Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Final Day - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on September 01, 2007, 01:05:37 PM
Final day here of the Pokerstars EPT in Barcelona, at least we hope so... A couple of the levels added (like the 500/1000 and 2500/5000) have meant we still haven't reached the final table yet. Because, hopefully, we'll be down to the final table soon and combined with the live feed, we are not doing an 'At A Glance' thread today.

Play recommences at 3.30pm (2.30pm UK time)

13 players remain. Blinds  be 6k/12k/1k.

Outer table:

Phillip Yeh -- 116k
Greg Dyer -- 155k
Nikolaus Jedlicka -- 879k
Mohamad Kowssarie -- 294k
Voitto Rintala -- 253k
Sander Lylloff -- 646k

Feature table:

Tronde Eidsvig -- 339k
Patrick Bruel -- 270k
Mika Paasonen -- 715k
Adam Junglen -- 419k
Mark Teltscher -- 533k
Juan Maceiras -- 585k
Davidi Kitai -- 219k

Thomas Kremser announced the start of play, and play they did, with short stack Greg Dyer turning the tables on Voitto Rintala over two short and sweet (for him) hands... He was all in straight away for his 150k with some timely Kh  Ks which Rintala doubled through, and the very next hand the Finnish player moved all in in turn.  Just 95k to call, but Greg Dyer shoved over the top getting rid of blinds Nikolaus Jedlicka and Mohamad Kowssarie, and flipping Ahrt 9h.
Rintala showed the 9c 7d.  "He has a Nine?" says Dyer, "Beautiful!" as he realises how nicely ahead he is.
The flop of Kh 2h 8s is pretty handy, and although a straight draw for Rintala appeared with the 6d turn, the 9d river sealed his fate and sent him to the rail.

Voitto Rintala finishes in 13th place, winning €33,450

And shortly after we lose Philip (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) Yeh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706), pushing his short stack in with 6s 4s and getting called by Davidi Kitai's Big Slick leaving us with 11 players.

And I hear that we've lost another, Jen is on the case.

Phillip Yeh is OUT in 12th place winning €46,000.

Hot on his heels fell Davidi Kitai, in dramatic circumstances.  Greg Dyer made it 30k to go preflop, and Kitai re-raised to 125k.  Sander Lylloff suddenly shoved and while Dyer ducked out Kitai called all in with Qc Qd.  Lylloff only had the Aspades Ac though, and with a K-3-4-6-K board helping not at all, we had back to back exit hands here in the Gran Casino Barcelona.

Davidi Kitai finishes 11th, winning €46,000

Afternoon!

If you are talking about Voitto Rintala's eyes, that's on purpose, that is.  White lenses=instant scary image, although by all accounts he's very personable.

Making my way through the crowds, I heard big TK's voice announce that Patrick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1111) Bruel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1111) was all-in with Ace Jack against Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263)'s pocket 4's.

Thomas announced, "The flop is 9-6-5."

Before he could announce the turn, a huge cheer erupted from the crowd who are clearly supporting the Frenchman as well as the Spaniard.

Jimmy (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=922) Fricke (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=922), standing towards the back of the crowd, "Well I guess that wasn't a four..."

And true enough, Bruel had hit an Ace on the turn, the river was a blank 3. Teltscher looks to only have about 200k now.

Tronde Eidsvig just paid off a 100k bet on the river of a 8-9-7-Q-Q board to Juan Maceiras, Maceiras showed pocket Eights for the house and took the pot.

Incidentally, doesn't Tronde look like Beaver Casablancas from Veronica Mars?

Greg Dyer (pictured) doubles up - all in preflop with 7c 7d against small blind Sander Lylloff's Aspades Js.
Flop:  4d Qh Qd
Turn:  9s  At this point one of his handful of railers can't contain saying, "Hold!" with an intensity which must have turned the hand of fate as the river came:
5s

New counts from that table:

Greg Dyer  840k
Nikolaus Jedlicka  560k
Mohamad Kowssarie  260k
Mika Paasonen  980k
Sander Lylloff  540k

Mohamad Kowssarie moves in blind...

