Post by: Ironside on September 12, 2007, 07:50:03 PM
but i think scotland are going to struggle tonight

i would be ahppy if we got a goal and only lost by 2

so 3-1 france would be a good result for me

if we get a point then i will sing at the karoke in cardiff

Come on The Scots, would be good to have more than one home nations at Euro 2008...assuming we get there.

I'm with Celtic in the fact that I don't really care much for Scotland at international level, but what a F**king result!!

I had a feeling, not sure if I just got caught up in the euphoria of it all or not but I was convinced Scotland would get a result.

Well done to Alex Mcleish and his team, an absolutely tremendous effort from all the players and the backroom staff.

Scotland 9 7 0 2 17 7 21
Italy 9 6 2 1 15 7 20
France 9 6 1 2 15 3 19
Ukraine 8 4 1 3 10 9 13

Hows that for a group? A long way to go though - but the performances recently have got me interested again after being so disappointed under Brown & Vogts. At last we have a Scotland team playing for one another & willing to go toe to toe with anyone again.

Credit where credit's due.  Great result.

What are the odds for England and Scotland to be drawn in the same group in the Euros?

Yep full credit to Mcleish and the players - on paper in fairness the team looks weak, no big players, a Man Utd reserve as captain and hopes on McFadden who cant get a game at Everton.

But yet again - they show the addage that football success is based on good players working hard.  Yes France are a far superior team on paper, but u have to take that on to the pitch.  often that doesnt happen and when it doesnt by working that bit harder you can sometimes get a result.  Bit like Northern Ireland v England 2 yrs ago.

Well done Scotland and good luck in the rest of the group

Both have a lot of work to do to get there yet....

We saw that with England as well.

Barry, Heskey, Wright-Phillips - none of these players get a start if Second Choice Steve has a fit squad to pick from. They come in and play above themselves.

sitting above the World champions after 9 games with 3 to go , having beaten France home and away ,  2 games to come at home  , the suggestion that Scotland will qualify may have been comedy at the start of the campaign , right now , as we are top of our group and ahead of 2 of the biggest national football teams in the world , it is a reality.

just sad some people can't give credit where credit is due.

i will give scotland credit and man they proved me wrong last night and i am so over the moon

i still dont expect us to quailfy we need to get 7 points out of the last 9 including games against the ukraine and italy

dont get me wrong i will be the first out celebrating if we make it but i dont think we will and at present i will

say we are about 20-1 to make it to the finals but it will make it all the more special if we make it

rather than the normal "we could do it this time" followed by the last minute failure

come on big eck your the man that can do it for us

I think the main game for Scotland will be the Georgia away game..if they don't bugger that one up they will qualify. I'm sure they'll beat the Ukraine..and if Italy wins all their games a draw between Italy and Scotland would do them both nicely and should see them both through so that should be the final point.

no reason why we can't beat Ukraine and Georgia , we have proved we can beat any team at Hampden and the players will be really up for these games imo. I think a big factor in the improved results is the resurgence of the Tartan Army , there is an atmosphere and buzz about the international games now and i think that'll come into play in the next 2 games.

even if we dont make it to the Championships , this campaign will have been the best performance i have seen from Scotland so far , i will have great memories from these matches , and just hope we can make the Finals , one time , just one time.

I agree..other than Scotland ussually making a mess of things against teams like Georgia they should really be OK now.

a draw aint food enought for italy as france are only a point behind them

If scotland get 6 points against Ukraine and Georgia and italy manage to get a victory against Georgia before playing us they know that a point against us and a win against the faroes in the midweek game following their visit to hampden is enough.  7 points for both teams is enough.

france cant still get to 28 points with 3 wins
italy with 7 points would be on 27 points

To be fair there's plenty Scots who can never give england any credit for good results so Bolt is entitled to his wee digs.

Having seen the Scottish press this morning I will never moan about the english press ever again. Did we actually win the the World Cup lastnight?????

Radio Clyde are asking in all seriousness if this was the "Greatest result in Scottish football history"

We must have a very low opinion of ourselves if a victory in a qualifying section is now deemed the greatest result ever.

We used to qualify for these things on a regular basis and at one time we had a better record in qualifying than countries like England, France, Holland etc...

Given where we've been in the last 5-10 years then it is an amazing result but let's be honest it's not as if we played France off the park in the way we wiped the floor with England in 1967. We did not match France in terms of talent or ability. That's what we should really be aiming for.

It was a fantastic result and the euphoria is understanble but for folk to suggest it's the greatest result ever is frankly embarassing
