European interest? Let's have a look.

Average stack right now is about 490k.

Paul Maxfield 430,000. His starting Table includes Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, & Jesse Jones, Tough, but Paul's legion of supporters think he can cope with those lil ol boys.

Dave Colclough, 251,000. Here's a text just in from Dave:

"....The blinds are 6,000 - 12,000, with a running ante of 1,000. That's 27,000 a round in case you can't use your fingers. (Yeah, he said THAT..). I have an interesting starting table. 3 stacks shorter than mine!, & probably the two most aggressive players in the world, The Grinder & Greg Raymer. Oh, & Peter Costa & Dewey Tomko".

More in a mo.....

Kev, I will find the table draw & prize structure in a bit, unless a blondeite out there happens to have them to hand. No copying & pasting from other sites though.

Tikay,
Thank you and Blonde for the cap (via Smokin).
Hope to buy you a beer someday.

Ciontinuing with the European interest.

Bo Sehistedt - aka Legato. He's on an all-American table - well, all American except him. Bo is a comedian by trade, & a well presented & smart young man with perfect English. The stength of his game, in my view, is his ability to put players on hands, he really is a formidable talent, believe me. I hope he goes well.

More soon....

One more thing Tikay, if Dave doesnt win it, would you ask him to nip the winner for a few quid on my behalf... many thanks lol ;D

On Table 52 we have Rob Hollink, 571,000. Rob has already nabbed a single payday in excess of 1 million bucks when he cleaned up in Monte Carlo & scooped some 700,000 Euros. Rob's a fascinating character. Sits there looking bored out of his mind, chin resting on hand, but just try pinching his blinds....! His table manner - looks bored, says little, but bites yer bum, reminds me very much of Mick Cook.

And Juha Helppi, 630,000. I don't know Juha personally, but he got second in Monte Carlo in 2004 & scooped $200,000. Other than that, Juha makes a habit of making Finals in Tallinn, Estonia, Helsinki, & Vienna. I think he has 7 Finals to his credit in Tallinn.

Oh no, Julian's arrived. If anyone fancies some easy money, get him H-U on Stars, on the $5 table. He's a fish heads-up.

And why on EARTH are we getting a flight to Belfast at 06.30 in the morning? - the comp don't start till 6pm. Sigh....

Ironside says "my bed is calling me". For those with a weird kinda mind, that's a strange thing, a bed that calls you. "Come to bed"". Wonder if it shouts "get up"......

OK, more about our boys.

Joe Beevers, 565,000. No need to tell you about HIM. But for those that don't know him well, his nickname should really be "The Gentleman", cos he truly is a nice guy. And been ever so helpful to tikay, & to blonde. Good Luck today Joe. Actually, Joe is a blondeite - blonde Forum, home of the Stars, not bad eh?

Paul Testud, 409,000. Paul's French, but I promise to be nice about him. Just today, that is. Paul of the roaring laugh, he has not had the best of health the last few years, & hobbles about painfully of late. But never stops lughing. Saw him in a bit of a fight at The Aviation last year, but it was just handbags stuff between two frogs.

Dave also says that in the first 7 hands, Greg Raymer has been all-in FIVE times. Greg began with 334,000, so he's clearly looking for a quick double up or bust jobbie.

Let's hope he doubles up our Dave.....

By the way, Dave says he's "in the shit". Quite.

Just finishing off the preview, two interesting names on Dave's table.

David Sklansky, from a place called Teaneck. Only in America! David very much represents "old school", and as Thewy says, it would turn the poker world upside down if Sklansky could win this.

And Isabelle. I have decided that Isabelle is in fact one of us. A Brit. So we will try & follow Isabelle. And her Mum, "Surprise", is looking in, so behave yourselves with your comments, OK boys? Isabelle has a verey aggressive game, & those yankee boys better watch out if Isabelle gets chipped up.

The News we feared....

Dave is OUT. Blinded down to $32k, with the cost of sitting still $27k per round, Dave found the first available spot to move in, he had 9-5 off, & missed. Dave Colclough out 42nd for $37,800.

Title: Re: WPT at THe Bellagio, Day Four

But some good news now....

Joe Beevers just took a nice pot down, & he has 680k now.

Evening Tikay, thought I would join you a bit earllier today. I spoke to Paul Maxfield this morning and hes feeling confident. He tells me he has a strategy for Ivey, hope it works ! :-[
Looks like Dave  got the hardest table  and Joe the easier  if there is such a thing. C'MON THE BRITS

And now bad news, this is good/bad day.

Pete Costa just lost a pot, and is down to 150k.

Title: Re: WPT at THe Bellagio, Day Four
Post by: tikay on April 22, 2005, 09:01:52 PM
I forgot to list Pete Costa amongst the Europeans, I missed his name because he's listed as a Las Vegas resident these days.

Pete was in the first comp I ever playerd in, a 20 Rebuy in Stanleys in Derby, & he was a regular in the 20 & 30 games in Gala Notts. When he comes to England these days, he gets to Gala Notts & still plays the 20 comps, & when he busts out, he sits & plays kalooki with the Greek boys. Pete's handsome brother, Kim, is a regular at Gala Notts, and a true gentleman. A big cash player, too.

