Welcome back to the Vic for Day 3.

The tournament is getting very excited now as we approach the final stages. With Snoopy and Ian Cox still there and playing well, there is lots of potential for a blonde winner here.

But there are a host of excellent players still competing for the title and the portents for a game of great poker are strong.

Jen has already rushed to the card room, so I'll be joining her now to witness the early fun and games. Good luck to the players, we're off!

One of the last three tables in the bag-opening stages... play has started and it's the slowest action seen yet in this tournament, which has played at breakneck speed until the last hour of last night, when everyone's aggression/self-destruction reservoirs ran dry and nothing happened.

The blinds are currently nice and chunky and attractive to players sitting in late positions at 2.5k 5k with a running 400 ante.

Richie has had an early set back unfortunately, when his raise in late position was repopped by the shortish stacked Adam Heller. Richie was happy to go with JJ, but found Adam holding the dominating KK.

The subsequent board didn't contain any pitfalls for Adam and he has doubled to circa 120k whilst Richie has had his stack halved and is now less comfortable with 65k or so.

Bad news has also filtered through to the press room as Michael Bale has reportedly doubled up through Ian Cox, flipping his little pocket ducks against Ian's impressive looking but unltimately worthless AQd. Not one to stay down for too long though, Ian has now doubled through Owen Craig in a QQ v AK coup. Back in the hunt straight away.

Snoopy has been quiet so far but he is poised like a coiled spring, ready to pounce at any moment. Seriously.

Brian Gilbert doubles up...

With the blinds at 2,500/5,000 ante 400, Simon Eastwood limped on the button, small blind Gilbert made it up, and then big blind Martin Bader raised 30,000.  A dwell-pass from the button, but Gilbert made the call pretty fast.
Flop:  Ad Qc 3c  Gilbert, who'd dwindled to what looked like about 80k left, shoved immediately, and was called almost as fast.

No help with the raggy turn and river and a grimacing Bader paid off the double up.

Richie Allen is OUT in 27th place - after dropping to a danger stack straight away, his final confrontation saw his A-J taken on by the winning 5-5 of Charles Denton.

Bambos is OUT in 26th place - no idea what happened to him.

An interesting hand was just played between Kourosh Nikkhahe and Leo Kam...

Kourosh raised to 20k from UTG and Leo re-raised from middle position to 50k...

Amazingly Davood Mehrmand in the BB thought a while and asked a few questions of Lam as if he was considering playing. Ultimately though, he passed...

Back to Kouresh and.....he FLAT CALLED, leaving roughly 80k back...

FLOP: 9h Jc Tc

Kouresh immediately moved ALLIN.

Lam now began a long period of contemplation and thought. Seconds, minutes, hours passed. Beards grew, epochs came and went and finally , as we were into our third ice age, Lam decided to fold  and Kouresh showed a T.

He then began berating Davood for getting involved in his  pot and they had a little squabble but nothing more than a few handbags. The fisticuffs come later...

Snoopy has just won a pot - and its a cracker. Johnathan Martin raised to 18k in early position and snoopy pushed, with a stack that must have been in the region of 60k....Johnathan commented to Snoopy "You know I haven't played a pot all day?" but Snoopy is pretty good at just blanking out opponents when they try and crack him - he would make an excellent spy - and sat there impassively until Martin eventually folded. Snoopy couldn't resist flipping over 89, the showoff. Well done Beagle, good work.

Here's Nick Gibson, cheerfully restacking his chip triangle.  Jon Raab caught me with the camera and asked me who I thought would make Day Four and I said Priyan because he played very well yesterday and I was facing him at the time, but I would like to pick Gibson too (he has more chips and always looks like he's laughing about something - possibly one of those whose ipod isn't just music and plays Bill Hicks, perhaps?)

Adam Heller, Jamil Ogunmakinwa and Priyan De Mel have just collided in strange fashion..

Jamil has plenty of chips and opened the betting with a 24k raise from early position. Priyan flat called the raise and Adam Heller announced "ALLIN" for an additional 41k.

Jamil made the call and Priyan thought about it for ages, making comments about value...pot odds....and smiling a lot before throwing his 7s 7h away.

He let out an anguished cry though as Jamil flipped Ad 8d and Adam showed 8c 5c (!) for a somewhat strange squeeze play, that had no hope of getting a fold given his stack.