...this is enough to get the attention of an announcing Kremser, who watches as the rest of his table folds round to Nikolaus Jedlicka in the big blind.  "Any Ace..." coo the spectators...and sure enough, he gives him a spin for his 180k or so with Aspades 6s.
Mohamad discovers his hand to be Kc 5d.
The flop brings the 5c, and the turn and river keep him ahead, thereby neatly flipping their two stack sizes (M.K. on 400k, N.J. on 250k)

Chip counts from the other table:

Juan Maceiras -- 310k (the reason he's dropped, coming sh ortly)
Adam Junglen -- 285k (not sure how he has lost 100k or so)
Tronde Eidsvig -- 440k
Mart Teltscher -- 635k (see Juan)
Patrick Bruel -- 420k

The Mark Teltscher recovery came when he raised the button, found Juan Maceiras putting him all-in with Ace King against Teltscher's Tens.

The board came:

Jc 9d 9s 3d 4d

A few latin-tinged sighs as the crowd took a step back and I managed to get one half-decent photo. (All thanks to Kara Scott who made room for me)

The blinds are now 8k/16k ante 2k

Tronde Erik Eidsvig doubled through off Adam Junglen's Tens vs. Jacks, which is responsible for his healthier stack and Junglen's all in (uncalled) a minute ago.  I can see that happening again with some alacrity.

Juan Maceiras is still playing the same dangerous game, just now taking the blinds and antes with an under the gun shove, showing big blind Mark Teltscher his Tc 2d as he took the chips.  I swear, this guy shows off more (uncalled) hands than a nail salon.

Pictured:  Adam Junglen, showing no hint of worry about his turn in fortune, just a phlegmatic smile.  It looks like he might have some kind of device for attracting calm from other players - Mark Teltscher's reservoir of that ran out, for example, long ago.  Their contrast in temperament makes this an amusing seat draw.

Down to one table.

Mohamad Kowssarie came over the top of Greg Dyer's initial raise, but found himself in a spot when Dyer called with Ad Kc and Kowssarie could only reveal Qs 3s

Board:

Jd 9h Kh 5s 8d

Mohamad Kowssarie is OUT in 10th place winning €64,800

And here is Dyer, the chip leader with over 1.2 million in chips, having started the day 2nd from last.

Final Table.  That means we've lost a player.  And that player is... Juan Maceiras.  He shoved over Greg Dyer's cutoff raise to 60k (for about 280 in total).  Dyer instacalled with Aspades Ks, although there was a weird kind of pause as Dyer waited for Maceiras to show his hand, while the other wasn't seemingly sure that he'd been called.  He had, though, and showed a dominated Ad 6s.  "Adios," muttered an unsympathetic voice on the rail...

The board came out 7d Qd 4c 2s 3s and the aggressive Spaniard busts in 9th, winning €64,800

The players are having the inevitable interviews, in a broom closet somewhere, while the audience round the Final Table filled the TV stage about two hours ago, waiting patiently, staring at an empty table and blank screens bearing the Pokerstars Logo.  Compare the chaos around the final table of Nine (Tronde Eidsvig and Patrick Bruel featured).

We've got about 20 minutes until restart, I reckon, so here's that final table in a handy list form (I have to keep busy or I will wander outside into the sunshine in search of ice cream)... If they do a last minute redraw this list will, of course, be wrong.

1  Greg Dyer -- 1,606,000
2  Adam (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=896) Junglen (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=896) -- 320,000
3  Nikolaus Jedlicka -- 569,000
4  Mika Paasonen -- 924,000
5  Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) -- 676,000
6  Sander Lylloff -- 502,000
7  Tronde Eidsvig -- 452,000
8  Patrick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1111) Bruel (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1111) -- 374,000

Patrick Bruel moves in on a flop of 3h Ahrt 8h...

Mark Teltscher sighs, rocks back and forth for about 20 seconds, then says, "Call."

Mark shows Aspades 9h  vs. the Td Ts of Bruel

Turn:  6h
River:  2h

And arguably the most famous player on the table gets a cheer as he leaves the 8th place finisher, winning €104,500.

"I am learning from these young players," offers Teltscher.  "How old are you anyway?" he asks either Adam Junglen or Greg Dyer...

