There's a serene atmosphere here at the Grosvenor Victoria today with the majority of players opting to remain in bed until the very last minute instead of joining us press peeps as part of the turn-up-an-hour-early club. I suppose with everyone staying in hotels just across the road, they can trundle in whenever they please without really worrying about traffic or any other such hold-ups.

However, as with all other days this week, it'll suddenly become hustle and bustle with the bar adjacent to the cardroom transforming into a hotbed of eager beaver poker enthusiasts at around 12.45pm. And they'll have good reason to be excited too as not only are they playing for the prestigious honour of following in the footsteps of Vicky (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=449) Coren (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=449) as the London EPT Champion, but there's also the small case of £611,000. Think about all the blonde merchandise you can purchase with that!

My apologies for not answering this inquiry yesterday, but with regards to the rumour that someone was marking the cards, that is indeed true. According to my source, there were in fact two tables where the deck was changed for being marked, one of which I believe was being surveyed on the cameras. Apparently, the cards possessed small fingernail-like indentations on the sruface and, on one table anyhow, had to be changed at least three times. I don't think they found out who the culprit was, so, as with most situations like this, the villain will probably get away scott free.

Word on the mediavine is that play has been delayed due to a chip discrepancy. The players can't believe Marc Goodwin still has chips.

Okay, I made that last bit up.

Its a bit crazy down their already, there is actually a barrier/rail for just the Journalists to stand behind, but this will prove impossible to police as the public want to catch a glimpse of the action.  Anyway I like breaking rules, I shall keep trying to get as close as possilble before I grabbed by the scruff of my neck.

They kicked off about 15 mins ago and there was the inevitable swarm of "scribble boks" (the wonderful word I have heard branded about for bloggers) hovering around Eric Friberg.  With the blinds starting at 1,500 / 3,000 and a 300 ante, Friberg with 7,000 wasn't gonna wait for long, especially investing 1,500 first hand in the small blind.

The first hand started with Surinder raising up to 8,000, Friberg choosing THIS was his moment and moving his remaining 5,500.  Florian Langmann in the big blind makes the call for 8,000.  The flop came

Understandably all-in with Ahrt Ks, an Adidas-clad cap-wearing Tollund stumbled headfirst into the Pocket Rockets of Irishman Alan Smurfit, the bracelet winner's attire and mannerisms directly contrasting to that of his younger Scandinavian foe.

And after the dealer whisked out a Jh Js 6d Kd Th board, only the Cowboy on the Turn beaming out any ray of hope, it was a victory ofor the old school with Smurfit looking to match his successes of last Summer in Vegas.

I was speaking with Lam Trinh before we began today, and he informed me the he is a member of blondepoker as lambor LOL (who has hacked his account? hehe).  I also found out that he only plays poker in his spare time for fun and he qualified for this event through a Vic Satalite the day before the event.   He also has not played for about 3 months so a great comeback whatever happens.

If he can pool together all that experience and, as he put it, "avoid the blowup", then there's no reason why he shouldn't be one of the favourites.

At the moment, he is on 280k, so certainly heading in the right direction, although he did seem a little disappointed that his Kings weren't paid off when the Big Blind found Jacks. "He just flat-called, so it could have been a lot more. And the flop came Ace high too, so it slowed down the action. I bet on the River thinking he had a hand like Jacks, but he made a good read and passed."

Also, do you have full stops or commas on your keyboard?

If you're wondering why Stuart Nash is only on 65k, then it's because of this hand: Flat-calling on the button with A-T, Stuart Nash and the Big Blind saw an Ace high Flop with two spades. Both players opted for a sneaky check, only for the Turn to come another Ace, but a third spade. The Big Blind bet out 5k, Stuart made it 15k and the Big Blind called. A seemingly harmless hit the River, triggering a bet of 30k from Mr Big Blind. Slightly reluctant but holding a strong hand nonetheless, Stuart called, only to be met by A-9.

We lost Marc Goodwin in 29th the hand was JJ's V KK's all in preflop, the kings stood up.