"Fortune favours the brave" as the saying goes (or is this a "random fluctuation of dumb luck" -Bill Fillmaff) and the board came Ts Jc 4s 9c 2c to give Adam a flush, a double up, a big grin and assorted confused stares from the watching crowd. He was very pleased with himself and Mark Banin observed, "I knew you couldnt have been making a move because you didn't have enough chips, but then you showed 8 5 suited!"

Snoopy's stack is getting chunks ripped out of it by the blinds and antes and his stack had dwindled down to just over 50k. With blinds at 3k 6k with a running 500 ante that won't last long without some help.

I joined his table as the action reached Snoopy on the button of an unopened pot. He moved his stack into the middle. After not too much thinking both blinds passed and Snoopy quietly stacked his chips before silently taking my notepad off me and writing 3-2o on the pad, the scalleywag.

Andrew Cruickshank has just been in a crucial pot with Leo Kam. The two players saw a raised pot, Andrew holding 99 decided to commit himself on a board of 4c 5s Jh with just the one overcard to his pair. Unfortunately for him Kam held JQ for top pair, which once all the chips were thrown into the pot and the dust had settled, held to reward Kam with a very useful pot and send Andrew to the rail.

Thus...

Andrew Cruickshank is OUT, eliminated in 21st place, winning £3,030

It was passed to his small blind and with a smallish stack of 50k ish, he shoved allin. Having successfully stolen, re-stolen and shoved his way to just under 100k, on which he's rested gently all day, Snoops finally got caught, shoving in early position with 5c 6c and finding Cox in the big blind with Ahrt Kh.  It wasn't the worst situation in the world, but nothing about it changed, including the fact that Snoops was behind, and the beagle is on the rail.

at 4k 8k with a 500 ante, there is a juicy 17k in every pot before a single card has been dealt, pillaging is starting to become a serious business.

Prian De Mel raises in early position and it's passed round to the big blind, G Ringe. He dwells a while before Priam De Mel calls the clock on him.

"You have one minute" announces the Tournament Director, which causes a reaction from John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=215) Kabbaj (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=215).

"You can't call the clock if you are in the hand, don't you know the rules..." John grumbles somewhat strangely, since I've never come across that rule and judging from the confused expressions surrounding the table, not many people have. A bit of debate occurs about when it's appropriate to call the clock. Meanwhile Prian is just sitting there, wondering whether his raise will get through or not.

"I hope you are still counting that minute!" says Priam wearing a wide grin, and ultimately Ringe, pronounced to rhyme with singe (and possibly other words) passes....

....In the next few hands there is an early position raise by Brian Gilbert to 30k, which John (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=215) Kabbaj (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=215) calls holding position, and everyone else gets out of the way.

The flop comes Kd 2c 2, which both players check. The 6c turn is checked by Brian and John immediately bets 40k. Brian calls after a short pause.

Brian checks, then John checks. Brian shows AJ for top pair on the river and John lets out an anguished cry as he shows his rivered K. You can almost see the steam coming out of his ears at this point....

Well spotted Llevan - John Kabbaj has made a pretty impressive comeback since those Aces yesterday started him out on Recovery Road - and he just eliminated Jamil Ogunmakinwa in 18th place (£3,460) - as you can see from this photo of him next to a newly empty seat...

Kabbaj raised under the gun, and Ogunmakinwa, having dropped right down from his once second-place stack to just under 100k, moved in on the big blind.  It all happened so fast - they were suddenly on their backs - Kabbaj's Jc Qh playing Ogunmakinwa's Ad Kc.

Turn: 5h
River: Jh  And that couldn't have been a more disappointing card for the young player whose shot at the GUKPT title ends with two tables left.

Martin Bader is OUT in 17th place, winning £3,460 for his troubles.

Ian Cox was the man who did the damage, his JcJs taking on Martin's Ac9h preflop and a 2-3-7-Q-4 board changed nothing. With blinds this big it's hard to get away from A9 with Bader's chips, so I will refrain from making any Daft Bader jokes, and simply leave it at gg wp.

Robert Boon and Kourosh have just crossed swords in a big pot.

At 5k 10k with a 500 ante now, Koresh made a LARGE raise to 60k off a stack in the region of 170-200k, Martin Boon behind reraised allin.

Kourosh said "Ok, let's gamble" assuming his 9-9 would be in a race. However, if he had watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels he would have realised that "assumption is the mother of all f*** ups," as Boon flipped over K-K.

Kourosh was left looking like a man badly in need of police assistance as he quietly repeated 9-9-9, but no 9s were forthcoming and Kourosh departed, meaning....

Kourosh Nikkhahe is OUT in 16th place, winning £3,460.

