Title: APAT Regional Event 06/10 - London
Post by: MAF on October 06, 2007, 10:06:10 PM
Hi all,

Just returned from the London APAT event.  Unfortuntely, there was a poor turnout with only 48 entrants.

However, a number of Blondes reached the final table, including myself, along with Mel Lofthouse, Linda Iwaniak & her husband (seated next to each other on the FT), and a couple of others who I don't know the names of.  No doubt they will make themselves known (including the guy who called me a push-monkey  ;nemesis;).

I managed to finish in 9th, which despite never getting a decent stack was probably quite a surprise.  Although only top 5 got paid, I did manage 1 ranking point.  ;woohoo;

For anyone who's mildly interested, here's a quick trip report for myself:

I started off badly when I lost about a third of my stack when I held  5s 6s and made a straight on a board of something like  5h 8d 9d  7d.  When a  Jc came on the river and my opponent bet big, I had to fold.  There was just too much out there beating me.

I managed to double up a little later when my QQ held up against JJ, but after the break, I had a torrid time.  We had a fairly aggressive guy move to our table and he raised almost every hand he was first to act in.  This was coupled with a poor player sat in between us who had a habit of calling most raises and chasing down bottom or middle pair....and winning.  With these 2 constantly in pots together, it was difficult to make any moves against them.

Luckily, our table split and I doubled again when my AQ managed to outdraw TT on the river.  A few more uncalled pushes kept my head above water, but most of the time I was battling against the rising blinds.

The table split again, and I was sat to the left of Linda.  With about 10 or 11 left I was desperately short and not picking up anything to fight with.  Then with me in the Big Blind, it was all folded to Linda who pushed.  I looked down to find KK (there really is a God!!) and was able to double up against her A5 to squeeze onto the final table as the short stack.

My demise came not long after.  It was folded to me in MP and I look down and see  Kc Tc.  Good enough!  I push and get called by  9h 9d.  I'm happy to settle for a flip, but I don't hit, and I'm out in 9th.

I didn't stick around to see the end, and it'll be interesting to see who wins.  It was a strong FT and would have made good viewing.

Mark.

thanks

I thought 48 was a good turnout for a first regional myself, time will tell
