Title: Wireless router help Post by: nirvana on September 23, 2007, 12:01:58 PM Would apprecaite some help. Have happily run with BT broadband for a while with a linksys wireless router. Was doing some updates the other day and now my broadband modem (Voyager210) doesnt seem to want to talk through the linksys router.
ie Internet is fine if I'm connected directly to the modem but if i add the router into the loop I can't get connected. This is not a wireless issue since I cant get to the internet via the router even if I wire directly from my pc to the router Can get to the admin console of the router - does anyone know the right settings for a linksys router , ie IP address, whether i should set it to DHCP or PPOe - if i set it to PPOe is there a standard user name and password I should enter for BT broadband - long shot but thought it might be possible there are others with the same set up. ANyway, thanks in advance if anyone can help Title: Re: Wireless router help Post by: Stone on September 23, 2007, 01:14:16 PM Firstly what model of Linksys router have you got?
I have setup a number of these and from memory the best way is to connect the ethernet cable from the modem into the router and set it up for DHCP. Be sure to secure it with at least a 128bit WEP key. This way the by modem is acting as a gateway and the internet should flow across your wireless network. A quick call to BT and they will tell you the settings. Have you not got the settings in an email when you first joined? Model number would be useful. If not, do away with your router (very temporarily) and plug a PC into the modem with a network cable and see if you can connect. This will tell us if your modem has a connection. If it does then all your BT settings, which are just a username and password to conenct, are in properly. If your linksys is a router only and not a modem then you don't enter any BT settings into it. What updates did you do? |
