Title: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on October 06, 2007, 06:38:16 PM Right. I'm getting a Eurovox whatsit so I don't miss any more sport that's only on Setanta. The fight Barrera v Pacquiao tonight/tomorrow is on Setanta, and that's the final straw.
Anyway, I was thinking of this box: This one here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120169256467&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BID_IT&refitem=120168471495&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget) Is that the right one to get? Any opinions from those who have one or know someone who does? Some helpful souls on here have advised me previously (mostly RichEO :)up), but just wanted to check before I order. Anyone? Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: Graham C on October 06, 2007, 06:45:02 PM what does that do? Is it free Setanta stuff with one of those?
Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on October 06, 2007, 06:54:40 PM If you have cable coming into your house, you get one of these babies and yes, you can get Setanta. Not sure it's legal though...as in, it's not.
Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 07, 2007, 10:52:31 PM You can get a eurovox 2007 for cheaper than the eurovox max V. They are identical in use and functionallity but the max V is the newer black one that look nice (but usally costs £30 more).
I have a eurovox max V and just got a dbox. The dbox can be networked to a PC and you can record to PC, steam TV over network. Change channels or record via network / internet. Stream mp3s divx etc from PC to TV. You can also get a dreambox, if you happen to want a box with a built in hard drive so you can record to it, (like sky+ or V+) then that's probably the one to get. Go to a forum like tech watch or digital worldz if you want better answers ;) Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on October 08, 2007, 09:28:14 AM I don't think I'll get a better answer than that one. :)up
Thanks muchly again. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: ericstoner on October 09, 2007, 03:43:23 PM Jeez I know i'm old but ,xbox, eurovox, dreambox, lunchbox , luckbox.........................................it's all double dutch to me.
An explaination of what these things do would be apreichiated. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on October 09, 2007, 04:35:55 PM If you have cable coming into your house (for TV or broadband) you can get one of these Eurovox things.
Although not legal in the UK (I'm sure they aren't), you can then access loads of cable channels without subscription, including the Setanta channels. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 09, 2007, 08:47:08 PM The boxes are perfectly legal.
It's the modified firmware that's loaded on to them and the subsequent use of the box that isn't legal. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? I have cable broadband - will it work? Is it possible to split the cable coming in in two so one lot can continue on my broadband and the other go in the back of this box? This would be so so sweet Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 09, 2007, 10:54:59 PM Yeah, you can get the digibox for free cable TV, all you need is a splitter as you say. You usually have 2 feeds into you house for cable anyway though.
You can also get free broadband, and 20MBit at that ;whistle; Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: Graham C on October 09, 2007, 11:43:04 PM free broadband? I currently pay for my cable broadband - how do I do that?

It's not too complicated but a learning curve (understanding curve) is involved with the broadband. For TV, just get a eurovox off ebay.
If you aren't in a cable area it's of no use to you. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: CelticGeezeer on October 10, 2007, 12:44:23 AM PM would be appreciated

Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: Graham C on October 10, 2007, 08:26:05 AM I'm in a cable area but I don't have the cable service switched on - i.e. I cancelled my tv and went with Sky. I still have the fittings there though, will the Eurovox still work or do I need Virgin to switch something on?
Still very interested in the broadband options though Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on October 10, 2007, 09:02:18 AM I'll collate them all. For the broadband you need to know someone wearing a mac, who lives close, but not in the same street. Then you have to borrow his mac, even if it isn't raining.
I think that was the gist of it. :dontask: Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: Graham C on October 10, 2007, 09:41:57 AM I panicked when I saw mac at first, but then I realised you only meant dodgy characters wearing the coat so all is well.

