Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 31, 2007, 03:00:57 AM With the increase in field size, EPT's have now gone from being squeezed into four days to a full five-day competition. Today, we play down from the 56 players who have cashed to the final table. The feature table will be getting it's first use of the season.
There's currently around 15 minutes of the 1200/2400/300 level remaining. Play starts at 5pm (4pm UK). Join us then. :) Chip counts from Pokerstars and seating order. Table 7: Aditya Agarwal 61,400 Bjorn Erik Glenne 126,700 Borge Dypvik 45,200 Andrey Zaichenko 84,800 Mika Paasonen 213,600 Patrick Bruel 267,000 Greg Dyer 95,200 Phil Starrs 39,900 So, that's one previous winner (Glenne), one Scottish APAT champ (Starrs), three Pokerstars qualifiers and the superfamous Patrick Bruel, who has probably been the most filmed player at most of the EPTs I have attended. The guy was stalked by French camera crews in Deauville last year; I swear they were following him to the bathroom and asking him questions in between every hand. Although he might not be quite so famous outside of Europe, it would be huge news over here if he made the final table. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 31, 2007, 04:28:17 PM Dani Stern is our first casualty, the leader of Day 1, was all-in with K-Q against the Eights of Giovanni Spadavecchia. An eight hit the flop and that was enough, a small round of applause from the rail probably no consolation.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 04:32:29 PM The cards are in the air - the TV table was remarkably efficiently sent on its way, and the final seven tables are busy trying to reduce their number.
A reminder of the payouts, with the first eliminated (which has already happened) guaranteed €10,500: 1 1,170,700 2 673,000 3 388,800 4 301,000 5 250,800 6 196,500 7 154,700 8 104,500 9 64,800 10 64,800 11 46,000 12 46,000 13 33,450 14 33,450 15 25,100 16 25,100 17-24 20,900 25-32 16,700 33-40 14,650 41-48 12,550 49-56 10,500 Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 04:51:06 PM Pictured is Mohamad Kowssarie, chip leader starting today. The stacks have been made slightly less unweildy by the addition of some nondescript brown 5k chips, but his stack is still impressive. I personally think that as higher denom chips come into play they should become progressively more garish in colour, so the eye is caught by the dayglo orange 5k, and perhaps the neon blue 10k, while 25k chips should have spinning rims.

JM Garde ends up all-in with Qh Qs against Michael Wong's Kh Jh. Pete Giordano passes his 2h 2d face in the face of the all-ins. Board: 8s 2s 4h Th 7h Pete had a look of disgust until the river, but then exclaimed, "Well, I saved myself fifty thousand." JM Garde who is a real ringer for Robert Downey Jr, is OUT. Joining him on the rail, is Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=651) Vos (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=651). His Nines lost out to Dag Martin Mikkelsen's Ace Jack. APAT Champ Phil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=351) Starrs (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=351) is out too, he held Ad 9d against Jd 8d but the eight spiked. Jerome Ferron busts with A-Q against Kees Alblas' A-K. The Queen came, but so did a Jack and a Ten. Fabrice (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1044) Soulier (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1044) doubles through Christopher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=499) Ulsrud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=499) with Ace King against Sixes. Couldn't see the board from the other side of the room, but the Frenchman was pretty chuffed. The first five out, confirmed by Mad and Pokerstars are: 56 - Daniel Stern (USA) 55 - Phil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=351) Starrs (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=351) (UK) 54 - Jesus Manuel Garde (Spain) 53 - Jerome Ferron (France) 52 - Cort Kibler-Melby (Germany) Pictured: Mark Vos (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=678&g2_serialNumber=1) Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 04:58:12 PM Once-Leader Cort Kibler-Melby, out in 52nd place...

Mr. Higgins fell to him just now - some unlucky Qs Qd against his Ahrt Jd, and Daniel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=83) Dodet (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=83) added his chips to Teltscher's like a garnish of thyme on a whole roast cow. Dodet moved in on the button with his 6d 6c and Mark called in the blinds with Ad Kh.

Still tough to get access though. (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=692&g2_serialNumber=1) Most hands now at all-in pushes, it's very rare to have something played down the streets. The only one I spotted was a hand between Adam Junglen and Nikolaus Jedlicka Adam bet 12k on the 5c 7d Tc flop and was called by Nikolaus. The turn was a possible action creating 6c, but Junglen check/folded to the 20k bet from Jedlicka. Finally Daniel Negreanu has entered the pressroom. He must have had twenty coffees before he came though, I've never heard a man talk so fast. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: NoflopsHomer on August 31, 2007, 05:44:02 PM Pete Giordano is now chip leader having won a large pot from Mohamad Kowssarie, the latter is apparently the fabled 'Fast Freddy' incidentally.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 06:11:36 PM Right - two times table breaks, and the floor (minus the TV-tablers, whom Homer has been keeping an eye on) looks like this:

