Hi Guys,

I want to pick your brains - I've just watched Annettes_15's blind play 180 SnG on poker X factor

Do you know of anyone who plays "blind" in tournaments be it on line or live  - maybe for fun / skill / or in order to improve their game?

Could you name any pros who do this?

Is it a common technique?

Have you done it and is it helpful?

its a regular thing at the 20pound rebuy,bingo nights at gala for all of a table to go all in blind first hand..thats just cause its bingo anyway,lol..

I've tried the playing blind on stars in exactly the same tournament in the past (trying out some ideas from Snyder's book) - and it is very interesting.  Be careful what tape you use on a TFT screen though if you try it.  Masking tape is a better idea than parcel tape....I'm sure I read somewhere about someone ruining a screen using the wrong tape.

I finished about 60th out of 180.

on pc you can use  'post -it' software that will cover your cards.  Playing blind is an excellent exercise to raise your reading awareness and can improve your play in position.  There are certain rules to start with but it can be fun. 

I might have a go at this - I have been playing far too loose lately and donking off.  I've had a losing month at poker.  I've been playing online bingo for a bit of distraction and £300 up - just proves what a luckbox I really am :D

Occasionally, where the situation and position demands eg semi short stacked around the bubble in late position into medium stacks I will push in blind

I found that if I looked and found a bag of nails I would stop myself doing it,so very occasionally in such instances I effect to look, mini dwell and then push

Success rate is high, given my image.

I've seen Kim Costa, & his brother, Peter Costa, both play large cash-games "cards unseen", & they rarely lost a Pot. They just stare at everyone else & pick up "reads".

Think i read Stu Ungar used to do this to impress his friend and then declare how good he was cos he can beat people with any two cards etc.....

I have heard about that Annette 15 game, impressive stuff.   I saw a strange game once when AndyMacloud (sp?) went all in every hand and kept rebuying... he finnished the 100 rebuy in the top 3. Not sure if that covered all the money he actually spent though during the game 

McLeod I think (could be wrong).  Yes, that was amazing to watch.  I do think he won a lot more than the amount he'd rebought for.  Would have been interesting being on his table.

I'm going to give it a go or 5 when I have the time and inclination to focus my full attention on it.

I'm happy with the numbers side of my playing, and I've been experimenting with playing a looser style in the past couple of months (still needs a bit of work), this should be a good exercise to work on my positional play.

And now, I've got a benchmark to aim for.

I once closed my eyes and tried to catch an egg thrown by my brother from 20 feet away after reading about the exploits of blind super hero Dare Devil in some old marvel comics that my dad got while out tatting.

You ended up with Egg on your face ?

Yes. When I closed my eyes, he sneaked up to within about 3 feet and smashed it on my forehead.

I'm almost sure Rod Paradise plays blind, its the only thing I can think of to explain his play  ;hide;

bB3 i played a SNG half blind where i only looked at the cards 50% of time and then only post flop

i took out half the table eventually getting HU with ITB who pushed all in blind i decided to look at my 23o before calling and losing

playing blind helps you practise getting reads on players knowing when they will fold and when they wont

Whilst playing at Bolton last year , Burnley John was on my right.
We had been having some heated banter and he declared that if the table folded round to our blinds he would move all in blind, declaring i wouldnt get to play another hand in the big blind all night....
Well the whole table heard this and the next time it came to our blinds they all folded round to John, and to his word he moved all in (we were both large stacks)..
Well I looked at my first card and it was an Ace, didnt look at my second card and called.
I had A3 he had 23o :)
Some players said i shouldnt have called but there was no way i was folding there.

Have done in live play, using position and image.
Not tried it specifically online but in most STT end games i'm pushing with anything if in position

Slight exaggeration there by Tikay - but yes, it was style I liked to use in cash games. In fact, I did this online as part of a lesson I was giving to a Canadian. As it happens, every hand I won turned out to be a bluff in the end. Obviously, I was very careful in terms of position and picking the right spots. The funny thing was, I showed every bluff and I still managed to get away with it.

After about an hour or so (playing 5-10 NL), I had turned the initial 200 into over 1200. I then declared to the student that I would play my last hand. I of course unclick the auto post before the last hand was dealt. Raising the usual 10 with 10 utg, it was no surprise to see eight or nine players call. Of course, as the last hand and being utg, there was no way I would be playing this one blind. Holding Jh-9h, and flopping J-9-9, I found myself surprised and delighted to be set all-in on the flop. As it happens, the river was an Ace and my one opponent had made a bigger boat with his A-9. All that work for nothing!

Sammy farha is very sick man.  Raising to $5000?! blind  several hands in a row on the latest high stakes episode(blinds are $300-600, $100 ante). Then continuing to play dark on the flop. Got busted twice  by the way.

I played a live cash game for 6 hours at Luton last night, one guy raised EVERY pot blind, and called EVERY opening raise blind all night, and we couldn't bust him.

cou[ple of weeks ago he played for an hour with genuine hands and was £700 down in an hour..... then resorted to his 'A' game of making it £15 preflop, £50 on the flop and £50 on the turn, then he would look once it got to the river, when i left the game he was about £800 up!!!!!
