Title: Pokerstars.com Baden EPT: Day 2 - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on October 08, 2007, 01:10:17 PM
:hello:

Play has not yet started and there appears to be little activity upstairs. 156 players remain, below in seating order with chip counts. Intriguing that there is no table 13, I guess the Austrians are a superstitious lot...

If you wish us to follow anyone then please tell us and we'll do our best to track them.

No no, play has now indeed started, and it has been totally action-filled so far. Only slightly suffering from a couple of brandies last night with Mr Matt "My Head Is Not Spherical" Tyler, and my breakfast curry this morning, I wandered upstairs, just in time to witness the below gent, whom I believe to be Johann Fest, double up with a set of Kings. "Jambalaya!!" he cried as he scooped up his new, larger stack. The photo really doesn't do justice to his amusing celebrations.

For your viewing pleasure, & proof that she's utterly loopy (note the Banjo) here is your female Updater, one Dana.

Barny Boatman is OUT. "I had trip nines with one card to come against Queens."

Also gone is Noah Boeken.

Carlo Di Renzo has crippled Josh Gould, Ahrt Ts vs Jd Th on a Tc Td 8d 5c Qc board.

Thewy has knocked out Sorin Posa, but raising with A-2 and calling the 4k more re-raise all-in only to find himself ahead of Q-J and spiking the Ace for good measure, he's wary of Luis David Sevilla Petit, who is apparently getting very busy on the table.

Meanwhile Richard Ashby was doubling up off of Sander Lyloff, all in preflop with his  Aspades Kd against Sander's 8h Th. "It's too early in the morning for this," sighed Ashby. "It's an exciting start to the day," replied Lyloff. And indeed it was...

Flop - 5h Jh 2s gave Lyloff the flush draw

Turn - 9d also giving Lyloff the straight draw. "Wow," deadpanned the now drawtastic Austrian.

River - 3d

And with a sigh of relief, Richard Ashby escaped all the draws to double up to just over 30k.

Also enjoying an early double up is young American Chris Bush - his Qs Kc was good against his opponent's Aspades 7c on a board that read Jd Td 2h Qd 8d.

The stern expression on my face is actually one of mild constipation.

And here is a photo of Table Roundhead, shortly prior to Mr Boatman's unfortunate exit. Note also Mark Vos, Andreas Hoivold and Mr Tyler himself.

Another early double-up was this gent, whom I believe is Michael Csango. His  Ahrt Qd was good against Jc Tc on a 6s 9h Ad 6c Kh board. He was not actually asleep at the time.

I understand that Julian Thew knocked out a short stack, but the only information I have is this photo. Also I understand that Patrik Antonius a few tables away suffered quite a big hit, but again all the informaiton I have currently is this photo, which I think makes him look like some kind of UN peace ambassador.

Peter Gould who was 12th here last year, just knocked out Adrian Koy with Sevens vs Ace King on an 8-2-3-2-8 board. Meanwhile it looks as though his son, Josh, is out after that early trips vs trips encounter.

Andreas 'Woodstock' Hoivold, who suffered a slow first day where he lost a lot of chips has steadily been regaining ground. He just bet 10k out on the river of a Jc Qc 7d Qh 9d board to take a 25k pot.

Bill Edler and Phillip 'Clap Your Hands Say' Yeh. (I can't believe that nickname hasn't caught on yet...)

Hevad 'Rain' Khan (WSOP finalist and '22 stt's at once' player) and Ram Vaswani. I'm awaiting a 'Battering Ram' or 'Wrath of Khan' moment here.

Janne Juutilainen just came over the top of Dan Pedersen's 6k bet on a 6s Js 3d board for around roughly the same amount. Pedersen dwelled for ages, but was forced to call with his 9's, miles behind the American Airlines of Janne which stayed good and gave him a 30k pot. Here's a picture of the pot-winner, looking as though he's aiming to be the first man with no neck or chin to win an EPT.

Yes, it does seem a bit like an expression of, again, mild constipation. He's now the clear chip leader on table 10, munching continuously on the more-or-less-microstack canaries that surround him. Some of those chips came from a young and unidentified now-a-microstack-owing-to-this-hand gent, who dared to bet 10.6k into a 15k+ pot on a 4s 9s Qd 5s board, only to fold when Julian impassively moved all in. He kept that same expression on his face the whole time. Mmm. Canary. Hope he's brought Rennies.

