Unlucky Russ, great effort man. Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: henrik777 on April 27, 2005, 12:31:54 AM Russ looks like he wants to punch something as he did deduce that Sonnert had a hand then ignored his feeling when hitting his 6.
Still played well though until then. Sandy Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: Ironside on April 27, 2005, 12:39:27 AM Our buddy Ariston is on TV NOW, heads up. "Slaughter at the sandcastle" "Peril at the pleasure beach" or could it be .... "Blackpool Blitzed" "Donkeys defeated" "Blackpool Rocked" isnt it amazing that week in week out tournaments and general games are played for silly amounts of money, but bragging rights and fear of letting your mates down puts you under so much more pressure lol.... I am really looking forward to hearing about the casino challenge for a long time to come lol Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: Ironside on April 27, 2005, 01:19:41 AM will there be live tourny reports on blonde from the casino challenge?

Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: Sheriff Fatman on April 27, 2005, 11:58:37 AM Unlucky Ariston - last hand apart you didn't put a foot wrong. The last one was just one of those situations where that evil part of the brain kicks in and overrides the initial (usually very accurate, as in this case) instinct.
On a more general note, last night's show was the first one of the BPO programmes that I've watched for any length of time and I must say that the structure does not make for good live TV. The blinds escalate so quickly relative to the stacks that there's not much opportunity for any post flop play. I'm generally not a fan of the 6 player, camera under glass, show that the UK seems so fond of (nothing since has come close to matching the LNP format from which it's derived). The live element last night added a bit of intrigue for me but, in the end, I was watching it more for the 'train wreck' factor than anything else. It quickly became clear that it would be a pre-flop all-in fest and luck, rather than skill, would be the determining factor. I suppose this is the downside of ensuring a live tournament ends within 4.5 hours for TV purposes. However, for me, its not a format I particularly want to see the top players playing as I can watch it everyday in the online SnG's. Nice idea - just doesn't really work so well in practice. Sheriff Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: TightEnd on April 27, 2005, 01:57:13 PM Agreed Sheriff...I recently watched the DVD of last year's Victor Poker cup won by Demetriou...this final table lasted over 9 hours with a structure to die for...whilst I accept that's not feasible for Live TV I would like a happy medium to be struck...at times last night the first person to "push" with anything ( eg 9 4 offsuit ) was picking up uncontested pot after uncontested pot and we were all waiting for two big hands to clash.
Someone come up with a TV structure that doesn't come down to a crapshoot... Title: Re: Ariston on TV Post by: Ironside on April 27, 2005, 02:04:32 PM thats impossible because normally you would expect about 15-20 hands an hour in a live B&M tourny
but on tv your struggling to get in 10 hands an hour untill it becomes push and fold because the ad breaks the director holding up play so he can get a shot of the table etc etc then you get the farce (last night) where there is 3 players left one with 3 chips and the TD gets a chip count while we wait 5 minutes watching the chip count then they go straight to an ad break why not take the break and do the count at same time basica flaws need addressing then they can work out things like a decent structure |