Giordano bet out 35k (in brown 5k chips) and Kowssarie on the button promptly raised it to 120k (in blue 1k chiptowers). Pete Giordano chatted gently to himself, "Those ares stacks of thirty...countdown... We're at the next blind level..." and then moved in, a further 85,400 exactly for Kowssarie to call. Instapass. "You're not gonna lay down a Queen," volunteered Pete the Beat, "You're gonna lay down nothing!" We may never know. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 06:33:20 PM Dag Martin Mikkelsen (on the button) got involved with small blind Thomas Fjelleheim, betting 11,500 on a flop of 4h Qd 3d. Fjelleheim called.
Turn: 9d Check once more to Mikkelsen, who bet 22,500, but wasn't prepared to match the 76k total offered by Fjelleheim as he promptly check-raised all in. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279) Greco (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=279), short stacked for over 48 hours now, was last spotted across the room hovering amongst those playing the €300 PLO Rebuy event going on today. It then became clear that he was actually playing this event at the same time as the EPT Main Event, crossing languidly back and forth while his chip stack gradually dwindles still further without ever actually disappearing altogether. I am now going to go back to the rail and watch until I see the Dusk Till Dawn sponsored player actually play a hand - I will accept an Omaha one if all else fails. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 08:26:53 PM Nikolaus Jedlicka takes a pretty chunky pot from Juan Maceiras, who raised the river with the board showing 7c Ts 9s Kc 5s from 35k to 80k, called by Jedlicka with a Kh Tc in his hand which saw off Maceiras' 6s 2c. "You got it," said the Spanish player as he left himself short stacked after a very odd hand which saw a 6k flop bet and a 20k turn bet (both called) before the healthier river action. He and Javed Abrahams have both pushed preflop a couple of times - no takers.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Day 3 - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on August 31, 2007, 08:33:49 PM Juan Maceiras, having pushed all in twice preflop, does it a third time with a stack of 67,400. A little more dwelling, but again he gets it through.
The blinds went up during all of that TVtable non-action - they are now 2,500/5,000 ante 500. Colouring up the 100 chips. Bear with us. Sylvester Geoghegan manages to escape from Queens, but maybe he's wishing he didn't. He raised from the high-jack to 12k, Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) made it 32k from the small blind and then Daan Ruiter moved in from the big blind. The Irishman passed his Queens with the manner of someone who loves chocolate cake but is on a diet, and Teltscher made the call, "You got aces?" he asked. "Yes," was the reply from the Dutchman. Firstly, this guy standing up, Eric Hardt, was just eliminated (incidentally, this is who I confused for Ola before, sorry) - he pushed all in preflop over the 15k preflop bet of Mohamad Kowssarie (also pictured, fortuitously). Mohamad called with Ac Ks and was up against Jc Tc. A King came to cement his aheadness and we were down to 32... (http://www.blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=720&g2_serialNumber=1) Then fell shortstacked Ryan Jones, small blind in his last hand. He called all in with 7h 7c after button Michael Wong shoved first - with Ks 9s as it happened. Big blind Kees Alblas had toyed with his Ahrt 5h before sensibly binning it - he would have won on a board which came out Jc 2c Ad Jd Kh. Instead Wong almost doubles up at the expense of Ryan Jones. "The grinder is still in!" he remarked, cheerfully, seemingly as surprised at his shortstack holding as the rest of his table. He quickly shoved in early position, and found neighbour Mark Teltscher mini-raising to 23,500 after him (which made big blind Sylvester Geoghegan lose interest despite his prior declaration that he would likely have to "call you blind..."). Button Alessio Isaia called, and that left three of them to see the flop:

He had a bit of luck getting it all in preflop with Aspades Qs (pushing after Teltscher raised to 15k, Mohamad Kowssarie called and he saw an opportunity...) and finding the original raiser with some calling Kings. Ace on the flop, and that's 0 for 2 for Mark Teltscher's Cowboys.

We just lost Jan Sjavik after Phillip 'Clap Your Hands Say' Yeh took him on with K-8 against A-2 in a blind on blind battle. The board coming 8-3-Q-9-J. Jen down to two picks, I still have three, mwahahahaha. However, one of my picks, Dag Martin Mikkelsen just lost a 370k pot with Ac Ks against Sander Lylloff's Aspades Js. Dag raised from EP, Sander re-raised and Dag 3-bet him all in. The board came Td 6d 5h 6c Jd leaving Dag with just 370k. He pushes all in from the big blind when small blind Mika Paasonen has a go when it passes round to him... he gets the chips and nonchalantly flips his 6s 8d. Then he raises to 18k (blinds 3k/6k), called by big blind Greg Dyer (whose stack was looking a little more healthy, nearer 200k). Flop: 8h 3s Ad. Dyer checks, Maceiras bets 40k; call. Turn: Ts Greg Dyer immediately moves in, and Juan Maceiras just as immediately passes. Juan Maceiras is all in the next hand, preflop, uncalled. I worry that in the time it takes to walk across the casino to the press room and back again all the chips on the table will have gone through the Spanish player's stack in interesting ways. We will restart tomorrow at 3.30pm (2.30pm UK) The problem stems from the tv crews wanting to film every play who cashed, so this meant we could've had an extra couple of hours last night. Instead, we're not going to make the final eight by tonight, (obviously). Outer table action. Greg Dyer raises to 30k from the cut-off, Nikolaus Jedlicka, the chip leader, re-raises to 75k. Greg passes. Next hand, Mohamad Kowssarie takes the blinds with a button raise. Finally, Phillip Yeh, pushes all-in from UTG and takes the blinds. The feature table, from a better angle.
