Title: Witter v Harris
Post by: kinboshi on September 07, 2007, 10:12:16 PM
On SkySports 1 now.

I have Witter to win in the middle rounds.  Hopefully a good fight though.

Why do I never put my money where my mouth is? Thought Harris looked tired, Witter was too fast and hit too hard for him. Great combination that hurt Harris, and a cracking left hook to finish it.

No way he'd beat Hatton though.

I missed it,  ahh .  I was going to watch this and forgot,  I was distracted by Alien V's Predator on film4

Harris was disappointing. I thought he'd put up a better fight than that.

Still not convinced with Witter. If he ever got the Hatton fight he's been after all these years, he'd get destroyed. fortunately for him, Hatton swims in bigger pools these days.

Might be a decent bit of money for Hatton to fight Witter at the City of Manchester stadium though somewhere in the not too distant future.

Absolutely, but I think it would be a nice easy pay-day for Hatton.  If he beats Mayweather it could certainly be argued that he deserves an easy defence for a nice purse.

That will change if Mayweather beats Hatton.

Witter would cause Hatton a lot of problems if he has his fighting head on like he did on Friday night, the contrasting styles would make it a very tricky fight imo of course.  His victory over Harris is as good as anything Hatton has done with the exception of beating Tszyu.

But you still think Hatton would win?

Although I agree that Witter fought well, Harris didn't offer a lot in terms of putting him under pressure at all in the fight.

I think if Hatton wins or loses in December, the fight against Witter is a definite possibility.

I don't dislike Witter, but I think there's a gulf in class between him and Hatton.
I think the reason Hatton has a better chance than most are giving him against Mayweather is that he's expert at closing distance and stopping fighters work at long range. against Mayweather that has to be his main objective.
Doing it against Witter would be a lot easier. It'd be a mauling

No, I don't dislike him either - but I also think that Hatton is in another class to him.  But I guess some people think that Mayweather is in a different class to Hatton - and I disagree with them.  It's all about opinion, until they 'get it on'.

Well if I had to pick a winner I'd pick Hatton.  But given that I'd expect Hatton to be long odds on I'd be having a nibble on Witter as he has tools which will trouble Hatton.  Its a classic clash of styles the come forward fighter against the counter puncher.  I think Witter is underrated but then a lot of that is down to himself as he has been prone to putting on some awful shows, but when his head is right like it was last night and against N'dou a couple of years back he is a really classy operator.

The Witter fight is Hatton's chance to get back into the big time after the annihilation Mayweather will serve up in December.

Witter's last pay day before he calls iut a day.

Hatton to beat Witter.

Annihilation? Seriously doubt it.

Nem's fallen for the 'pound for pound' hype hook line and sinker. ;)

Mayweather is a great boxer and even as a devoted Hatton supporter I still have to have Mayweather a favourite going into the fight. I believe Hatton has all the tools to beat him and if anything, it'll be his enormous strength of character that'll get him through on the night.

Hatton won't get annihilated. win or lose, it'll be a close fight

I hope that's what Mayweather thinks, He'll get a shock (IMO).

Also think Witter is rubbish, he's just been lucky that Hatton excepted there's been almost no decent Europeans in his weight category - even when he went up a weight.

I think 'rubbish' is very harsh. he's got a quirky switch-hitting thing going on that makes him a difficult proposition to stand infront of. he hits you from angles most other fighters don't and those looping hooks'll put you to sleep.

If Hatton gave Witter the fight end of next year, I'd be looking forward to it

Witter has lost one fight out of 36 and that was a UD against Zab Judah; when Judah was in his pomp - unbeaten and before the Tszyu fight.

He isn't a rubbish fighter and he has done well to get where he is today.

OK rubbish might be harsh but I don't think he's as good as his record looks - don't think he's fought many decent fighters (mind you upto about 5 fights before the Tszyu fight neither had Hatton really).

I'm not knocking them, it's not really their fault there has been a bit of a dearth of talent at their weight unless like Hatton you can crack the american market and get to take on the yanks and the south americans (or others who are now based in America).

I do think Witter will get shown up by Hatton unless he get's to fight a few decent american fighters first (he's too easy to get inside and Hatton's quick enough to take advantage of that).