Chris Bush is short again, on about 6.5k. Also looking a bit vertically challenged is the stack of Matt Tyler - he told me to say he was on 70k, but he's actually on around 7k. Not quite desperate yet, but perhaps a little worried. He filled me in on Barny Boatman's exit though. Apparently Barny called a raise with 7-9 on the button, and the flop came Q-9-x. the turn came another 9, and there was a bet. Barny pushed with his trips and his opponent called with K-Q. River another Queen. Ouch.

Dave Colclough is on about 22k. Here he is again.

Players are now on a 10 minute break. When they go back the blinds will be 400/800/100 ante. 102 players now remain, average chips 27,647.

As they went to break, a very brief burst of "The Entertainer" exploded over the PA, in a totally slapstick fashion. Bizarre.

Just before the break, I saw Daniel Mangas move in for 10,775 on top of Philip Yeh's button raise to 1700. Yeh eventually folded. He looked a bit sheepish. Mangas looked incredibly relieved.

The craziest story of today is the complete implosion of Sander Lyloff, we're in the end of level 8 (300/600/75) and he has gone from 66k and chip leader to OUT.

After doubling up Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) Ashby (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) twice, giving some chips to Raul Mestre Lleida, he then sent another 8k to Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344)
whose Jc 8c was good on a 2-J-Q-9-7 board vs the Austrian's A-T.

His last 275 went in with T-8 vs 7-4 and there was only ever going to be one winner there.

And from the biggest faller, we go to probably one of the biggest climbers. Surinder (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=422) Sunar (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=422) started today with around 8.5k, not the shortest but certainly not healthy, now he's on around 40k, roughly the same as John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=217) Shipley (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=217).

The new chip leader was thought to be Acar Mazlum, who had built up his stack to 75k, mostly at the cost of the Finns on his table, Antonius and Wahlroos. However he just gave Antonius back some chips, putting the pin-up boy all-in with Ks x against Antonius' Jc 8d on a Js 8s 2s board, spiking the flush on the turn with the 3s, only to have Antonius hit the Jd river to fill up.

Mazlum then doubled up Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=863) Testud (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=863), Kings vs Ace Queen, and the Frenchman hit both his hole cards.

Also last year's third place finisher Dario (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=517) Minieri (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=517) made his exit shortly before the break, pocket Fours against pocket Queens. A handshake and no hard feelings. What a gent. I like his scarf too. Doesn't he look small next to the scary lady looking down her perfectly powdered nose at him?

How many times on these updates over the last few months has Surinder been climber of the day? If he ever gets off to a flyer in a comp he'll be unstoppable.

The roundheaded Tyler is on 13k, though not playing in a cavalier style... ;hide;

Thewy Towers looks to be roughly 40k.

Patrik Antonius is OUT.

He held K-J on a Kh 7s 9s Tc 6s board versus Aspades 2s of Acar   Mazlum, both checked the flop, Patrik min-raised a 6k bet to 12k on the turn before calling all-in on the river.

Here's Surinder, he's just heard the news that the casino are performing random cavity searches and he's next on the list...

It's hard to say whether Tyler's found any cards. With the big blind approaching, he told me that he has not yet found his Aces. "You'll have to look harder," said I. "2-7's starting to look like Aces," said he.

Saved from the big blind by moving to another table, he's been fully abusing his position as Table Newbie though. His first hand on the new table, he raised from one off utg, and after quite a lengthy dwell from the big blind, took all those tasty antes. Then finding himself on the big blind, with a call only form the small blind, he saw a flop of Jd 2s Tc. The small blind bet 1200, but Matt took that too with a raise to 3600. Seems pretty cavalier to me.

Sebastian Riviere has doubled up. The button raised and he moved all in for about 16k with Kh Th; the button called with a not-so-promising  Ahrt Jh. But the board came down Td Ts 9d 7s Ac, and he's back in the running.

Ram Vaswani raises to 2500 from the button, and is called by a gent in the big blind.

Flop - Kd 4c Ks

The big blind checks and Ram bets a fairly un-chunky 1500. The big blind calls.

Turn - Js - they both check

River - 2d - the big blind bets 5500 and Ram is forced to fold. Hmm. Ram's on about 30k.

