People (including myself), often feel compelled to post on here when poker isn't working out right.  Whether it be a bad beat, a bad ruling, or just to talk about the poker gods contriving to work against them.

Well tonight, it's worked out a little different for me.

Playing cash tonight, and early doors the cards weren't kind.  But I was patient, and willing to except what I was dealt, and my focus was spot on.  I had to mix it up a bit.  I've been playing two 6-seater tables, remembering that this is where I built my bankroll, this is where I play.

I know I'm not the best out there - far from it.  I know I'm still a beginner.  But against the players I've been playing tonight - I've been feeling like I've got this game under control (whilst quite aware that it's merely an illusion).  I've raised in the right spots, called when it's right, and laid down hands when it's proved to be the right thing to do.  These are the nights when you remember why you play. 

OK, the cards have fallen nicely (after the slow start), and that always helps.  But for whatever reason, I've been able to play my 'A' game tonight - and it's paid.  Why can't it always be like this?

Absolutely. It wasn't a boasting post - I'm sure everyone feels like that every now and again - just that people only tend to post when they lose.

Nice going.   Not sure why we get side tracked from time to time.  I think sometimes I play because I just fancy a game, regardless of how I feel which is more than likely when I don't do so well.

I think that's the way it will stay.  I don't play tournaments - except for a bit of fun.  I don't think I'm a good tournament player either.  But tournaments being what they are, anyone can win the odd one.

I'm definitely going to go back to doing what I do best.  6-seater cash games at 50c/$1 level.  I enjoy it, and I can win.  Surely that's enough?

I am one of the biggest culprits for moaning off on here when I hit a bad streak and never think to post when its good.

Well this month has been a good one for me and I love poker again :-)

Actually over the last couple of months I have played very little to give myself a break and stuck mostly to league games and freerolls and it feels great....no pressure.

Im not getting any better hands than usual but I seem to judge it right when to make a move and when to lay down.

Tomorrow/today I am playing in the 4th leg of a women poker tour and so far I havent done great. This time I am going to be in the best frame of mind I have been in a long time, I wont be so nervous as I know many of the players and im familiar with the structure and for the first time ever I feel positive....I bet I go out with AA on the first hand now LOL...but most important I am going to enjoy this one :-)

WP boshi, i grind cash like yourself and this week has been a real yoyo. Came good tonight with good game selection and remembering why playing super aggressively is my edge over nits. GL and keep it up.

Oh, and for once a bb post that is actually a proper bb.

I've noticed that during my losing periods, the aggression leaves my game.  I think it's partly the cause, and partly the symptom as well.  At the levels I play at, the aggression factor is certainly key.  I go for the patient aggressive approach usually, but I see others with a more 'carefree' approach doing well too - so I try to incorporate this as well from time to time.


Thing is though, if I'd had the 33 I'd have played it the same way and would have been criticising my play for getting my money in behind (but with double the stack sat in front of me).

This post sums up abit of a big a moment i have had in my poker learning i have had recently. I have always been a slightly profitable cash player but blamed the fact i wasn't making the big money on varience and whatever else i could think of. Which is why I have always had more success at the robotic form of  poker like sng's.

In the last month i have experimented with lagging it up  in cash games and playing tons more especially in position. God have i been missing out, firstly its more interesting and playing this way exploits other players nitting it up by playing more post flop and getting in more marginal spots. Im not anywhere near good yet but i feel like i see the light in cash games now.

This post will make no sense in the morning im sure of that, drinking is good.

this is most peoples problem, they never accept that they might be playing bad... when they win its down to skill and when they lose its variance. I guess its hard to compain as these people fuel the poker economy, but most of the time, "variance" is nothing more then people playing bad and not accepting it.