Patrick Bruel, 47, is known as the first Frenchman to win a WSOP bracelet (1999) and also hosts the French version of the WPT TV show. In his home country however, Patrick is extremely famous as an actor, singer and media personality with over 40 film credits, including Sabrina with Julia Ormand and Harrison Ford. His 2003 album Entre Deux sold over 2m copies. Although he has played many EPTs, this is Patrick's 1st EPT final table

Blinds are now 10k/20k ante 2k

The final table continues... for the benefit of those without streaming, Mark Teltscher has been pretty active recently - re-raising Mika Paasonen preflop, and taking one down, before getting the same treatment from Sander Lylloff, who raised his preflop 51k by 170k...
Mark:  "Aces.  I can beat any other hand.  Do you have it?"
Sander:  "No."
Mark passes.

Chip counts before the huge hand just about to be reported by Chris:

1  Greg Dyer -- 1,600,000
2  Adam Junglen -- 282,000
3  Nikolaus Jedlicka -- 214,000
4  Mika Paasonen -- 983,000
5  Mark Teltscher -- 1,299,000
6  Sander Lylloff -- 598,000
7  Tronde Eidsvig -- 447,000
8  Patrick Bruel -- OUT

Mika raises to 55k. Everyone passes.

Mark raises it up. Nikolaus moves all-in for 214,000. Mark calls.

Mark:

Ahrt Qh

Nikolaus:

Ts Td

Board:

Qc 4c 2h Ad 2h

Nikolaus Jedlicka is OUT in 7th place winning €154,700

A little more about the 7th place finisher:

Young Austrian Nikolaus is having a pretty good summer. In June, he won the Austrian Masters main event for €70,940 and he's also cashed in several other smaller events in Austria in the last year. Known as "RealAndyBeal" on PokerStars, Nikolaus is a Supernova player and cashed W-Dollars for buy-in to Barcelona. He's only been playing a couple of years and normally plays Omaha cash games.

Adam Junglen moves in for 264k preflop.  Mika passes with minimal fuss, Mark asks for a countdown..."Pretty tough for me to lay this one down..." Absolutely no reaction from Adam... Mark passes with medium fuss round to Sander Lylloff, who says, "I am going to have to call."

Adam shows:  Ad 4c
Sander shows:  8d 8h

Flop:  Kh Ks Qh
Turn: 2s
River:  6c

So we lose Adam Junglen in 6th place, winning €196,500

He may be just 19, but Adam Junglen has already made a real name for himself both online and on the live circuit. Playing as "AJunglen7" on PokerStars, he won the Sunday Million in July for close to $200,000 – adding to a string of impressive tournament results on the site. He also cashed in this year's Aussie Millions and came 5 th in the pot limit event at the Johnny Chan Poker Classic in Canada. Things didn't start so well here in Barcelona - the airline lost his luggage - but Adam's fortunes have changed since then. He survived a table featuring Greg Raymer and Patrick Antonius on day 1B and hars been soaring ever since. This is his first final table on the EPT.

Revised chip count:

Greg Dyer -- 1,529,000
Mark Teltscher -- 1,423,000
Mika Paasonen -- 1,049,000
Sander Lylloff -- 920,000
Tronde Eigsvig -- 439,000

River:

Ts

Tronde Eidsvig is OUT in 5th place winning €250,800

Making the final table of EPT Barcelona is Tronde's biggest success in his poker career to date. He turned professional 18 months and played at EPT Dortmund last season, getting knocked early in the second day.

Hey guys, great updates as usual. A quick question- has anyone ever won 2 EPTs before? I'm guessing so, but has any Brit?

Just wondering, Mark Teltscher really is on the brink of something massive here. Poker can be judged only by results and if he gets this one, he might just make himself the mose successful English player for some time.

Not sure Roland (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=384) De Wolfe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=384), Ram (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359) Vaswani (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=359), Devilfish etc will be too chuffed about that. Mark plays every single tournament the World has to offer, I can only imagine how much he's spent in buy-ins.

Hey guys, great updates as usual. A quick question- has anyone ever won 2 EPTs before? I'm guessing so, but has any Brit?

