues ( teams not challenging or accepting challenges).

hopefully, the full tables won't be too long in coming

kiethy you got unlucky today you should of won

your top and middle order was better than mine

your spin bowling was beter than mine

only my seam bowling was better than yours and it susited the pitch

a little tinkering with your match orders and you would be able to beat the team i put out today even on a seamers pitch

I'll put this up and edit as I go...

Group A
Team                  P  W  L  T  Pts   NRR
Saffycozzie Sloggers  5  5  0  0   20   -
SheriffsStars         5  4  1  0   16   -
Gorseybrigg old boys  5  3  2  0   12  -
Rambamboolies         5  1  3  1    6  -5.647
Matts Monkeys         5  1  4  0    4  -12.519
TractorX1             5  0  4  1    2  -9.869

No idea what happened between rambamboolies so have put it as a tie, although even a default loss to rambamboolies wouldn't see matt overtake on NRR. Left out NRR for top 3 as irrelevant!

Group B
Team                  P  W  L  T  Pts   NRR
Ironshire             5  5  0  0   16   -
Ruswarp Ponies        5  4  1  0   16   -
BVCC                  5  2  2  1   10  -1.506
Staples015            5  2  3  0    8   4.569
Athletico Foxy        5  1  4  0    4  -7.097
norfolkngood          5  0  4  1    2  -10.028

Again, no idea what happened with BVCC v norfolkngood, so awarded as tie
Group C
Team                  P  W  L  T  Pts NRR
Bigglesthwaite CC     5  5  0  0   20
St Woolos Old Boys    5  4  1  0   16
ramshire              5  3  2  0   12
Grolsch Guerillas     5  2  3  0    8
Caerphilly Dragons    5  1  4  0    4
Soldiers CC           5  0  5  0    0

Group D
Team                  P  W  L  T  Pts NRR
Kamikaze Kricket      5  5  0  0   20
The Cossie Crusaders  5  3  2  0   12
KBOTW                 5  3  2  0    12
Norfolk Magicians     5  2  3  0    8
Jellystone Parkers    5  2  3  0    8
Los Galactico         5  0  5  0    0

Need to calculate NRR for everyone here, which is annoying!

Need another 100 runs at least for my bowlers to have a chance.

Its looking evenly poised at the minute, you made good start and my spinners curtailed your run rate but a few good overs have picked it back up.  I wouldn't want to be chasing much over 250 on this pitch.

Congrats to Wardonkey who knocked off Athletico Foxy's meagre 144 for the loss of.....er.....no wickets!  ;surrender; :D

Not too despondent though as Wardonkey seemed to put out a reasonable team and I did manage my best set of results yet from the reporter.  ( might not be relevant but I'll take any plusses!  ;sark; )

Still moving in the right direction I believe and certainly these cup games have told me more about the squad than thrashing bots ever will!

So thanks to all my opponents and good luck whoever progresses!   ;goodluck;

Can anyone remember what I said the semis would be, probably makes sense to have winner of 1st game play winner of 3rd game, and 2nd play 4th, home team decided by coin toss?

That way you avoid teams from same group until final...

I'm getting a hammering here.

Kingjon's Kamikaze Kricket are currently   End of Over 13: 100-1, runrate=7.69

Going to be a long day in the field!

Post by: Bazzaboy on December 02, 2007, 01:40:22 PM
I don't think I have anywhere near enough batting to reach Bongos target, but you never know.  A couple of my batsmen may surprise me :)

End of Over 50: 314-7, runrate=6.28
Cranie 10-0-60-3
Pedro* 35 (17 balls)
Foot 0 (0 balls)

Last Wicket: Lonergan c. Morgan b. Cranie 0 (FOW: 314/7)

And that's the end of the match. Kamikaze Kricket won by 340 runs.
Kamikaze Kricket 380-4
St Woolos Old Boys 40-10

well, it was close....

The good news...

And that's the end of the match. SheriffsStars won by 129 runs.
SheriffsStars   271-2
Ironshire   142-10

The bad news...

I think I play kingjon next.

Bit of giant killing going on from Athletico Foxy who managed to beat TractorX1 by five wickets!  ;yippee;

Really didn't believe I could compete against a lineup containing four 10K+ players including a 25k batter.   ;tightend;

Despite the 25k guy scoring a stylish 90 I managed to peg them back from 106-1 and 155-4 to 195 all out.

Game was in balance when Foxy fell to 54-3 in reply on an uneven pitch but a dour grinding 130 partnership for the fourth wicket saw the team nearly home.  Won with six overs to spare which sounds comfortable but I was very relieved to get the runs then as Tractor's dangerous opening bowlers were due to bowl the remainder.

Has to go down as my best Battrick performance so far, ;applause;

Thanks Tractor for a great game.

Good effort AMC but T'Briggites win by three wickets and 16 balls. The benefits of batting down to eight!

Staples 240-10 off 49.1
Briggites 241-7 off 47.2

Indeed. Quite happy with the overall result. Think it was more Ndebele's 2-14 from 10 overs, and Kerwin's 113no that won the game. happy with my top 4, happy with all 5 bowlers. Shame about the middle/lower order.

Accepted - best of luck :)

Well I lost (unsurprisingly) to kingjon by 9 wickets but I'm taking positives from the fact that I survived for over 40 overs and that it took him 30 overs to reach the target of 137.

Small crumbs of comfort, maybe, but its an improvement on the last time I played him!

Good luck in the final (not that you'll need it!!)

Results:

Bigglesthwaite CC v Kamikaze Kricket
Kamikaze Kricket win by a lot... I almost made 3 figures, shame I had to rest so many players too :(

Gorseybrigg old boys v The Cossie Crusaders
Gorseybrigg old boys 151-10
The Cossie Crusaders 152-4

Thought cracked was an odd choice of pitch, purely because The Cossie Crusaders have so many all rounders and a wicket taking pitch suits them quite well.

Matts Monkeys v Jellystone Parkers
Matts Monkeys 313-5
Jellystone Parkers 56-10

Today was testemonial day at Monkey CCG as my star all rounder had a successful bid during the week after i lowered his price from £3.5m to £3m. With the deadline being at 13.42 i decided that despite his PFL only being fair it seemed fitting that he should take part as hopefully the money used from his sale will help build the team to challenge for honours next season. Also playing were the first two signings bought with some of the proceeds of his sale to see how they will fit in to their new monkey surroundings.

Things look promising for the two new arrivals with Findlay brought in as a batter who with a little training in the nets will also provide bowling cover in one day games making a debut century ably assisted by Killen on his last appearance in a total of 313. My second signing Wells brought in as a opening fast bowler managed to take 4 wickets in his opening burst to allow the monkeys to send Killen of in style and bring in a new era at Monkey HQ.

Well played to Yogi and thanks to Bongo for organizing everything - at least i managed to win something this season :)
