Title: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on September 20, 2007, 06:49:26 PM Got sent this link via some contacts in Las Vegas.
http://www.lvrj.com/news/9892997.html I've never met the guy, only seen him on TV, but on the basis of his table antics alone he's probably the most irritating of all the well-known pro's (even above Hellmuth!) This news doesn't improve matters. Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: TheChipPrince on September 20, 2007, 06:53:46 PM He always looks moody on HSP, dont mind him tho... Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: snoopy1239 on September 20, 2007, 06:56:04 PM I'm not condoning his actions, even if the 'child' was only just underage, but I am confused as to why this is being brought up 12 years later when he was convicted in 1995 and subsequently served his time. Am I missing something?
Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: Ironside on September 20, 2007, 06:59:50 PM what i cant understand is how on earth they can deport a person that has lived most of there life in the country
ok if he moved to the usa as a teenager but he moved to the usa aged 9 i think deporting him would break his human rights i have no idea what crime he commited apart from it had sexaully and child implications if it was a serious crime lock him up and throw away the key but you cant deport a person to a country they have not lived in since they were a child and more than likely have no memory of Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: Sheriff Fatman on September 20, 2007, 07:06:08 PM Looks like he's been flagged up in a crackdown operation and targetted for deportation.
He was re-arrested on 30th August this year, hence the breaking news. The bit at the bottom is interesting, as it seems he needs 2 separate convictions for deportation. Someone's just linked me to the other one - a driving incident which killed an old woman. http://www.lasvegassun.com/sunbin/stories/special/1999/jul/09/509028985.html The original link is a news article from today which the LV lot are only just starting to pick up on, hence its relevant. I just thought it was worth sharing because he's well known in the poker world. Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: kvnstv on September 21, 2007, 12:53:58 PM I guess he ticks a lot of political boxes,
Child sex charge [X] From scary country America does not like[X] Alternative life style [X] Bit of a w****er [X] I suppose the worse thing I can say about Sheiky is that in the two most memorable incidences shown on TV, the ME 2005 confrontation with Matusow and the HSP show where he broke Matusows sun glasses, on both occasions he managed to make Mike look the better person. Quite some feat! Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: Woodsey on September 21, 2007, 03:38:34 PM I think the US forum rumour mill is suggesting that he got done for pulling a marginally underage girl in a nightclub a few years back i.e. 17 years old or so. Dunno if thats true, but it doesn't sound as bad as first impressions would suggest.

Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: Sark79 on September 21, 2007, 04:56:22 PM I have no views on this, but he did seem like an unsporting prat when I saw him complaining that Mike Matasow said a swear word at the WSOP.

Dunno if thats true, but it doesn't sound as bad as first impressions would suggest. If that's the case, then it's nothing like what Mr Preston was accused of. How old was he at the time? Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: bolt pp on September 21, 2007, 05:33:09 PM of course it's nothing like it, the titles dangerous
Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: kinboshi on September 21, 2007, 05:35:49 PM of course it's nothing like it, the titles dangerous There is a question mark. Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: bolt pp on September 21, 2007, 05:43:56 PM so what? it's what it implies, and then everyone talks about his "image" thats why i'm wondering who he's sponserd by because if knowone then why the fuck does give a shit about his image, hes a proffessional gambler for ffs, now although hes got a public image as most proffessional poker players do now days he doesnt rely on it, need it or use it to make his living like an entertainer, what some people need to remember is that the T.V came to the poker players not the other way around thus unsponserd proffessionals shouldnt have to give a shit what the public think of them
Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: byronkincaid on September 21, 2007, 06:05:42 PM i read about one live donkament a while back where everyone refused to play until Mr Slim left the building, but I understand he was getting rounds of applause at this year's WSOP.
i also read an exert in some mag from this new book by the swimming with devilfish author where the blurb is talking about him asking tough questions about his conviction, but unless they missed a chunk from the exert he doesn't actually get an answer! Yes, I read the article, and then re-read it looking for those 'tough questions'. I didn't see the answers or the questions...guess they might be in the book, although like you said - the intro to the article mentioned those 'tough questions'. Title: Re: Shawn Sheikhan - Another Amarillo Slim? Post by: kinboshi on September 21, 2007, 06:50:26 PM so what? it's what it implies... What does it imply? Do we know the facts of the case? Does the OP? Therefore, is this a case similar to Amarillo Slim, or is it something different? Hence the question mark... :dontask: |