Just wondering, Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) really is on the brink of something massive here. Poker can be judged only by results and if he gets this one, he might just make himself the mose successful English player for some time.

No precedent - Teltscher would be the first double champ...  Here's what the Pokerstars Profile has to say about the Snapper:

Mark has already had enormous success at EPTs – he won EPT2 London for £280,000 and came 11 th at the Grand Final for €33,500. Sandwiched between those two successes was another huge win  - the $5,000 NLHE tournament at the Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas, Nevada - for a further $374,965. As of 2007, he has made nearly a million dollars in live tournament winnings. Mark comes from a backgammon and bridge background – and was an Under 18 bridge champion.

Tikay, Compo Jen and I just had a fascinating five minute conversation with Greg Raymer who was talking about his his love of limit hi/lo and limit stud hi/lo and triple draw. His insights are great, if you ever get just a minute of his time, you could learn so much.

Sander Lylloff gets it all in preflop with Ahrt 9s against Greg Dyer's pushing Kc Th...
Flop:  Js 3d Jc
Turn:  Qh  ("Ooooh," go the audience, at the glorious possibilities...)
River:  3h

And a double through for the Danish player.

"Sander Lylloff is better known for backgammon than poker – in fact, some consider him one of the best players in the world. He took up backgammon after failing to get into university, and before that he was a junior chess champion. He's no stranger to EPTs and won a side event at the Monte Carlo Grand Final in Season 2. He and fellow finalist Mark Teltscher are room-mates here in Barcelona but claim there won't be a fight if one of them ends up busting the one!"

Mika vs. Mark... three bets to get it all in on the turn, Mark Teltscher calling the final one which put him in, covered, with a board of: 9c 4s Kh 6s

Kd 4h for Mark
vs. Kc Js for Mika

A lot of outs for the Finn, but the river is the Tc doubling Mark Teltscher through.  "You had a lot of outs," he says, helpfully, as he stacks his stack which has regained Monster status.

With 2,743,000 chips, Mark Teltscher is understandably in a preflop raising mood.

He just got involved with Greg Dyer, who promptly re-raised him 600k
He gets handed a slip of paper with the payouts on it while he considers his decision... and takes his sweet time in passing.  He's shown K-9 for his trouble by a stacking Greg.

Sander Lylloff raises under the gun to 60k; Mika Paasonen pushes all in.  He's the short stack, and he sees a threeway flop of:
2h 7c Js
Turn:  9h  Sander and Greg Dyer check
River:  Kd  Sander checks, and Greg reaches for chips.  Mika paces, knowing this can't be good.... 60k gets rid of Sander and Greg shows Ks Ts

Ad 7d in Mika's hand so the river was the card which busted him...

Mika Paasonen finishes in 4th place, winning €301,000

Greg Dyer -- 1,982,000
Sander Lylloff -- 922,000

Sander ends up all-in against Mark.

Sander:

Ac Kd

Mark:

Ad Qs

Board:

Tc Aspades 2h 9s 4c

Sander doubles through drastically changing our chip counts.

Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) -- 1,619,000
Greg Dyer -- 1,985,000
Sander Lylloff -- 1,829,000

Considering the final table started at 6.30pm, this must be the fastest EPT table I've seen since I started covering them.

Flop:

Check from Greg, Mark bets 300k, Greg calls.

Turn:

Greg checks again, Mark says, "I'll just check if I have a heart," and promptly moves in. Greg nods and folds.

Teltscher raises to 62k, Sander makes it 212k. Teltscher quickly calls.

Flop:

The ultimate raggy flop.

Sander bets 200k, Mark makes it 500k and Sander passes.

The restart has seen a little more caginess, after a record-breakingly speedy decline of final table numbers.  Down to three so quickly, but these three don't look like the sort to just pass the blinds around for hours.  We hope.

2s 6h Jd   Check to Mark Teltscher who bets 32k, Greg Dyer calls.
Turn:  3c  Greg checks, Mark checks.
River:  Jh  check-check   Greg's K-4 is good...

Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona: Final Day - Interactive

Greg raises to 72k. Sander calls.