I wonder if Pete is in England during Blackpool week?......

And a warm welcome to a new blondeite, TheDoc12345. Doc is Luke Smith & the beautiful Claire, Claire is in fact a well handy poker player, and her photo was on the Luton Live Update once or twice. Both are coming to Blackpool, & then off to Paris. So I will see you both in Blackpool, but I have not decided yet whether to do Paris or Vienna, it depends on the Poker 425 peeps, but would be nice to see you in Pris.

Not good news on Isabelle I am afraid.

She is down to 125k. I assume blinds are about to go up - they were 6k/12k, 1k ante, so what, 8k/16k? Whatever, thats pretty expensive per round, so she's gotta get busy now sharpish.

Good Luck Lovely Lady!

Dave has got himself into the $1,000 comp, can't say I blame him, he must feel gutted after exiting, & he had no luck at all. So not a lot of fun running round getting chip counts for us!

He's gonna send through any news he gets, & will give us a full update in about an hour, chip counts for all the names in the Biggie.

Wish I had gone out there now & done a proper Live Update, but till we get a deal sorted, it's an expensive business. But you boys seem to enjoy it, so we will see what we can do for the future Biggies.

So, Kev, Russ, Craig & me will have to try & find the latest info, & don't worry, you will hear it here the minute we hear it.

notts are struggling to find 8 players and these were the first names I came up with. Gareth was in my original list but a few members of the team objected so he was dropped (aparantley very pissed- Im not even in the top 100 players in blackpool according to him lol). There were a few I wouldve liked in there- mallu, mullah, tetlows, paperboy etc but there are only so many slots and we wanted it to be "fun" so I chose a team with character and personality (also players who have regularly beaten the notts boys this year already- get into their heads a bit that they cant beat us.) I think womble has the matching of Rob from what I have heard so lets hope he draws him.

Jamie Moult WON the 1,000 Euro Freezeout in Deauville, also 5th in the 500, tikay 6th, & tikay semi'd in the EPT there. Chris Bruce WON the Walsall Festival Omaha. If you head up the m1 to the m6 then straight up to the m55 you are more than welcome to challenge the winners of this match. Maybe we could have a league table at the end of the year on blonde? I like what we have started here tk and it is cetainly getting some interest, I believe those strange talking people from the very north of england (scotland or something) even fancy their chances.

Hi all

Good luck to Bob in his heat , he deserves it .

I am sitting in the Bellagio looking out at the fountains and will be going back down in a minute to see how the boys are doing , Phil Ivey seems to be sitting back for the moment letting the short stacks get busted , only Tuan Le is playing aggressively , not much atmosphere , mostly press watching , Joe looks really focused .

Will be home on Tuesday , going to Blackpool next , see some of you there .

Bo "Legato" must have taken a hit, Dave just told me he's down to 300k.

Isabelle is "desperately low", Dewey Tomko "looking very steady", & Joe Beevers still in the million plus club.

Don't know how i missed 600,000 in Michael Mizrachi stack

The weather here is crap today overcast and 70 , i can hear the theme from Titanic as the fountains are doing there thing , it took an hour to lose the 31st player , i think we will lose a few short stacks now everyones locked up $56,000 , next jump is to $75,000 i think .

Chris Ferguson looks like he is really enjoying it as does Victor R who knocked out Greg Raymer , seems like every other hand he has AK

Dave is still in the $1000 , don't know how he can focus after being knocked out of this one .

Chip & a chair...

David Williams was dead & buried with 40k 5 minutes ago, remember it's 60k+ per round just to sit at the table. But he has two double throughs in succesive hands, & is up to $200,000 + now.

Title: Re: WPT at THe Bellagio, Day Four
Post by: tikay on April 23, 2005, 12:09:33 AM
Thanks Simon. Dave seems quite chirpy considering how bad he must feel. He can deal with bad beats OK, but he feels he had good tables, with calling stations, but could not find hands to take 'em on with.

Stupak pushed in with pocket sevens on a flop of 943 (2 hearts) and Ivey called with Q9 hearts. Ivey's pair of nines held. He now has over 2.6 million in chips

They may as well go home. They are playing for second now.

Hi KP,

Not decided about Live Updates for Belfast yet. There does not seem a lot of interest in it, but if I feel folks do want it, then we will try & do it. And I am short of my usual team of assistants. Rhow does not arrive until Sunday, but I think Nottinghm Nick & Maid Marion are coming, if so, Maid Marion will help out I think.

Just depends if we get any interest I guess. I will make a late decision, but I will have the laptop & gear with me just in case. We have sought, & received, approval from Sean Murphy at The Cavendish Club to do the Live Updates, so we can if we want.

But it will mean me staying over an extra night, & flying back Monday instead of late Sunday. Difficult call.

He busted Stupak in 27th, so 26 left.

OK, Red Dog's questions, one at a time......

