Five Live have just said that they've heard he's gone - he texted leading players to tell them this evening. There was an emergency board meeting today but it's not clear if he quit or was pushed.

I see that Dr Joseph Venglos's price is plunging as we speak.....

Actually sitting quite close to dear old Dr Jo in the San Siro when Celtic played there earlier this year....anyway

who will replace him ? smart money has to be on either

- Rijkaard coming in from Barca, and Jose going the other way, or

- Rijkaard replacing ancelotti at Milan, Ancelotti going to Chelsea and Jose still ending up at barca.

one thing is for sure - none of these clubs are going to want to be without a manager at this crucuial stage of the season for too long....

dr jo is a great man.

he will be eufa or fifa president one day

i rember a few years a go a documentry and it was some old aston villa player saying when he became manager he intordiucted alll sorts or diets and training methods no1 had ever heard of (early 90s)  and  they all thought he was potty and a nutter.. once he got the sack they went back to the old and usual methods .   anyhow they guy said  10 years on every club in the world is now usuaing thoses diet and training methods as if they were basic things...    10 years after dr jo was laughed at by aston villa players for trying it

smart smart man ...never really given a chance at celtic or aston villa ..

Good riddance, you can only act like a right ******* if your winning. But when your teams playing crap and you can only blame the officials it gets irritating.

Hiddink has to be the choice, Abramovic has been bankrolling his efforts at the Russian FA - he's not been doing this for nothing - and he doesn't strike me as the most loyal servant of mother Russia.

Jose for Celtic :)

Title: Re: Mourinho gone???
Post by: The Baron on September 20, 2007, 01:57:27 PM
This news hasn't surprised me one bit for a few reasons.

Firstly after clearing the air with the board this summer, Mourinho has already spoken out against them twice. (Not enough money to buy the good eggs (LOL! £300 million not enough obviously) and disagreeing with his board about the top 4 playing in the Champions League) He just doesn't strike me as the sharpest knife in the draw. He tried to offer out Bryan Robson FFS! Add to that a style which Abramovich hates and some poor results recently and he's off.

I dont really mind his moaning that much - that's the sign of a winner. But some of his comments about "smaller clubs" and "uneducated players" just show what a lack of class the guy has. I'm glad he's off.

I hope Chelsea find a quality manager with a touch of class too.

As for Mourinho? I doubt Real or Barca would touch him knowing how ugly his footballing style is. He'll end up at somewhere obssessed with results and not playing styles. Somewhere like Bayern.

What are ur thoughts on this????

i think its been coming for a long time and it will ruin the premiership, he was such a good asset, as we all loved his great attitude!!

Its a sad day from my point of view, he was a brilliant character and always entertaining. Not something that can be said about most managers.

Baron what odds would you give me on him being Barca or Real Madrid manager at some point in his career?

It depends on a few factors.

In the ever changing world of football I wouldn't like to give odds as many things could be different in say 5 years. Either club's board could change or Mourinho could adopt a new footballing style for example.

But with the current boards at Real and Barca and the demand of the fans to play beautiful football, as well as Mourinho's ugly (but winning football) he wont be going there anytime soon.

madrid ruled themselves out when they his  style of football doesnt suit the real philosophy, barca? maybe ..there was alot of people on sky sports news this morning saying it was a done deal that he was going to spurs - an irish bookie even closed the betting on it , wasnt paddy power not sure who tho.

the appointment of the ex isreal manager stinks of the same situation hearts find themselves in where the chairman basically picks the team, is this a done deal or is he just a caretake boss?

id be willing to bet a few quid shevchenko starts every game now

It should be interesting to see who they get long term (someone other than this guy surely). Manager’s talk and any of the bigger name managers are going to hear how it is from Mourinho - I don't think too many would be happy with a high level of board room interference (though many that have managed RM, Barca, Milan etc might have had it before). As good an opportunity as Chelsea is to a manager to let him win things, it’s a bit of a poisoned chalice now.

The player’s reaction at the weekend will be interesting. I'll admit to taking a little pleasure should there be a mass exodus at the bridge, chaos breaks out, abramovich leaves, and they have to start ground sharing at the cottage.

Why go to a league that is dead?

He'll be proving he can win with an all conquering team. Not very impressive to be honest.

I've always thought since Porto he's lacked the real hunger to go into massive challenge though.