9s Jd 4s

Sander checks, Greg says, "Eleven... I mean a hundred and ten" meaning 110k, Teltscher pulls him up and he's forced to bet the minimum 24k. Sander calls.

7d

Sander checks, and Greg fires a proper big bet. 140k. Sander makes the call.

4c

Greg bets 330k . Sander says, "Call." Greg nods and shows 8c 6c. Sander's pair of fives are good.

Greg is down to just 607k. But that's still enough to come over the top.

Greg Dyer loses more chips now, he's down to 360k now. Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) bet all the way of the T-J-J-4-K and Greg called him down only to find that the Brit had managed to hit on the river with K-7.

Blinds are now 15k/30k with a 3k ante.

Mark raises to 90k, Sander makes it 270k. Greg and Mark pass. Sander shows deuces.

Greg pushes in preflop for 358k...call from Sander Lylloff.

Kc Qd for the all in American...
Ahrt 5s for the caller taking a shot at knocking out a short stack with his rag Ace...

Flop:  7c 7d Kh
Turn:  2d
River:  7s

Double through for Greg, chip counts:

Mark Teltscher  2,493,000
Sander Lylloff  2,190,000
Greg Dyer  740,000

Heads up flop of 9c 9h Td...  Greg Dyer bets out 40k and Mark (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) Teltscher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=263) raises to 120k.  Greg moves in.  Mark bows his head and starts to talk, then sort of runs out of steam after, "You have a small pair...or is it a Ten?  Another bluff?" and just throws his hand away.  Greg has pulled back to 850k and is happily giving the bigger stacks (and roommates) a run for their money, raising from the button the very next hand and taking some more blinds.

Then it's Mark's turn, pass pass, but when Sander raises the following hand he finds small blind Greg re-raising.  The last time this situation occurred I seem to recall Sander throwing his hand away like it was on fire, but this time it takes 35 seconds.

More final shots, still has a large crowd including Johnny Chan, who can't seem to get a seat and is standing at the back. Greg Dyer had made a spirited fightback up to 1 million chips, but just folded a 270k bet to a re-raise from Sander Lylloff, leaving the young American from Minnesota shortish once more. Although a lot of the press would love to see him back in this.

Mark -- 2,493,000
Sander -- 2,190,000
Greg -- 522,000

Our attention might be drifting between tikay talking anecdotes and working hard from the sofa in the press room and the EPT Live feed but we know a big hand when it happens, and this was one:  Greg Dyer raised, Sander Lylloff re-raised and in a matter of seconds Greg was all in and facing the Ahrt Ad of Lylloff with his Kc 8d.  Having held on, dwindling and doubling, with a tenacity which deserves his nice payday, Greg's final board came down:
Ts 3d 2c...4h...Irrelevantrivercard

So Greg Dyer is eliminated in 3rd place, winning €388,800

Well, Mark Teltscher is so hyper that at least he can't ever be accused of slowrolling - his "CALL!" all in preflop with Kd Kh came a split second after Sander made The Big Raise...with Jc Th.

Flop:  Jh Qh 7h
Turn:  Jd
River:  4c

So Mark Teltscher, coming so close to making history by becoming a double EPT champ, doesn't - 2nd for (officially) €673,000

And so Sander Lylloff is the Pokerstars.com EPT Barcelona Champion, winning €1,170,700

The first words of the new EPT Champion, interviewed by Kara Scott:
"You've just won the EPT, you must feel brilliant."
"What?"
(repeat sim.) "I was a bit lucky there."

It's Q&A time in the press room now as Mark and Sander take the stage (literally - the press room is usually a nightclub).

To Mark:  "Why didn't you win?"
"I got all my money in with a pair of Kings against Jack Ten.  90%...10% (Pause)  But if anyone could win instead of me it's this very good friend of mine. I am very very happy for my friend that he's won this tournament."  They both seem touchingly sincere in their mutual congratulations.

Sander doesn't say much in front of the big crowd of journalists, but he seems to be chatting away to individuals with dictaphones.  Mark allots the press a half hour for questions, and everyone starts to wind down...

I think the next step is to ;stickaforkinme;