How long left? They play down to 18, or 0500 BST, which ever is soonest. I hope it's the former, cos....

Can I stay awake? Doubtful, 50/50 at best. And I leave home at 0500 to go to Belfast.....

How many can they seat in Belfast? Millions & millions, I would think, but if you mean The Cavendish, capacity is stated as 200.

Will The Cavendish sell out? My guess - just a guess - is no. Bellagio etc will knock a few players off the list, my guess is 150 maximum. But just a guess.

So on a 8 handed table, that's 72k per round.

And with the tables starting to go short handed, those blinds will whizz round.

The deep stacks are having a ball, & the short stcks are gonna feel the pain.

Move time!

Craig,

Big names. Big reputations. Big balls. But you need MORE than that to do over the Notts Boys. You need guile, cunning, skill, hunger, Thewy........

Get in the queue, & we will do you over after we have sorted out Blackpool & Luton. Maybe a combined Grosvenor team may give you half a chance, but there aint a Casino in the UK that can beat Gala Notts. Sorry fella, the facts am the facts.

Reading cardroom is sadly defunct but we are the undeafted champions after marmalising Luton in a match about five years ago.

What a team:

Chapman,
Trumper (I think)
Coombes
Brackstone
Griffith
Spillane
Hawkins
Pound

"The Unbeatables"

Play has really tightened up and we have only lost another 7 players

It is costing 60k a round now

Paul T 500k

Paul M 730

Juha H 870

Joe B 840

Rob H 300

The chip leaders are

Tuan Le 1.3m

Hasan Habib 1.4m

Arnold Spee 1.4m

John Smith 1.5m

Chris Ferguson 1.6m

Michael Mizrachi1.6m

Phil Ivey 2.6m

The three that i have been most impressed with today are Hasan , Chris and Phil , at least 2 of these should make the final .

Yes Keith i was there , your man Ivey is the most focused player i have ever seen , different class !

Simon,

As I said yesterday, he is the only player who has ever intimidated me at the poker table.. it felt like my cards were faceup when I played him in a pot. If it wasn't for Moneymaker hitting a 7 outter on the river against him he would have been World Champion in 2003 I'm sure. The perfect poker player.

Craig,

Well, the Walsall team looks like a day trip from the Darby and Joan club...

Evening all. Just back from Luton. The average age on the final table is about 20. I think Luton can take on Notts Gala without the need for any international signings - home grown talent is there for sure. As for the stuff in Vegas, how can it even be classified as a poker event if our Luton boys can't play until they are 21? It's like when Ronnie O'Sullivan had to wait until he was 16 before he could turn pro.

But we ain't quite alone yet. We still have Malcolm Harwood, Richard Pipe, Sheriff Fatman who did so well at Luton last week, and a few other diehards......

And a man - I won't tell you his screen name, that'd be unfair, but his middle name on his e-address is "firework". Our very own arsonist. And no, arsonist does not mean what you boys think it does.......

15k, 30k, 4k ante. So, lets say 7 handed, thats 88k per round, & you are in the blinds nearly 30% of the hands.

Bet that button is HOT......!

1 Phil Ivey $ 3,400,000
2 Hasan Habib $ 3,200,000
3 Michael Mizrachi $ 1,600,000
4 Tuan Le $ 1,500,000
5 John Phan $ 1,400,000
6 Sammy Arzoin $ 1,300,000
7 Chris Ferguson $ 1,300,000
8 Joe Beevers $ 1,150,000
9 George Miller $ 1,000,000
10 John Smith $ 1,000,000

Ivey is never mentioned in dispatches, but his chip count keeps rising... The longer they take to get to the final table, the bigger his lead will be.

Also, I believe Ivey stakes Habib. If that is still true, an interesting conflict of interests looms...

Wow, if Ivey & Habbib clashed, there WOULD be fireworks!

Who is Hawkeye Keith, is he your younger bro?

If that is the guy who came 2nd last year, then it is Daniel Negreanu who stakes him. well it was last year anyhow.

Negreanu has given up putting players in.

He was losing bundles apparantly.

Hawkeye could be the 'Stars player with a Birmingham City badge as his picture. Or maybe not.

One time leader John Smith (he's not bitter) is OUT 20th.

He had 800,000 a few minutes ago, so must have been a tidy pot.....

Like buses, we wait for an age, then two come along. Well, we have TWO exits now!

In a three way pot, Taun Le busts TWO oppos, he has 99, v KK v AK, flop was JJ9.

Bo Legato, sadly, was one of the two casualties, don't know the other yet.

17 left, & play has finished for the day.

So that's it for tonight, I'm off to grab a shower, iron some shirts, get packed & off to Belfast.

Big thanks to Dave Colclough for spending all that time giving us updates afer busting out. He was crippled when his 88 was pipped by 99, & on such wafer thin margins depends success or failure. Would LOVE to have seen him mixing it with Habbib & Ivey deep in the comp, but there will be another day.

And Mr Maxfield is still in there with a big chance so we ain't dead yet.

It was Mark Rose who was the other bustee, on the night's final hand.