Our friend the Chinless Wonder (actually calling him that is much easier than actually spelling his name) calls, only for Roman Yitzhaki to raise to 4200, only for big blind Age Spets to move all in. Mr Scarf (actually that's quicker than typing Chinless Wonder) folds, and eventually so does Roman. Ah well. Rome wasn't built in a day.

That was Floppy's joke and if you have any problem with it, you must take it up with him. Sorry.

Thomas Wahlroos has somehow found himself with 5k. "I'm trying to squeeze into the money," says the Eggman. "That's a long way to squeeze," says tablemate and fellow (but not quite as) short stack Matt Tyler. The big stack at their table is I believe one Acar Mazlum who, according to Tyler, is a Lucky Swiss Fish (his words, not mine).

Anyways, Wahlroos has been doing a really astoundingly good job of staying in with his microstack - the blinds, incidentally, are 500/1000 with a 100 ante. Wahlroos resisted a steal-his-big-blind bet from the small blind. He made it back and more though, moving in for 3300 on an Ac 2d Kc flop, seat 9 folding pocket Fives face up. "What a scoop!" shout Matt Tyler. "You're back in again!"

But there are serious signs that Wahlroos is no longer taking it seriously. He folds by gently blowing his cards across the felt to the dealer. Sometimes he shows his hand to his neighbours before folding, giggling. At onepoint Matt Tyler moves in preflop for his 10k plus change, and Wahlroos on the big blind laughs hysterically before turning over 3-4 offsuit.

Having said that, I stood by that table for AGES, and Wahlroos' stack somehow did not dwindle to actually nothing. He is, at the time of writing, still in. It's like some kind of minor miracle. Here he is. So good I took his picture twice.

Our friend Mr Gambler Jacket from yesterday, apparently a Poker Stars player (munching on his own finger in the foreground below; anyone know who he is?) makes it 3.5k, and Julian calls from the small blind.

Flop - 6s Kc Td - Julian checks, and Gamblor bets 4k. Julian calls.

Turn - 7d - and they both check.

River - 3s and Julian bets 5.5k. Gamblor dwells, and eventually calls, but mucks when Julian shows Kh Jh.

Thewy is now on about 60k. The canary-munching expression remains.

Wahlroos is now out, he found Kings, but this guy (below) was holding Ac Aspades. Morten Erlandsen came along for the ride after his Ahrt 5c hit the Th 2h 4h flop pretty hard, but the Aces scooped and 'Pokergirl1' is out too.

Age Spets, who had a big stack early yesterday but dwindled to a very small one, has now shot back up to almost 85k. He re-raised a MP raiser to around 15k with Aspades Ks only to see he was being pushed back at, for the sum of 26k more.

"I don't like it, but I have to call...Even if you have Kings I think this call is correct."

His opponent flipped Qh Qc

Board:

Kh 4h 7s 2s 7c

A sigh of relief from the Labrokes player.

Players are about to go on an hour's dinner break. Alas, I understand the Food Court is for people who have money, but several giant sandwich platters have appeared in the press room for us paupers. Joy! In the meantime, here is an amusing juxtaposition of chipstacking styles. Note how well the players' respectively precise and rock 'n' roll attitudes to their chips are echoed in their attire. Last time we saw Ozzy he was really short, so we're assuming that he's gone. Oops for the mis-nationalising of Canadian Chris Bush; haven't seen him for a while either and last time we did, he only had about 6k, so for the moment let's assume he's gone too. John Shipley is OUT in some unfortunate circumstances. It folded around to the aforementioned Paradise Poker player in the blue shirt who reminds me a little of Popeye's nemesis Bluto in the small blind. Bluto raises. Shipley in the big blind looks him up and down, doesn't think much of him, and reraises (artistic license to be ignored here, thanks). To which Bluto responds by re-reraising all in. There is now a period of deliberation and complex counting and stacking of chips from Shipley. And then he calls.

Bluto -  Ac Qc

Shipley -  Ad Jd

Board - 8c 7s 3s 2h Ahrt

A fist hits the table with some force, although actually I'm not sure whether it was Shipley's fist or Bluto's, and he's gone.

Unsure who this guy is, but he just got a double up in a little odd circumstances. Raul Mestre Lleida raised to 3,600 from UTG+1. Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) in the next position calls, and after a dwell Janne 'The Chinless Wonder' Juutilainen calls too. Passed to this guy in the small blind, who immediately declares all-in for about 18,000 or so. Lleida moves all-in quickly too, Gould and Juutilainen pass quickly.