Still very interested in the broadband options though Are you sure it isn't switched on??? You mean you aren't signed up, not it isn't switched on. If you plug your cable feed (you need a F connector to coax adapter) into your TV tuner and see if you can tune into BBC etc, you probably can. Which means your feed is active - and that's all you need. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Is that my......lol what's my tv tuner :D In my living room I have a cable coming in from the Sky dish to the Sky box, to my tele. I also have the redundant Cable box but it's jjust the box. Do I plug one of these F connector things to the cable box and the other end into the Eurovox box which goes to the tele? I am technically challenged with things like this. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 10, 2007, 05:54:17 PM Do you have a normal arial on your roof, or one of those portable ones that is a loop on the top of your TV, that ends in a coax connector. That usually plugs into your TV tuner (your TV's tuner) to give you normal terrestrial channels. These channels are sent down the cable too, so you don't need an arial. If you have an adapter (or you could chop the end off and install a normal coax end - but I don't recommend this) then you can plug it into your TV, tune it in, and see if you get channels.
You just said you still have a cable box. If you plug this in, you should be able to get the free channels through it if the line is still connected (but I'm not certain on this). Here is an example of the adapter I am on about: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/F-TYPE-FEMALE-COAX-PLUG-CONNECTOR-ADAPTOR-FREE-P-P_W0QQitemZ190158205709QQihZ009QQcategoryZ101365QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem But I'd prob buy from here: http://www.screwfix.com/app/sfd/cat/pro.jsp?id=39772&ts=35208 as you can get 10 for £2.83 (if there is a local screw fix). Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 10, 2007, 05:56:46 PM It's 95% likely your cable is still connected. They rarely cut your feed, too much hassle.

If you plug this in, you should be able to get the free channels through it if the line is still connected (but I'm not certain on this). I would not recommend pluging a lead from the cable box to your tv. Your tv would be an analogue tuner, cable is a digital signal (decoded in a totally different way from normal tv signal). The only way to find out is buy one of these euro boxes. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: jizzemm on October 10, 2007, 06:12:14 PM This all looks very interesting... PM please Kin..

The cable is manually switched on by an engineer in the exchange on or near your street, i'm 95% certain they do switch them off because when i first got my dodgy cable box i had to get a mate to turn it on (it had been used by the previous owner). Just curious Rich but what's the difference between the eurovox and a modded cable box? Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: RichEO on October 11, 2007, 03:13:40 AM Eurovox is a type of modded box. There are 5ish popular ones. Eurovox is probably the most common.
They rarley turn the feeds off. Sometimes they do. A trick that a lot of people do if they don't have an active feed it sign up then cancel within 30 days and they usually don't turn the feed off again. Or some people sign up the the basic package, which guarantees a feed. Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? I had a mate who worked for telewest switch mine on therefore i have no account with them :) Got a box for £20 and cut the feedback, takes 5 minutes. i knew someone that sold the goldcards for £10 but he soon stopped updating them so i got a programmer and did my own till i discovered the purple cards which auto update when telewest zap em. 5 years of totally free cable :) Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on March 11, 2008, 06:23:37 PM Right. Got my Eurovox today. Got it from ebay for £99 delivered.
It had the firmware preinstalled. But when I plugged it in, it didn't work. So I phoned Rich - and he helped me get it sorted. I had to change some rate or something to one that would suit the ntl network that I'm on (before it became Virgi (http://travis.bosscasinos.com/re.asp?name=POK&camp=REF5111_0&go=http%3a%2f%2fwww.virginpoker.com)n (http://travis.bosscasinos.com/re.asp?name=POK&camp=REF5111_0&go=http%3a%2f%2fwww.virginpoker.com)). Once that was done - sorted! More info here: http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/9329-eurovox-tutorials.html#post28455 if anyone buys one. To check it was working, I selected a channel at random, and found LFCTV - and watched the end of the first 4-3 against Newcastle! ;D Anyway, I owe Rich a beer and I'm a happy bunny. :)up Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Title: Re: Eurovox - which one to buy? Post by: kinboshi on April 11, 2008, 10:44:37 AM Looks like Virgin Media are upping their efforts to prevent people accessing TV via Eurovoxs or other similar boxes.
They are changing codes on a daily basis (if not more frequently), and it requires the user to enter some keys to access the scrambled channels. If you have one, you can find the instructions about what to do here (http://www.techwatch.co.uk/forums/28960-how-to-fix-please-wait-code-being-updated-08-04-2008-a-2.html#post139606). It looks as though there's a new set of codes required for ntl from this morning again, so it loks as though I'll be entering the new codes when I get home. Only takes a few minutes, so no biggy.