Roland Dewolfe found himself short on the feature table and reraised Daniel Mangas all in with  Ad Jd.  Daniel made the call though with  Kc Kh and after the flop of

Not too much action downstairs, although I did watch Josh Eagen push all-in in consecutive hands, once on the button, then again on the cut-off for around 40-50k. You'd imagine he'd have a hand with Surinder Sunar (450k) the recipient of both shoves, but then again, he did check his hands before he mucked, perhaps suggesting he'd moved in blind.

Katja Svendson was getting busy on the feature talbe, making a great squeeze play with  4c 5c no less but got caught by  7h 8h incredibly.  She took a hit and after a couple of all ins we see this 3 way pot.

Javed Abraham's never really getting hold of any big stack during this tournament, said he "tired to make a bluff against Surinder, who hit a flush anyway."  The next hand, left with about 55,000 called an all in from Josh Egan.  Josh was also on a similar stack and was moving all regularly, so Javed took his chances with  Ad 3h.  He was correct to do so also when Egan turned over   Kd 6c.

The poker gods do not always reward correct decisions though and a King on the turn, gutted the youngster and left him with a paultry 4,800 with blinds at 2,500/5,000.  He moved all in next hand and doubled to 12,000, the very next hand he pushed again after a raise from Egan.  This time Egan had AA and Javed was in trouble with A6, no help and his EPT comes to end but another EPT cash it very handsome for this rising lad.

Another exit, this tiime its Christopher Andler in 24th place.

A big melting pot of media, casino staff and players from the neighbouring table swarming around the right hand table signified a hand, so, with notepad in hand end in anticipation of something more than just a 'steal of the blinds', I leap over like a panther and brace myself for some good old fashioned pushing and shoving. After I'd utilised my muscular guns to good affect, I managed to squeeze into a slight crevice to see a tonne of chips in the middle with the following hands being revealed:

Worst way to go out of a tournament yet!

He made it 17k to play. I made it 58k to play so 41k more with AQ after he raised the button. He thought for five minutes then said call and threw 14k in. He thought it was 14k more not 41k to which he would have folded. The floor was called and it was deemed a call. He made it obvious he didn't want to put 41k more in. I know knew he was weak so was pushing on any flop.

Of course he had 88 and flopped top set.... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Very true, hes results in the  regular Vic and Sportsman's tourneys are incredible.

The funny thing about ken is, that whenever he plays poker, he tells hes missus he is going to play snooker. He must be the most dedicated snooker player in London. If he makes it through to the final, she will be thinking, this is one hell of a long frame. I'm sure she will forgive him when he scoops the lot.

It's a doubleupfest here in London, the latest double-upper to join the seemingly non-elitist club being the intriguingly hatted Paul Mendes. I joined the action late, but assume Surinder Sunar was the recipient as he was lingering over his seat in that adrenalin-pumping way players do when they have reach a showdown.

With Kings v Jacks, a face-off was inevitable, but Mendes will have been relieved to be holding the former, especially after the dealer popped out a Kd 5d 3c 9s 4d. Cool as a cucumber buried in snow, Mendes simply nodded as he accepted his gold.

But what about that hat? Thumbs up or thumbs down?

There's been a lot of Cox of late, and we have yet more Cox for you now as the hot-running Brit eliminates local hero Ken Wong. Raising to 20k from the button, Wong made his move from the big blind with 8h 7d, Cox perhaps sensing weakness and happy to make the call. As Cox revealed Ad Jd, Wong tapped the table, his sagging expression perhaps reflective of his current mood and the heightened confidence-lacking aura of 'this-is-my-last-hand' -syndrome.

And his last hand it was, the board coming 4c 9h Kc 4h Qh and leaving a dejected Wong with nothing but the green of the baize. "Yes!" exclaims Cox in that elated, but simultaneously hesitant and respectful manner that is so familiar with victors at this stage. Wong, meanwhile, simply said "Nice hand" respectfully and quietly sneaked away from the table.

There seems to be a trend in EPT Main Events when we get down to three tables, the tension suddenly increasing to knife-cutting levels and the play slowing to a frustratingly sluggish pace. Every hand is given the utmost attention, and not a round goes by without everyone having a go at the tired 'let's pause to save face' routine.