Lleida flips his Eights, the small blind flips the less than stellar Qs 7s.

Board:

Qd Th 9c 4s 7d

As the board came out, Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) sighed, "I'd have flopped the nuts..."

Incidentally, Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) Ashby (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) has also doubled up through Lleida with Ac Qc against Aspades Tc. Ashby got up out of his seat, the custom of a player whose about to win the hand no matter how far ahead or behind he is.

The flop came:

Jd 8c 3c

Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) told him, "Sit back down."

Blanks on the turn and river ensured Ashby's presence in the tournament for a little while longer.

Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) Ashby (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367)'s double-up didn't last long. He makes it 3600 preflop, and the grey-hoodied gent below, whom I should probably know but don't, called him.

Flop - 3s 9s 4s

Ashby insta-all-ins himself for about 20k, and Mr Hoodie instacalls.

Ashby - Qs Kh

Mr Hoodie -  Aspades Jd

Turn - 6s and it's all over, notwithstanding the Qh on the river.

This leaves Ashby pretty much crippled - he's down to 10k or so. Furthermore, the totally unnecessary burst of The Entertainer now tells us that blinds are up to 800/1600 with a 200 ante, and it's now Ashby's big blind. "The blinds are up this hand?" he half protests. It folds around to Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) (also below), who bets enough to put him all in, but only small blind nanostack The Chinless Wonder calls for his remaining thousand or two; Ashby folds.

Chinless Scarf Man -  Aspades 7s

Peter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) Gould (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=344) -  Ad 9h

Board - Qs 8c 9c Ac Td

Chinless Man is OUT. Ashby remains, for the moment, in.

Meanwhile Roman Yitzhaki is doing pretty well. Daniel Mangas raised preflop, and Roman called, throwing his chips into the middle with rather more force than looks cool. He looked a bit surprised at the clatter they made. Is he mainly an online player?

Anyway, the flop comes down  Ahrt 8s 2d and Mangas bets. Roman calls.

Turn - Qs - they both check.

River - 8d - and now, perhaps sensing weakness, or perhaps having an Eight, or something, Roman bets 12k. Daniel folds fairly quickly.

Calvalcade of action now. Julian Thew down to 70k after coinflipping his Jacks versus a short-stack's Ace King for a 30k pot.

Matt Tyler has doubled through Age Spets.

Spets made it 4,100. Another player called, Matt moved in for 19,500. Spets called and the other player passed.

"You've probably got me," said Matt as he turned over Ad Js. Spets showed Ts Tc which no doubt relieved Matt a little.

Flop:

7h Jh 9s

"An eight..."

Turn:

Qd

"Or a king too..."

River:

3s

Matt up to about 48k, Age still has 85k.

Ram Vaswani is OUT.

Gone at the hands of Phillip Yeh in a classic T-2 vs J-3 battle, I'm guessing the preflop action was Ram button stealing with Th 2h and Phillip Yeh attempting to play back at him with from the small blind with Js 3d. The flop came:

Ahrt 3c Jh

and predictably all the chips went in but no heart turned up.

Saw also a bit of a run-in between Surinder Sunar and Dutchman Thierry Van Der Berg. Surinder had bet 12k into an  Aspades Ad 6h Ks Qs board (afraid I don't know which way out that got dealt though), and Van Der Berg was repeatedly saying, "Will you show if I fold?" to absolutely no response from Surinder. Eventually he folded, showing the Kc as he did so.

Here is Thierry receiving the attentions of a masseuse lady, and the hand as Thierry pondered whether to call, under the watchful and apparently evil eye of the dealer.

Crazy Rich Gambling Hungarian News Now.

A couple of players limp over on table Tyler. The small blind makes up and then the big blind moves all-in for about 22k or so, both limpers fold and then the small blind asks how much it is as a faint air of bemusement takes over the table. The small blind makes the call for about half his stack with......

Kd 4d

The big blind, a dutch player I think turns over Ac Qc, says, "Are you crazy? How can you call there with King-Four?" It's as if he knows the inevitable is coming. And true enough the K-4 makes two pair by the river, and the small blind who the Hungarian updating team inform us, is Gyoergy Moger, takes down the 40k pot.

