This is what I would like to know, does anyone think this law is going to be policed? The Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: The_duke on September 01, 2007, 05:19:39 PM Rileys in Chester isn't a Casino so does this mean the £20 freezeout is caput.
And will the style police raid my conservatory on a Wednesday night. And will I stay sober enough to keep track of this thread ??? Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: doubleup on September 01, 2007, 06:44:13 PM From the Gambling Commission website:
The Gambling Act 2005 does not allow the grant of a licence to provide poker only. Poker is considered a casino game, and commercial operators wishing to provide poker must apply for the relevant operating licence. See Applying for a Licence for details. Limited stake poker (£10 per person per day in clubs, £5 per person per day in pubs) can be played without an operating licence, providing that the regulations relating to equal chance gaming and the code of practice on equal chance gaming are adhered to. Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: Tractor on September 01, 2007, 07:19:14 PM Now all we have to do is see if they police this.
Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: Martu on September 01, 2007, 08:01:34 PM £10 per person per day in clubs, £5 per person per day in pubs It just makes me despair. I'm not a high stakes player by any stretch of the imagination, but £10 freezeouts aren't even worth the trip to a poker club. The law is woefully out of touch with reality. How much can you stake in a bingo club in a day? More than 10 pounds I would think. And that's a game of pure skill. (Although thinking about it there may be bingo analogy of table selection... I suppose it's +EV to pick a club where the other players are too slow, aged and forgetful to follow the pace of the bingo caller) Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: redsimon on September 02, 2007, 08:02:36 AM Now all we have to do is see if they police this. Seem to have employed over 1500 more compliance staff according to The Guardian. Be interesting to see who they target. I think Poker in The Pub leagues were free so not touched but unlicensed clubs must be expecting a visit soon... Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: Tractor on September 02, 2007, 10:04:34 AM I really dont play many tournys at our local card club but play the cash games after, looks like we might be going back to private home games.
Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: robbiebox on September 02, 2007, 03:15:00 PM I do believe that private members clubs (eg Sports clubs, con/labour clubs etc) that have a club gaming license which a lot do, can offer poker games with unlimited stakes.
So higher stakes bigger tournaments can run legally outside the Casino environment. However Card only clubs are declared illegal as the members club must be set up primarily for a purpose other then gambling (poker). It is only clubs without this license that are limited to £10 stakes and max payout of£250 ( in effect limiting a £10 comp to 25 players max) In Pubs it is £5 with max payout of £100 (in effect limiting to 20 players max) As Martu said the law is out of touch for Pubs/Clubs without this license. The official document is here with table showing the limits right at bottom on last page. http://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/UploadDocs/Contents/Documents/Code%20of%20practice%20equal%20chance%20gaming.pdf Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: Tractor on September 02, 2007, 04:59:28 PM This new law includes the following statement "Poker clubs will be limited to a stake of £10 per game" Whats that mean then ? is it clubs that aren't Casinos ??? Does one hand constitute a game? From there website- Prizes set out in the regulations are for a game and not a hand of poker Title: Re: New Gaming Law Post by: Ecosse on September 02, 2007, 05:21:16 PM All I can say is I'm glad i've never wasted a vote in my life on the current bunch of losers we call the government. There all so twisted and far up their own ass it's frightening. I'll bet a few of the labour cronies have had pockets well lined for this utter catastrophy of legislation, especially when taking the DTD venue into consideration. Dougie. |