Amid this lack of chitty chatter, fellow blogger Stephen Bartley of PokerStars makes a bizarre observation, suggesting that dealers in England always seem to be really big boned or thin as a rake with nothing in between. I can't say I've ever noticed that, but food for thought... I guess.

As soon as I'd complained (although disguised) about the lack of action, the feature table encountered it's first double up in a while, Florian Langmann finding his chips dancing into the middle with Jh Th against an ahead, but not dominating Ahrt Kd of Anthony Lellouche.

The 2h 4h 3c Flop garnered a receptive nod from Langmann, but no visible excitement just yet. The 5s turn then took away two of his outs, leaving him with just the flush draw, which did indeed arrive on the 9h River to save his relieved bacon.

Crikey, he'd be squeezing that like there's no tomorrow if he'd made it to the televised final. Pop!  :o

We always seem to miss the big news when we're in the loo, having a quick drink or whatnot, but according to Nicky, my generous secondary source, the biggest pot of the night has just gone sailing over to Marcel Baran, the Pokerstars qualifier taking on the aforementioned chip leader in a huge flush draw versus top set encounter that created a minimum half a million pot. This time around, Marcel reigned victorious, his K-6 on a Jack high board hitting a third club on the Turn to propel him into the chip lead.

Georgiou just took a few chips off Surinder.  Surrinder raised to 25k in the cut off, called by Georgiou. On a 4 J 4 flop, Georgiou checks and Surinder bets 60k, called by Georgiou.

The turn is an A and they both check and await the 9 river, Georgiou bet 50k on the river and Surinder Insta passes.  He should be on about 200k.


Tony Cascarino is the short stack and has gone all in about 4 times recently.  With the blinds at 4k / 8k and 1k ante his 33k wasnt going to last very long but he doubled once and the other times took the blinds and antes.  He just keeps laughing and saying "How the hell am I still in this tournament?"

Josh Egan was on about 90k but got doubled up by Ian Cox.

I was hesitant to post this hand as it makes little difference to the current chip positions, but for those who are interested, it was a choppety chop chop chop chop as Messieurs Perrault (A-5) and Mendes (A-Q) push in what was one of the few shirt versus hat clashes, the board coming 5-K-J-T-Q for a cheeky split pot.

Blinds 5k / 10k  Tony Cascarino raises to 40k preflop, it goes round to the rather pensive Georgiou in the small blind who makes the call.  Incidently in the hands that I have watched this cypriot, every decision is a big one and every decision takes time to make.  Anyhow we all witness a flop like

Georgiou bets to put Cascarino all in and if he wanted him to pass, no chance.  Cascarino calls all in wth   Qh Qs.

The Cypriot shows  Ad Jh.  Straight away, heartache for the ex footballer as the  Ac hits the turn and even a  Jc on the river makes no difference and after about the 8th all in of the day for Cascarino he is OUT in 14th place.

All-in with Qd Th, Surinder was quickly called by Joseph Mouaward who showed a relieved Midlander a pair of Pocket Sevens, 7s 7d. The Jc Ahrt Js board gave Surinder a bunch of extra outs whilst the 9d Turn produced about a billion more, but it was all to no avail as the River came a very raggy 5c.

With the Flop coming 8d 9c Js, Joseph followed Ian's check with a continuation bet of 40k, only for Ian to announce all-in quicker than a monkey on a motorbike who's late for his PG Tips audition.

This soul-destroying hand-for-hand period has induced multiple unnecessarily dramatic pauses, and I think this was probably one of them, Joseph never really looking like he was genuinely considering a call.

What was interesting, however, was that Ian showed a 9d 2d, which I assume was ahead...

Today I am mostly wearing boring trainers, and as for THAT question - go for it, after a few days here at the Vic I have lost any shy or bashfullnes I might have had LOL

Langmann started to take over the 6 man table and on his third raise in a row, Georgiou could take no more and decided to dance with him.  He called the 35k raise and the flop arrived as this

 Qs 9s Th   Georgiou bet 50k and Langmann goes over the top for about 200k to put him all in.  Georgiou for the first time all night made an instant decision and called the bet.  On their backs,

Two 6's followed and Georgiou after a great an valiant run in his first EPT and first major tournament finishes in 11th place.