With the blinds at 5k/10k/ante 500 Martin pushed preflop for around 160k after there had been a raise from Robert Boon.  The chips were counted out, laid in a row and left for Boon to contemplate.  He found it within himself to call the extra c.80k with 4h 4c, and found Martin holding Aspades Td.

*Aside*

The TV stage is currently being assembled downstairs and a live feed will eventually be connected to our press room, half a mile away up some stairs.  This is great news for tomorrow's final, but they seem to have a feed running from it right now.  This leads to the construction of the table all being broadcast directly to where we're trying to work (albeit without sound).  It was brought to my attention by someone shouting, "There's the money shot!" that for the last 15 minutes there has been a continual feed of this guy's arse - right dead centre of the TV and in focus - as he tinkers with the table.  It couldn't be set up better if they meant to do that.  Which I am sure they didn't, and I will protect the identity of the constructor for everyone's sake.

There seems to be a 30 minute break starting right now, during which I am sure the argument over wanting to break for longer and watch the rugby will continue.  Updates will resume after the argument is lost and they restart in half an hour.  I think a reportable hand might have just been witnessed by JungleCat, so I will leave you in anticipation of this for a few minutes as he struggles back upstairs.

Ive watched Prian do well all year. it wouldnt surprise me if he made one of the top spots (bok) Likewise Ian Cox is making  a lot of finals this year.
Its nice to see old time Vc pros Adam Heller & Simon Eastwood still in. they are both touch steady cash pros ... interesting to see how they cope with short handed running antes just b4 the final. Brian
shame to see Jonathon just go out. he was ever so apologetic for knocking me out, even though he had the best hand! Seems like a nice bloke.

Simon Eastwood has walked into a spot of bother.

After the aggressive Carl Buskirk limped from the small blind onto Simon's big blind, Simon shoved and Carl INSTA-CALLED.

Simon was probably fairly pleased about this as he held Q-Q, till Carl turned over a sneakily played A-A. In truth blind on blind, this was lilkely to end up in a preflop war that was inevitable however it was played.

A harmless board did nothing to alter the status quo, Carl remained in front and had Simon comfortably outchipped meaning....

Simon Eastwood is OUT, eliminated in 14th place, for £3,460.

Both players saw a raised pot of 4s Tc 9s. Kam bet 30k and was called. The turn was a Q. Kam again bet, this time 45k i think and was called. On the river Kam checked and Buskirk set him in which Kam insta-called.

Showing QT for top 2 pair Kam took the pot down whilst Buskirk instantly mucked...

Gerald Ringe doubles up - and what a catch...

With no action before him, Ringe shoved for 130k preflop.  Neighbour Priyan on the button really gave a dwell worthy of his opponent, before passing with a show of reluctance.  Pass to big blind Patrik Selin, who instacalls, however.

Leo Kam, by the way, is raising on his table about as often as Nick Gibson is raising on his.  He's got away with three sets of 6k/12k blinds in the last 20 minutes, only pushed off a preflop raise once by Michael Bale moving in over the top.  The guy seems a pretty tidy player and has gradually built chips until it all went a bit wrong earlier, and he started to drift back down - but not for long.  If he makes the final table, it will be with a good stack and a pretty formidable, if quiet, table presence.

As Jen related Leo Kam has been busier than a beaver raising from late position and has just been involved in another big pot. Raising from the cut-off to 45k or so, Charles Denton went over the top for another 120k on top. The blinds of Ian (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) Cox (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=171) and Michael Bale paused for a while before laying down and Kam eventually made the call.

Kam showed 8c 8s, Denton Ad Qd.

The first two contrasting cards of the flop sorted things out, the Ac falling to give Denton the advantage before the 8h  fell to virtually sew it up for Lam. Three more largely irrelevant cards later and Lam had bolstered his stack whilst meanwhile....

Gerald Ringe has just been involved in a big pot. Holding JJ and no doubt facing another of Kam's preflop raises, Ringe was happy to move his chips in preflop with Jd Jc.

Kam made the call with Q9 and one Q-3-T-2-9 flop later Kam's ever swelling stack was even larger and ....

Gerald Ringe is OUT, eliminated in 11th place for £4,330

And we have our unlucky final table bubble finisher.

Once Priyan found AK and Nick Gibson found AA, the large blinds meant this woud inevitably mean the chips all went into the middle preflop and indeed that is what happened.

There were no fluked straights, flushes or trippy kings to surprise anyone, meaning...
