It sounds like your LNB is faulty, thats the bit on the end of the dish. The reason some channels work and other dont is the LNB is split into four seperate frequencies hence why some channels come through ok and others dont. You can pick up LNBs cheap on EBAY, if its Sky+, Multirrom or HD you will need a Quad LNB, which are a bit more expensive. Title: Re: Help With Sky Post by: cdw1111 on September 13, 2007, 09:54:16 PM suggest you go to digitalspy satt forum,have you tried unplugging the cable at the back,refitting it whilst holding back up button for approx 20 secs,this forces the box into a software reset it takes about 10 mins.a black screen tells you that this is in progess.then after a couple of mins turn it back on.
i have done this several times over the years with different boxes(sky/sky+).however this is moving a live cable and can be a bit dodgy(ive never had a prob). it has solved a few glitzs over the years,but please troll there forums if you dont feel confident col. Chances are they won't be able to fix it but you will then be able to arrange an engineer callout, which they will want to charge you for, £50 I think. Do not pay it. Say that you are already paying for a service that isn't working and you would like to be put through to cancellations. Once you are through to them, they will give you a free engineer appointment to stop you cancelling. It has worked on 3 occaisions for me and people I know. It is also a tip on money saving expert. It's the cancellations department who have the power, they are actually called 'turnaround' or 'stopthemfromleavingatallcosts'.
I have had the no sattelite signal is being recieved on some channels, it wasn't the LNB though, it was the power supply of the digi box. I had 2 boxes running of the same LNB and the other was fine. I got a free engineer visit and he replaced the box with a refurb. We got a nice small amstrad box, about 1/3 the size of the old Grundig / Thompson boxes. Good Luck. Correct, in the older boxes the capacitors dry out in the power supply also causing picture freeze/channel loss. But as Tv Aerial/Sky installation is my living i can asure you 7/10 times it is the LNB. I would definatly try and get a free callout/reapir as Rich has allready stated. |
