Title: Digital Cameras..... Post by: KingPoker on September 02, 2007, 12:19:48 PM Right im looking for some advice really on a digicam
I have been scouting around on the net for them but obviously there are so mnay available that i just thought it would be easier if people on here could tell me what one they have and roughly how much it cost and how good it is (AND IF YOUR REALLY FEELING IN A HELPFUL MOOD MAYBE A SAMPLE PICTURE ASWELL......) I like the new one they are using for the live updates and I also i saw Red Dog post some pictures of some birds in a tree using the zoom feature from quite a fair distance away so would love to know the make and model that one was. And help or suggestions much appreciated. KP Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: madasahatstand on September 02, 2007, 12:59:45 PM ive got a nikon coolpix with 6 mega pixels. its got a movie record feature too. the camera takes great pictures. it cost about £240 with a good sized memory card
thjis is a pic of a tiny mushroom growing on a tree. i took it with the close up feature by hand, not tripod. i took a movie of a bee i could upload to youtube if you are interested in this camera. the quality was superb:) Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: The_duke on September 02, 2007, 01:02:00 PM When I went searching for one I had exactly the same problem -- thousands available and the techno jargon for the ignorant (yours truly) was hurting my head. It all depends want you want out of a camera. Do you want to take holiday snaps and family gatherings a few times a year. Or are you looking to take professionally crafted pictures like Red & Shogun (Carl ,if you read this thread give KP the benefit of you expertise). Me I am in the former bracket and got a Sony Cybershot (6mpix) from CostCo £140 + Vat. its a point and press with limited zoom but fits the bill...
http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=DSC-W30&site=odw_en_GB&pageType=Overview&imageType=3D&category=DCC+Digital+Still+Cameras Don't know how to compress picture enough to show example (see ignorance is bliss) Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: The_duke on September 02, 2007, 01:06:26 PM Sorted -- Dolmen in Co Clare (sorry still cr*p removed silly attempt at posting picture))
Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: bone1986 on September 02, 2007, 01:25:42 PM I only have a point and press Fuji 5 meg, but it's the second Fuji I've had and they perform very well in daylight and at night. I have a friend who is a bit of a photo nut and he uses a Fuji.

Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: KingPoker on September 02, 2007, 01:54:31 PM Tha nks very much so far,
Mad= Camera looks superb but a bit of my price bracket- Im looking to spend around 100-150 quid really but anything decent under a 100 woud make me happier. Duke=Yes i was looking at the sony cybershot yesterday and they do them on ebuyer for around 93 pounds now. Bone= Graet Pics and looks like a great camera from the photos taken (gotta love them more coz they vegas in them) but how much for the fuji? Im pretty sure Reds is the same as the one they use for updating or Silo has the same one or something like that. Im pretty sure its a Canon aswell. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: bone1986 on September 02, 2007, 02:29:12 PM You can get a good Fuji finepix 8 meg for around £135.
Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: Nakor on September 02, 2007, 06:03:15 PM Pentax Optio A20 - great piece of kit.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000I6FJ16/interactiveda3006-21 Review - http://www.ephotozine.com/article/Pentax-Optio-A20-1 I was a complete digi camera novice but the A20 is easy to use, will let you learn photography as you learn to use the camera if you want more then point and shoot, but the point and shoot is great as well. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: RioRodent on September 02, 2007, 06:03:58 PM I have a Canon Ixus iZoom... about the size of a packet of 10 king-size cigs.

Post by: Geo the Sarge on September 02, 2007, 07:03:51 PM I also had the canon Izus, cracking camera. Attached a pic from gibraltar, you can see the great depth given. unfortunatley some knobber stole it.
I now have a fuji (£99 offer with 2GB card and x2 Lithium batts with charger at Jessops) and is quite good. Worth checking out your local Jessops, they deal with all the available cameras and are about to close down quite a few shops so there should be a few bargains available. Other things such as battery life, size, storage capacity are important (but secondary in my book usually). I've got a Fuji F610, which is now about 3 years old. 6M, and one of the best you could get for the price when it was new (I bought it of a photographer friend about 2 years ago). Still a cracking camera, the battery doesn't last that long however - but I usually have the charger with me if I need it. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... A phone with 5mp and optical zoom? What make is it? The phone doesn't have optical zoom. I was saying that's what you should look for on a digital camera. The reason I mentioned the phone was that even mobile phones now have 5M cameras, so it's not too much to ask form a dedicated digital camera. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: luckyblind on September 02, 2007, 08:44:53 PM Canon Digital camera's are usually very good quality, packed with useful features and important for a lot of people - very easy to use. I have a compact 5million pixel IXUS from about 3 yrs ago and also the Digital SLR model before Blondes new one. Both have served well and take great pictures.
Nikon would be my second choice, closely followed by Pentax. If going for a Sony get one with Carl Ziess lens. Older Fuji's pixel ratings used to be misleading as it is was software enhanced rather than the CCD having the stated number of pixels. Not in electronics anymore but used to manage shops that did a few years ago. Canon camera's were very rarely returned for repair. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... I think you'll find it does. It offers 12 mega pixels with the digital zoom. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: lazaroonie on September 02, 2007, 10:58:12 PM i have a konica minolta Dimage Z6 - I picked it up half price cos Konica dont make cameras anymore. I liked the 10 X optical zoom, and it also takes all sorts of other lenses, like the 3 x telephoto lens I just bought, which means it has up to 30 x optical zoom.
really handy for us perverts :) Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Can't remember the model numbers but it used to be that Fuji always stated the biggest pixel rating - pretty sure they were first to offer 6M but they something called interpolation (I think- memory a bit hazy!) to get this figure. They may have changed this since. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: MPOWER on September 03, 2007, 11:23:12 AM On the subject of digital cameras.
If you viewed your pictures on your pc would they be stored anywhere on your pc even if you did not save them. i.e using the usb? lead plugging one end in the camera the other in the pc. The reason for this is Boots Murdered our memory card, the whole card was full of pics the day/week our daughter was born. So we have no pics of her when she was born etc. We sent the memory card to specialist companies but they could not recover anything off the card. Regards M Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: kinboshi on September 03, 2007, 11:25:13 AM Doesn't sound promising M. If you view the pictures that are still on the camera via a USB cable, the computer in effect considers the camera to be an external drive, and pulls them directly from the camera (rather than transferring them to your computer's drives first).
Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: Graham C on September 03, 2007, 12:03:00 PM Have you tried to recover them yourself M? I had to get some file recovery software a couple of years ago when some numpty formatted my hard drive and thought I'd give it a go on my memory cards and it brought back loads of stuff that was deleted.
Worth a try, you can usually download a trial version that will show you what you can recover, then you may have to pay to actually recover it. Title: Re: Digital Cameras..... Post by: Suited_Jock on September 03, 2007, 02:16:50 PM (http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1268/1312425652_f38c4b73cd.jpg)