Richard (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) Ashby (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=367) is OUT. All in with Qh Qs versus Roman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=728) Yitzhaki (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=728)'s Tc 9c. The board coming J-6-2-Q-K. Ouch.

Meanwhile, Gunnar (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=563) Rabe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=563), who made the final in Dortmund, is amongst the chip leaders with around 160k.

Players are now on a 10-minute break. 46 or 47 left in, I think.

Meanwhile a bunch of stuff happened before the break.

Raul Lleida lost most of his chips to Gunnar Rabe in a ma-hoosive hand. Four spades on the board, including the Ace, and Rabe moves all in on the river. Lleida instacalls, but when Gunnar shows the Ks he casts his hand from him, and makes a sound like he's dying. Head in hands, he's down to about 20k.

Thor Hansen raises preflop, and a gent in a VC Poker shirt and granny glasses goes all in for about 12k. He finds a caller in Johann Fest, although Thor folds. Johann Fest shows 8h 8s and VC Granny shows Ac Qc. The board comes down Qs 2s 6d 5d Jc and Fest is not in the party spirit any more.

Also Sick Outdraw news from Table Yitzhaki.

All in preflop, Roman's Kc Kd from the small blind was looking pretty good next to his unnamed big blind opponent's  Aspades 9d.

But oh that cruel and frankly bizarre board -

2d 4c Js 3h 5s

And Roman looks bewildered and amused as he passes the chips over to his very, very lucky neighbour.

And more Suckout News from the same table. Next hand, Philip Yeh raises to 4,500 from the button, and Thierry Van Der Berg moves in for another 16,200. Yeh calls.

Yeh -  Aspades Ts

Van Der Berg - er, Kd 2d

Board - Kh 5d Jh Jc Js

Not quite as sucky outy as the previous suckout, but nasty nonetheless. As I moved away from the table, I just caught the phrase "Suckout King".

More Outsucking from the Table of Suck. This is impressive.

With about 20k in the pot preflop, the flop comes down Ac 6c 6d. Michael Durrer bets from the button. Philip (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) Yeh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) raises, and Roman (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=728) Yitzhaki (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=728) folds. Durrer calls.

Turn - 5c

Yeh bets 16k - that's a big ol' chunk of his stack - it leaves him only with 100s. It's a big pile of 100s, but 100s nonetheless. Michael Durrer spends an AGE threading his chips. By this point a big crowd has formed. And then he goes all in! And Yeh calls!

Yeh - 6s Td

Durrer - Ad Th

Oh happy Philip (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) Yeh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706)!

Now concentrate! This is the sucky bit.

River -  Aspades

And Philip (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) Yeh (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=706) is surely going to be next to go - the suckout's left him with less than 10k.

Thierry (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1133) Van Der Berg (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=1133), on the same table, mutters, "Das ist sicken."

Das ist sicken indeed.

Chistophe Defforey is confused and confusing.

On a Ahrt 9d Td 8c board he moves all-in before the river card is dealt, which leaves Age Spets scratching his head in wonder.

Spets, "All I can beat is a bluff, King Queen of Diamonds, King Jack of Diamonds..."

Christophe, "I'm trying to confuse you, I want you to call."

Spets folds after he sees the 4s river.

He's on about 60 or 70k, perfectly adequate.

Actually I saw a fun hand he was in. Not sure exactly what happened, but Julian in some wise raised somewhere along the line preflop, and he ended up with a gentleman (sporting incredibly annoying flashing lighty uppy eyewear that should be banned) all in with A-9, and Julian holding Jacks. Julian flopped a full house and Mr Irritating Eyewear wandered off, eyewear for the moment removed in mourning. "Wish I hadn't raised now," said Mr Thew as the the flop came down.

As you can see, he's in high spirits.

Phillip Yeh, did, as predicted, go out shortly afterwards and was followed by Sigi Stockinger in 41st place finishing play for the day.

On the last hand of the day:

Hedvad Khan raises and Thewy calls in the big blind.

Flop:

Ad Kh Th

Both players check.

Turn:

2h

Julian bets out 7k and Khan calls.

River:

4d

Julian bets 10k and Khan calls again but mucks when he sees the skanky 5s 3s that Julian had been playing. Khan claims Jacks.

Thewy -- 114.7k
Matt Tyler -- 46k

Other chip counts to come later.

Tomorrow play restarts at 3pm, that's 2pm GMT.

We'll see you there, for now...
