Title: Re: Overbet Post by: Flea on October 17, 2007, 12:21:03 AM I think that's a quality pass - very doubtful he called you pre-flop with 45 so he's either on an over-pair, trips or aggressively chasing a flush.
Given the betting I'd suggest he doesn't want you to see another card in case you hit so I'd suggest he's hit trip 2's or 3's. If he has bluffed you off it with an over-pair less than kings or a flush draw then well-played him, but you can find a better time/better position to make some money. Title: Re: Overbet Post by: GrannyDee on October 17, 2007, 12:19:31 PM Hate these situations. Obv a way infront way behind scenerio. I'm gonna agree with Flea in thinking this is a good pass. I don't want to play a huge pot with only a pair and in my limited cash game experience your facing a set most of the time.
I'd imagine your opponent would be putting you on a big overpair given the way the hand has played out so far and if he was half-sensible then he wouldn't be betting like this with a hand your beating. Title: Re: Overbet Post by: M3boy on October 17, 2007, 12:26:00 PM Agreed
Good pass in my opinion. One which alot of cash players cannot make. Yes there will be times when you are ahead here, but nowhere as near as you are behind. ;hattip; Title: Re: Overbet Post by: temp0r on October 17, 2007, 12:34:42 PM yeah probably flopped a set of sixes and figures you'd call with an overpair on that board taking him for a big draw. if he was solid that is. insta-call a maniac here who thinks theyre bluffing you off AK.
Title: Re: Overbet Post by: TightEnd on October 17, 2007, 12:37:39 PM the most difficult spot in NL Cash this situation
More often than not you are behind to a solid type here Title: Re: Overbet Post by: jezza777 on October 17, 2007, 12:40:32 PM I reraise the flop and pass to a push. As played I am a caller...
Title: Re: Overbet Post by: Bongo on October 17, 2007, 12:43:40 PM What would you do if they called the flop?
Title: Re: Overbet Post by: jezza777 on October 17, 2007, 12:46:14 PM If called I am fairly sure my hand is trash and close down.
Title: Re: Overbet Post by: Longy on October 17, 2007, 12:48:16 PM I reraise the flop and pass to a push. As played I am a caller... I tend to agree with this line as it define our hand more and certainly is a less varience play. As played you have induced him to stack a smaller overpair,a7, random bluff etc and therefore have to call imo, its not an easy spot and sometime you are going to be drawing pretty thin here. Also this villan is not solid 40/0 even though its only 44 hands indicates he is a donk. Title: Re: Overbet Post by: UpTheMariners on October 17, 2007, 02:07:38 PM my concern is that fact hes playing 40% of hands and that i may of gave him too much respect.
Title: Re: Overbet Post by: masterjackblack on October 17, 2007, 04:14:00 PM I agree that not raising on the flop posed you this problem. The chances of a set depend on his tendencies to limp with small pairs. Most players at $3/6NL 5 handed would be open raising with any pair. I think you can pretty much dismiss 8,8-Q,Q as possible holdings. He could have 6,7 for 2 pair or 5,6 for a reasonable semi bluff. It could also be a total air shot Brad Booth special, with him putting you on exactly what you have and knows you are good enough to pass. All depends on how you view the overbet from such a player, is he the kamikaze with no helmet type. I regularly make overbets when I hit and think my opponent cannot get away from a big pair. Having said all that I would find it hard to call in your spot and wait for a better opportunity against someone making such huge overlays.
